I just wanted to share what happened to us two weeks ago. Sometimes, it pays to be on Gringotts during a breakdown. It pays off even more to be patient, kind and understanding.
We were at USO for early entry 10/9 and 10/10. Thursday the 9th as soon as we entered the park at 6:55am they told the crowd Gringotts was down, and they had no idea when it would open. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We went to Olivanders and bought interactive wands, and then spent the next two hours casting spells all over Diagon Alley, going to Shutterbuttons for the amazing video keepsake, and shopping, exploring, and really taking time to enjoy the area. Gringotts didn't come back online until around 11am, and the line immediately jumped to 2 hours long.
The next morning 10/10, we were among the first 50 people in line for Gringotts when early entry opened at 7am. The ride wasn't operational for about another 30 minutes. I think we were in the second or third car to go down the track. We loaded into the vehicle, and were stuck for 7-10 minutes, then went through the ride......with no video whatsoever. The soundtrack played, we got the jist of the ride, but every screen was a black and white grid.
As soon as we got off of the ride, there was a helpful attendant there to tell us we could immediately ride again, and in addition we would be given another pass to come back again later. We hopped back into a small line next to the child swap area, where we waited, and waited for about another 15-20 minutes. At that point a team member came through and said that they had no idea when the ride would be working again, and that we were welcome to sit and wait in the child swap, or we could leave and come back later. Only three families, including us, chose to wait and didn't complain.
After another 10 minutes, the team member came back again and apologized, but said that all guests had to clear the area. For our trouble, patience, and kindness, she gave us all another front of the line pass, good for any ride at either park! With that pass we were able to just walk on the Forbidden Journey at Islands, hop on the Hogwarts Express with a very short wait, and then walk on to Gringotts! It actually worked out much better that way. An hour of waiting patiently and being understanding paid off in dividends of saved time in line during a ridiculously busy time at the parks. My daughter and I were actually grateful the ride broke down first thing in the morning, or our experience wouldn't have been nearly as great.
So, long story short, if you get to Gringotts and it malfunctions, don't throw attitude or fall into a fit. Be patient, be understanding, and maybe good things will happen for you.
