Our "last night of the trip" dinner at Jiko

Mmmmm Jiko, I can't wait to get back there in December. Thanks for the review UncleR

Agree 100% on the flatbread, but I like the Kalamata Olive best.

The wine is not pretenious, well priced, and matched expertly to the food selection. I've yet to finish "the osso bucco", since it's soooo rich, but I'm sure I'll try again.

The tofu and grains veggie dish is to die for. Just the right amount of spice.

More than anything else at Jiko, I love the intimacy. Even on the most crowded night, I feel like I'm eating alone...

Steve

I am a foodie.

Paradox: Jiko is my favorite restaurant, but I like the food at the CG better?

I didn't know that so many of the servers are also sommeliers!

What a nice tradition! Jiko was the first meal of this trip for us and was outstanding.

I'm looking forward to V&A!

Pracperfpatricia:
They have a cheese selection (Priced at $14) consisting of five different cheese'ss (???) OK-- 5 different kinds of cheese :teeth:
On the menu they had an "Expedition Everest" sundae that looked good--

As for the wine, I agree that it is probably the best restaurant on property for wine. And I know Chef Anette is frequently in South Africa, checking out vinyards and sources of "supply".
I do have a copy of the current wine list in case anyone wants one--PM me and I'll snail-mail a copy.
Keep in mind tho that it is printed on paper and changes frequently.

As an aside, they also have a "reserve" by the bottle list. One wine is described as having an "ultra-creamy texture, with probing pickled lime zest clarity"
Another had "licorice and iron" characteristics.
Fine wine for you!!!

Count me in as a MAJOR Jiko Fan :teeth: Not only do we make dinner there a tradition but on one trip (a long weekend) we ate there EVERY night :rolleyes1 It was crazy - and YUMMY!
The food is delicious but if you go there a lot you'll find that what really makes it special is the people who work there. There are exceptions of course, but the people I've gotten to know are wonderful and love what they do. From servers to managers to Chef Anette herself. They're very special and do an incredible job night after night.
Have any of you gone to the Wine Dinners which Jiko puts on the first Thursday of every month? They are fantastic

I've been to three of those wine dinners and have another one booked for July 6...they're great.
