Our honeymoon trip to Orlando! (Updated 7/10, Day 14&15; going home...THE END!)

what a great day at animal kingdom you had! do you remember what day of the week it was? we went on sunday (4/27) and it was SO CROWDED!

There weren't any castmembers in the picture area, so I took a picture of our picture. I would never do that if anyone was around though... I'm too scared they get mad at me!

they don't get mad at you. i've even had cast members point out my picture for me knowing that i was taking a picture with my camera! the worst thing anyone has ever said to me was one time at splash mountain and the CM said, "you can take the picture but usually they don't turn out very good." little did she know i'm an expert redneck photographer! :rotfl:

We didn't see as many animals as this morning, but we did see the lions much closer than this morning!

great picture! :thumbsup2

glad you enjoyed boma. i'm eating there in september and i'm kinda scared i won't like it, but everyone seems to love it.

Let me think... it was day 4, so it must have been a tuesday. Yes, it was, because a castmember asked me when we got married and I replied with: Exactly a week ago! And it really wasn't crowded!

Hm, I guess I just feel bad for them if I took the picture while they were standing there to sell theirs.... ;)

great picture! :thumbsup2

Thanks! :)

We really enjoyed it. I was kind of scared Gerbert (which is a picky eater!) wouldn't eat anything when I heard what they had, but although he wasn't very adventurous with his meal, he still ate two full plates! And the ambience is just great! :thumbsup2

:lovestruc Congratulations:lovestruc on your marriage!

Love you trip report so far!! Can't wait for more.:thumbsup2 Your pics are amazing, do you have a really good camera??

I noticed that your signature still says DBF, you need to change it to DH, your a married woman now!! :goodvibes Congratulations again!

Congrats! We had our honeymoon in Disneyworld and LOVED it! Now were about to go on the Mexican Riviera Disney Cruise with our three daughters (shortly before celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary). Face it, Disney marriages are built to last!

I have to admit I was kind of trying if someone would miss it if I didn't do any updates anymore... I had the idea that nobody (except for you, punkin! :thumbsup2) was reading my TR and although I like writing it, I must say I like it a lot more when I get reactions...

But I guess you still want to read the rest of the trip, so I'll try to get an update ready this weekend :)

I'm reading too! I haven't been here too much lately but really love your report and hope you will continue! :goodvibes

Sounds like a wonderful honeymoon trip so far (aside from the flight delay business but that all seems to have been sorted quickly).

Day 5: Aquatica, Disney Quest & Cirque du Soleil

We got to sleep in a little today, because we were going to a waterpark and they don't open before 10 am.
Around 9.15 we headed to Sizzler to try their breakfast buffet. We liked their buffet very much last year and it didn't dissapoint us this time. We had some eggs, pancakes and lots of fresh fruit. It was a nice change from the free breakfast in our hotel! :thumbsup2

About half an hour later we drove to Aquatica en saw this sign pretty soon:

57aquatica.jpg

There weren't many cars in the parking lot yet and we got to park straight in front of the entrance.
We walked over to customer service to get our tickets, which were included in the Discovery Cove package.

Looking for a locker, we came across the pool where they were feeding the black&white commerson's dolphins. They were also doing some tricks with them. Very cool animals!

58dolfijnen.jpg

59kunstjes.jpg

When we got to the locker rental station, there was already a big line in front of us. Gerbert got in line while I walked around the park to take some pictures. Everything looked brand new, which is not that strange considering the park opened only 2 months ago!

66lazyriver.jpg

When I got back to the lockers, Gerbert had just recieved a key. We put our things in the locker and walked over to the beach, where we dropped our towels on some sunbeds. We put on some sunscreen and had a small conversation with the people next to us, who happened to be Dutch as well.
After that, we started with the slides. First up was Whanau Way, colorful slides with tubes for 2 people. They were fun!

62glijbaan.jpg

After that, we went to Dolphin Plunge, where you slide through the dolphin pool. It was a cool slide, but you can't really see the dolphins.

60onder%20water.jpg

We decided to take it easy and got on the lazy river. This one was nice, but the ones in Disney are much longer.
At the end of the ride, I saw one of the kids I teach. I knew they were in Orlando too, but I never imagined whe should run into eachother. How funny! We talked for a little while and then continued to some other slides.

The Walhalla Wave and HooRoo Run were a lot of fun. They are big family slides. I liked the HooRoo Run best because of all the twists and turns.

We also did the lazy river without the tubes. Everyone was wearing a floating device, so we got one too. But I took it off pretty soon, I had much more fun without that thing!

We took a swim in the Surf Pool and got back to our towels after that, to let our bathing suits dry. We even took a little nap. :rolleyes1
Around 1:30, we decided we were ready to get a bite to eat. We came across Mango Market, but the prices were pretty high and we weren't able to get two small meals and drinks for the $20 I had with me. So, we decided to share and it turned out to be big enough for the two of us.

