Our Good Neighbors!

Just like so many others in New England, we are covered in a blanket of snow this morning. It started yesterday around noon and continued most of the night. We have about 8-10 inches.
Now about my good neighbors, yes, they are good. Early on in the storm my hubby was out with our snowblower, he made a swipe from top to bottom of one end of the street and then to the other side, cleaning off everybody's sidewalk. What a guy! At about 10:00 last night one of our neighbors at the top of the street did the same thing. This morning hubby is out with the snowblower going again. I just looked out and the guy across the street had brought him out a cup of coffee to warm him up. What a nice gesture!
Everytime we think about selling our house and moving into a smaller one, we always think about what we would loose as far as the neighborhood feeling. We enjoy our neighbors, don't have to do the "coffee klatch" thing, just meet and greet on the sidewalk, but when there is a problem we always know they have our backs, and we do the same for them.
I just wanted to share this warm fuzzy this morning.
Hope you all are having a great day so far and that this little story will make it a better one.

That is a wonderful story. You are very lucky to have a neighborhood that is so friendly of everyone. (Your also lucky to be having snow - I am a south Florida native and am sick of the heat - I would love to have your snow here!!) Tell your DH to blow it this way!! LOL

Nice story! Isn't it wonderful to have good neighbors and living in a neighborhood where people are so kind? I think the hardest part about moving is not knowing if the neighborhood is as good as the one you are currently living.

We didn't have a lot of snow yesterday here on long island, maybe 2 inches but it was not just snow, it was hail and sleet making it very heavy. At around 1030 last night I hear the scraping sound of a snow shovel and I look out my window and my neighbor and his son were shoveling our walks. When there is enough snow he does this end of the block with his snowblower and the guy across the street does that side of the block. I hope they never move because I HATE shoveling snow LOL! Where I work you can go in for overtime for "snow duty" it includes shoveling around the building and the pathways etc- I never ever take that overtime- its like blood money to me LOL!

I will trade you, I HATE this snow. I am really tired of it, would love to be down where you are and not up here. It's been snowing here since yesterday around 1P.

We've got no snow, but we do have wonderful neighbors. I think that a good neighborhood (which is about people, not buildings and yards) is a vastly underrated thing. If you are happy in your community, stay and enjoy it. If you aren't happy in your community, try to change it. The difference between an OK neighborhood and a great one is usually just a few people willing to work to make a difference. That can be blowing snow, clearing debris after a storm, organizing a block party, or just being friendly and social.

Wow-I live in NE and this is a rare occurance. I am glad you live in such a friendly neighborhood. Are you in MA?

Our neighbour Keith always blows the sidewalks clear...he says once he starts he can't stop and feels bad if he leaves someone stuck....what a guy....he also saw me struggling to dig out a huge evergreen in the garden this summer so he brought his truck over and winched it out for me...the guy is the MAN!

We're not in a neighborhood, per se, but we have great neighbors. DH goes to work at 3:30 am, so he was long gone by the time our neighbors started stirring. I've already received 3 phone calls, asking me if we have to go anywhere, because they'll come over and snow blow our driveway. I'll wait til DH gets home, so I can take the AWD Subaru to go out.

We also have elderly neighbors across the way, and we've already checked on them, told them to sit tight, stay indoors, and that we'll get them dug out. The college aged boys next door to them just came and grabbed our snowblower, so they'll be dug out soon.

I had a foot of snow in the driveway yesterday and I watched as my neighbor plowed the drive across the street with his truck. I was thinking about walking over and asking how much to plow mine?

Then he pulls into my driveway. I thought he was just turning around but nope....he drops the blade and starts plowing! I went out and thanked him and he just said "that's what neighbors do."

This is what's going on in my mother's neighborhood. The guy down the street has done her driveway twice today. His son went over and did the back steps for them too.

Wish I could say the same. As usual, my one neighbor with two 20ish boys, not only parks on the street making it very difficult to get by, also plows himself out and doesn't think of anyone else -- I wouldn't mind so much but come on' you own the truck and plow and it takes only a few minutes. I swear he and his boys watch from the window while I shovel out OUR 90 year old neighbor and the four mailboxes. Every time it snows, I get more ticked off:headache:

Of the four surrounding houses, it is he and his two boys, my 90 year old widowed neighbor, a single mom around 45-50 and her 18 year old son and a middle-aged couple with three older teens living at home. No one helps anyone around here with the exception of myself and my elderly neighbor (she helps me in little ways like bringing me her Sunday paper when she's done with it, letting me borrow milk, bringing my mail into the house when I vacation...)

Sorry to hijack -- continue with the good neighbor thread:laughing:

dogluva, we live in CT. And guess what, we have predictions of 3-5 more inches of the white stuff for tomorrow and another storm coming in on Wednesday. Guess it is going to be a white Christmas after all.

That's awesome!

We have great neighbors too!! The kid who used to plow our driveway has gone away to college, so this morning, we realized we were STUCK with 15 inches of snow in our driveway (not counting the DRIFTS!). DH tried to drive his Saturn Vue out, but got stuck. Our neighbor came by, and just jumped out of his truck, tied DH's vehicle to his own, and pulled him out. Then he went on his way......or so we thought. Five minutes later, our neighbor's cousin came by and plowed our driveway out for FREE! He told us that he would do it on a regular basis, but this first time was on the house.

My neighbor snowblowed his lawn yesterday, and guess what? Yup it ended up in my driveway and on my car. I was so mad, I really wish I had seen this happening. He would have been dead!:headache:
