I know it's been a while since our trip, but I've been reading other trip reports, and I had the urge to share the details of our trip in late September.
Cast of Characters - Me, DW, and Disney trip planner, age 27
DH, first timer to WDW and patient husband, age 34
Our wedding was in June of 2002, but we decided to take our honeymoon in late September. We had hoped this would spare us from the summer heat, and we were able to save some money by staying during the value season.
I began planning our trip in late March or early April. I had stayed at the WL before and knew my DH would love it. He is an avid outdoorsman, so I knew this was the place for him. At times we joked that we were looking forward to our trip to WDW more than our wedding. I am fortunate to have a few friends with a passion for Disney, and they were great with making PS suggestions and helping me find the best room rates. We were married at a Christmas tree farm on their deck, overlooking a spectacular view. The day was wonderful, and we were now looking forward to our trip.
DH and I weren't crazy about flying, so we decided to drive from PA to Orlando. After much advice and excellent directions from our wedding photographer, we were nearing our departure date.
I am an eighth grade teacher, so it was necessary for me to leave my dear students for an entire week. The night before we were leaving I had to attend a class. On my way home, I got pulled over for speeding. After pleading with the police officer, I still got a $100 ticket. A few less Disney dollars for me.
The day arrived, and my DH and I both went to work knowing we would be leaving around midnight. My DH tried to take a nap when he got home, but it didn't work out too well. Around midnight we got up, packed the Tahoe, and headed out for Orlando. We also kissed out kids (dog Duke and cat Hank) several times before we left.
DH drove for the first six hours since he had a little sleep before we left. I sacked out in the back until we got to NC. We fuled up, and I took over driving. After a bathroom pit stop, and some food at Wendy's, DH was back in the driver's seat. It seemed to take forever to get to Orlando, but we arrived in about 16.5 hours.
We stayed off property for our first night. We stayed at the Country Inn (not sure of the address), and it wasn't bad. The room was entirely too humid when we arrived. DH works on chillers and HVAC, so he told me how such and such was making the room the way it was. I politely nodded, and he did something to fix it. After showering and napping, we headed across the street to Joe's Crab House. We don't have anything like this where we live, but it was a nice chain place with good food. After a trip to the Walgreens next door to buy some things I had forgotten, it was back to our room to rest and get ready for Epcot!
Coming next, part two! DH gets motion sickness and I have a meltdown!
