Our list of movies for Oliver's proper education!

Wish I could DOUBLE like this.....the Jerk and Edward Scissorhands are 2 of my all time favorite movies, and I quote them all the time (especially the Jerk!)

I'm sure Oliver has seen Wizard of Oz, right? And if nobody has suggested Gone with the Wind, I'd definitely suggest that, as well as Dr. Zhivago, the Music Man, Miracele on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life, and Polar Express. And for something totally different, but telling of the generation, Saturday Night Fever and even Grease (GREAT soundtrack!!) I need to go back through everybody's greats lists, and watch a lot of these myself!! (Or re-watch, since I'm sure I've seen some of them, and have forgotten). I'm sure I'm forgetting a SLEW of them, but these are the ones I thought of quickly.

Casablanca, perhaps?

I am sure I am going to get flack for this, but I never really liked Casablanca. Always found Humphrey Bogart to be very stiff and just hard to get into it

On the flip side, the movie that started this off, Breakfast at Tiffany's I absolutely love

I'll add Roman Holiday to the Breakfast at Tiffany's list... the movie for which she won her Oscar

I could throw in two of my faves not yet noted (Saturday Night Fever and the Exorcist), but DH says nobody should have to be subjected to those (for different reasons, obviously).

I don't think people are getting quite what Pete intended. It's not just famous movie quotes, but movie quotes that are commonly said by gay men. Here are some that need to be added.

Mommie Dearest
Dr Zhivago
Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?
The Women (1939 original)
Valley of the Dolls
Lollita
Barbarella
Pink Flamingos
Hairspray
Nine to Five

Someone mentioned Rocky Horror Picture show, but I actually bet Oliver has seen that.

I'm with Ryan (@rteetz ) on this one... I've seen about 4 of the movies referenced here...

First of all, stop trying to make 'Fetch' happen

Second, if we are going with quotable movies, need to include things like Anchor Man, Wayne's World, and Animal House

Haha that's Mean Girls with fetch. But lets add all those on too. Have to know the pop culture references.
Yeah it's mean girls and id be surprised if Ollie hadn't seen it

I suggest

The Philadelphia Story or anything with Cary Grant. Period. Arsenic and Old lace is also great

There are two versions of Auntie Mame. Let's have the one with Rosalind Russell.

I think my excuse is that I'm just a young guy that hasn't had the chance to see many of these movies yet. I do have plenty of time in my life to change that. I'm up to around 4-5 movies listed on this thread that I've seen. I know many of the titles just haven't had the chance to watch them.

I actually mentioned Saturday Night Fever (and Grease), so tell your hubby somebody ELSE thinks like YOU!! :)

Don't worry - I am far from young, OR a guy, and I either haven't seen a lot of these, or don't remember if I did or not. So you have plenty of (questionably good) company! :rotfl2:

Anything by John Hughes, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, National Lampoon's Vacation........

Since he's hanging with Ryno who's into Pop Culture then: The Warriors, Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon, The Last Starfighter, Any Bruce Lee movie, The Crow, American Pie, Beetlejuice and that's all I can think of for the moment.