After lunch, we got our things out of our locker and walked out of the park. We liked the park, but one tip if you decide to go: Wear something on your feet! I didn't and my feet really got burned!

67uitgang.jpg

Back in the hotel we got in the shower and came to the conclusion we really got sunburned! We had some relaxing time after that and went to the Wal*Mart to get some groceries and gifts.
After putting everything on our room, we went to Downtown Disney, where we picked up our tickets for Cirque du Soleil first.

We decided to spent some time in Disney Quest.

68adisneyquest.jpg

We started off with Pirates, which still is very cool. After that, we created our own rollercoaster at Cyberspace Mountain and did lots of games. I even managed to beat Gerbert at a racing game :woohoo:
We also did some bowling games. Gerbert won, but we both got a strike!

68strike1.jpg

69strike2.jpg

Around 6:30, we walked to House of Blues to get a bite to eat. There weren't a lot of people and the service was really fast. We were in and out within 45 minutes. The food was good though, so if you want to eat something good and fast, this is the place to go!

70houseofblues.jpg

We had some time left before our 9:00 Cirque du Soleil show, so we walked over to the other side of Downtown Disney to visit my favorite store in the whole wide world; World of Disney! :cheer2:

72wod.jpg

We bought a couple of things and walked back to the Cirque. We had some icecream at Haagen Dasz on our way, which was pretty good.

We arrived at Cirque du Soleil at 8:30 and got in to find our seats.

71cirque.jpg

Our seats were perfect, second ring in the front. We had an excellent view. I really don't understand why people want to sit way up front... there is so much to see that is higher than the stage... I would get a cramp in my neck!
The show started off with two clowns, who were very amusing.

73clowns.jpg

We really enjoyed this La Nouba show. The performances were excellent! I would recommend it to everyone!

After the show we walked back to our car and were back in our hotel room around 11.00, where we fell asleep pretty quick!

Up next: Universal Studios

Love the update! So nice to read about Aquatica - I've been thinking about taking my daughter there for a day over the summer. The pictres you took look great. How funny that you ran in to someone you knew there! Small World!

LaNouba is something else I would love to do someday.

Sounds like you had a great day!

Marjol... so glad to have run across your trip report! Congratulations on the Wedding - thanks for sharing the pictures - you and your DH looked so happy!! Can't wait to hear more about your honeymoon!

(P.S. - Were you able to complete your U.S. quarter collection while you were here? If you remember me - I sent you a few you were missing at the time - but they have released more now! I also sent the plastic ticket sleeves.)

Anyway... can't wait to read more of your trip details!

Congrats again on being a newlywed!

Melissa

Hi Marjol!
No, you're not writing this for yourself! Don't worry!

You're just writing too fast! :rotfl2:

I've been back for about what? less than 2 weeks now, and it takes time to get back in the routine, plus you know how it's like... a TR to start, including pix to arrange, select, put on a server... and a scrapbook to start, too! Plus accumulated emails to go through, recorded TV shows to watch, etc. ;)
It's taking time!
And then you get back on the DIS and you have those PTRs that all slowly start to turn into TRs and dozens of unread pages have turned up while you were on a trip!

So, here I am, I finally caught up!

So happy that the trip that started so badly turned out so well and that, from what we know, up to now at least, you've had so much fun!!! :thumbsup2

Oh, and I so understand about the Wii! I had been wanting one for as long as they've put it out on the market... but it's always backordered... well I almost bought one while I was at the DTD Virgin store (not even sure they had any to sell, but I saw an advertisement)... and didn't because of luggage restrictions (you'll read all about that in my TR... sooner or, more probably, later:laughing:).
But I was in luck, and destined to get one this month, because when I checked the local gaming store when I got back : they had one!!! :yay: I'm the proud owner of a Wii since last week!!! :woohoo:Weee! (hahaha, too easy.)
I do like it a lot! ::yes::
Sorry for that OT.
:offtopic:

Can't wait for the rest of your TR, and I, too loooove the mexican Donald pic! :lovestruc

No, I didn't get any of the coins I needed on this trip. I still need the 2007 & 2008 ones! :)

Hi Marjol!

Thanks for reading, I'm curious about your trip too! :)

We got a Wii last week too and we love it! I love playing tennis and I'm getting really good at it! :thumbsup2

Aquatica looks really neat, I have been considering adding it into our 2010 plans.

You should, it is a fun park and nice for a change! :)

Enjoying your report. Boy! You sure do pack alot into a day.

Day 6; Universal Studios

We got up at our regular time this morning and after eating a waffle in the hotel, we got in our car around 8.40 to go to Universal Studios, the park we originally had planned for our first day here, but you all know how that went! :rotfl:

Universal isn't as close to our hotel as Disney, but after driving for 20 minutes, we saw this sign:

74universal.jpg

We were directed to the Spider-man parking lot and from there we were at the city walk pretty soon. At the crossing, we followed the people that were going to the Studios. IOA was planned for another day.
We had to get our pre-paid tickets out of the machines, but there was nobody in line, so we got them pretty quick.

