Ive been reading every thread about how people have been mistakely banned. People getting scammed, and other horrible stuff like that. I mean not by being a victim in game. But they can just hack into your account at any second. Ive been worried to post for a while about this but now its sad that people are victims all the time. Especially if you have inferno, green flips, stitch hat, or any item you love. It could be taken away from you at any second. Now im worried about people trying to hack into my account.


Are there anyways to stop people from hacking? Or is there no way?


ahh... Were all gonna die. Well, im just worried i guess about my stuff. Any day it could be taken anyway.

So is there really anyway to stop it, other then banning them?

Hacking is very difficult if you use a password containing both letters and numbers. Don't use words! Don't make it easy and don't let anyone else have access to it. Change it every couple of months and you should never have a problem with someone stealing your account. This holds true for any place you use a password.

I've seen several people who claimed to be banned for no reason in VMK before and even after the ban and I think they should be banned again. I think it would be a VERY rare possibility to be banned for no reason at all. They have said do not talk about the weather or you will be banned, and I'm happy they seem to be following up on it. Although it is pretty harsh from examples I've heard, they have warned us.

I really think they should have a part on the homepage with a list of things that WILL get you banned. Kind of like the safety corner but completely focused on what will get you banned. If they put it on the homepage more people are likely to read it than the VMK Values. You could probably walk around asking people if they have read them, I doubt you'd get many honest yes's.

About "hacking," it just annoys me how people misuse the word. What most people are talking about is simple password guessing, or just logging into your account. Hacking is actually getting into the database that would hold all the passwords. Actual hacking would probably be VERY difficult.

Ahh.. Were all gonna die i think someone would be a great motivational speaker... but hacking is very difficult and here's a tip if u ever have your password and or username saved in a website make sure to delete them or else someone could just turn on the computer and walk around as you...

Make your password super hard if you don't want to be hacked. You can always change it if you feel unsafe.

A word about hacking.....LEGAL DISCLAIMER: (please bear in mind that any information and/or stories are purely hypothetical and do not in any way coorelate to any action taken by me or my associates)

1 Hacking into the VMK database is possible but not easy and it is very traceable. However any passwords stored in the data base are encrypted so it is almost worthless to try and can passwords that way. Not to mention that by being very traceable you ar elikely to face federal jail time.

2 Implanting trojans and spyware that can send your passwords to someelses pc are currently being used but most spy ware detection programs and anti viruses catch these very easily. It is VERY important that you have these programs and update them regularly.

3 It s also important that if you are not the only one using your computer or id you use a public computer, NEVER allow any browser to remember your password automatically. In fact I am the only one that uses my c and i still dont allow the browers to remember my password.

4 With that warning issued above, I can also say that most "hackers" that use programs such as password stealers are after much bigger prizes than anything that VMK has to offer. I know those Minnie Ears and green Flips may mean the world to you, but most people that steal passwords are after passwords from games with a much higher player count and heftier rewards (ie..world of warcaft, witchcraft, and games like that )

So yes while hacking and password stealing is technically possible on VMK, as long as you practice good computer security your risks are extremely low.


I am convinced that close to 100% of people that claim to have been hacked, have in fact given their password to someone or had windows or firefox use the "remember password" option on a public computer or have a password that is very easy for their friends to guess

those are game specific hacks, not like hacking into your computer

I amnot familiar with that game but from what i could gather from your post, It sounds like someone has altered teh game code and is usinga scripting type program....definatley not a system wide hack ..just a script kiddie

I know there are programs out there that with a fast enough server you could get anybody's account... thats how mine was stolen, becuase at our school computers they use a program like that for the admins to find out our passwords if we change them... my friend just knew my username for vmk and somehow got a program like that and got in and stole all my stuff...

Chances are your school uses a keylogger program. I know of several districts thatdo use those to keep track of where the students go and what they are searching for. If your friend has one of these of these programs, then he still had to put it on your computer. Again a good trojan and spyware detector would have caught and deleted a keylogger

if its not a keylogger you just had never logged out and someone just took over right where you left off. Fast computers cant just get your passwords

it isnt a keylogger - it is in violation of Federal law to put a keylogger on a computer which is used by others. The person who rolled a keylogger out onto a public computer would be looking at 5 years in prison for each computer he tracked.

So, regardless of what any IT person might say, there are no keyloggers on school computers. More than likely it is:

A: Someone guessed your password
B: you told someone your password
C: you saved your password on the computer
D: you wrote your password down and someone saw it

There are still several forums for instance that default at save password enabled.

thats very likely, aengus, adults fall prey to that too.

But kids are very very liekly to share passwords. My 10 year old started playing runescape - he came running home one day and says to me "we need to change my password, I gave it to "Bob" so he could get me all kinds of stuff.

So I went to logon to change the password and it had already been changed and someone was logged onto the account already! It took the "friend" less than 10 minutes to logon and steal his stuff.

Then, 3 days later, it happened AGAIN, same "friend" - needless to say, he is no longer even allowed to KNOW his own password (and I dont let him play anyway any more)
