We stayed in Kingsland, Ga at the Country Inn and Suites on our way down to WDW. Chose this hotel based on advice from this board. It was a really nice hotel. Very clean and spacious room. Refrigerator in room. Nice little indoor pool. Paid $67 night AAA rate. This included breakfast. There are many restaurants within walking distance. Guests at the hotel get a 10% discount at the 2 restaurants next door. One is an Applebees. The other is a local Italian place...I can't remember the name. We ate at the Italian place and it was very good. Kingsland exit seemed to have many new hotels and restaurants and the gas was cheap.
The exits on the north side of Jacksonville looked a little yucky. I'd say stay in Kingsland, or go south of Jacksonville.
We stayed at a COuntry Inn and Suites in Beckley, WV on our way home. It was ok, but not as nice as the other place. Of course, we were coming home from staying at POR at WDW, so nothing was going to look that great. The pool here was large but the water was COLD! Breakfast was ok. Several places to eat in the area. Paid $78/night. There was a new Microtel behind our hotel. I think I'd stay there if I had it to do over.
Had a great meal at Sonny BBQ in North Carolina.
We drove from CLeveland area and we were surprised at how well the drive went. 70mph almost the whole way. Very little road construction. Nice rest stops. Pretty scenery. We'll do it again.