With the tickets in hand, we walked into the park. We grabbed a map and instantly walked to the new ride which had just been opened; the Simpsons ride! On our way there, it was so quiet in the park. We loved it! :thumbsup2

75drukhe.jpg

We noticed we were in the Simpsons area pretty soon... loved the Kwik-E-Mart!

76kwikemart.jpg

And yes, there it was! We had to enter through Krusty's mouth.

77simpsons.jpg

This ride only opened about a week or so ago and was still in its testing phase, and that was noticeable! There were only 50 people or so in front of us, but we still had to stand in line for 30 minutes. They really didn't find a high speed loading procedure for this ride...
But it was a lot of fun anyway! A bit rough sometimes, but fun! We were asked to fill out a survey when we exited the ride, so we did. We gave it a 4 out of 5.

After this new experience, it was time to do some familiar rides. We started off with Men in Black, which still is a very cool ride! It is even better when it is a walk-on :worship: It's just too bad Gerbert is so much better at this game than I am....

78MIB.jpg

I had to look for danger when I saw Jaws again...

79jaws.jpg

We did the Jaws boatride too, ofcourse. We were on the good side of the boat this time and saw Jaws up close & personal!

After Jaws, we got to Disaster, which changed his name from Earthquake recently. They improved the ride with some cool movie features in the tram. We liked it a lot better now!
After this tramride, we saw a Starbucks and just had to get a chocolate chip frappuchino!

80starbucks.jpg

It was time for the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue now, a show that we liked last year and we still thought it was very enjoyable.

81beetlejuice.jpg

It was lunchtime and we decided to go to Richter's Burger Company again, because we liked their burgers so much last year! You can throw everything you want on your burger and they aren't as greasy as many others.
It was a mistake to order the double ones though, because we came out stuffed!

After lunch, we walked to the Shrek 4D show and saw that Donkey, Fiona and Shrek were out and there was nobody in line. We chatted about our wedding with Donkey for a while and got our picture taken with all of them. I love the way Donkey looks at me...

82donkeyfiona.jpg

83shrek.jpg

The Shrek show was also on our list and although we've seen it like 5 times now, I still love it!
We walked over to the area where the Blues Brothers would appear in a couple of minutes. Their show was short, but they were really into it!

84bluesbrothers.jpg

After this, we went to the children area because I wanted to meet with the Madagascar characters. On our way there, I took a little drive around Hollywood ::yes::

85hollywood.jpg

We were 15 minutes early for the Madagascar penguins, so we had a drink while we waited. We were second in line for the penguins, that look really cute!

86madagascar.jpg

We saw a piece of a stage show and I got my picture taken with Scooby and Shaggy. Shaggy is trying to look cool... I think.. :confused3

86ascooby.jpg

By now, we did everything we wanted to do and decided to head to the entrance. We did the Jimmy Neutron attraction on our way there and bought a picture they took from us when we entered the park this morning.

It was around 4-ish when we left the park. On our way to the parking lot, we came across a sports cafe with a lot of cars in front of it. Being a big car freak, Gerbert posed with one of those cars.

87auto.jpg

We drove back to the hotel and had a nice and quiet afternoon there. We watched some TV, spent some time on the laptop and had a nice afternoon nap. We also made reservations at the Melting Pot, a restaurant that someone we know recommended.

We drove to Sand Lake Road around 7.40 and arrived just before 8. We got seated instantly and had to make some meny choices. We chose the Big Night Out Menu, with a cheddar cheese fondue as a starter, a nice salad between meals, a coq au vin bouillon as an entree and a milk chocolate with peanut pieces fondue as a dessert.
We really LOVED this meal. It was so good! :thumbsup2

88meltingpot1.jpg

89meltingpot2.jpg

90meltingpot3.jpg

We were really full when we finished our meal. I almost had to eat the dessert by myself, because Gerbert was too stuffed to eat something!
We were back at our hotel around 10.15 and fell asleep pretty soon after that.

Up next: Blizzard Beach & Pirate and Princess Party

great day at universal! i love shrek.....that's the one thing that makes me want to go there sometime soon! of course the harry potter addition will change that within the next few years! i remember that beetlejuice show from back in '92 when i was 15!

i'm so jealous you guys ate at the melting pot. we have one in atlanta and we've never been.....just one of those things on my list to do and just haven't gotten around to it!

Universal looks great! Can't believe how empty it was when you got there. Looks like lots of fun rides. The last time I was there was in 2002 but we only did Barney and some Scooby Doo ride for my daughter who was two at the time. Now that she is in to thrill rides we may have to go back. Your pictures were great!

Melting Pot looks fantastic too. We have one near us and I've never been. I've heard such great things about the place and the pictures you took looked great - the dessert looked really yummy!

Great update!
