I just looked to see if the prices went down at all for our flight out of PVD on May 7th with Southwest. The whole flight is sold out. Should I be worried about overbooking? Will this mean NO Chances at all of sitting 2 and 2 across from each other and having no one else sit in our row? LOL

I would pay the extra $10pp for the Early Bird. At least you'll get a lower number and can get on the plane sooner, with better chances of being seated together.

SW does overbook, so yeah, not a chance of this.

I think at this point paying for EBCI would be about the same as if I checked in myself probably.

Considering most airlines are flying closer and closer to capacity, one should pretty much guess that every seat will be filled when the plane door closes.

If you don't want to split up or you want to sit next to each other without anyone else, you're going to need to find a different carrier with a different plane configuration.

Maybe the flight is sold out, but maybe it is not. You can't really know.

Check in at the 24 hour mark and get to the airport at the recommended time. You won't have to worry about being bumped or not getting seats together.

I agree with the above poster; if you want to make sure you get seats together (keeping in mind seats are never guaranteed), fly an airline where you can choose seats in advance.

I agree, don't waste the money.

Of course you can tell if the flight is sold out. Go to make a reservation.
Sold Out Sold Out Sold Out
appears in every fare category including fully refundable then the flight is sold out.

You can't tell by how many seats (if any) Southwest overbooked the flight.

A lot of passengers check in at T-24. There is a matter of luck involved. Paying for EBCI could get you a better BP. Significantly better if you miss T-24 by only a few minutes. Will there be connecting passengers on your flight? Then I'd definitely pay for EBCI.

Our Southwest flights are almost always sold out when we go to Orlando. (July) The flight attendants always announce this when we are on the plane. We check in at 24 hrs. (or get EBCI) and never have been bumped.

EBCI checks you in at 36 hours prior to the flight. That means everybody who bought EBCI and nearly all connecting passengers will be checked in before you can check yourself in at the 24 hour point.

If sitting together is very important I think it is worth the extra money.

All we fly is Southwest.

DH always checks us in right at the 24 hr mark, so we've been in mid-B's at the absolute latest.

Since we don't pay for EBCI, we don't get A anymore (DH enjoyed the rush at the 24 hr mark, getting as close as A21&22 once, back in the day). But with B, we have the advantage to kinda look through those already seated and basically get to pick which individual passenger we'd like to sit with for four hours. ;) If you do have A, and you're sitting two and two across for a couple minutes, it won't be long until someone takes those seats.

Our flights have always been "full" and the flight attendants have to remind people traveling alone that they will have to sit next to someone.

The thing is, the OP wants the four of them to sit together AND for the other two seats in their rows to remain empty. With a full flight, even the EBCI is not going to help.

How do you know if there are connecting passengers on our flight?

We leave Providence RI at 7:00am on a Saturday.

I would prefer to not have anyone sit with us..but I completely understand if that has to happen with a full flight.

Also doesn't SW do Family Boarding between A & B boarding groups?

Officially, yes, but with flights to FL, it has been posted many times before that they heavily enforce the 1 adult per eligible child because so many families are going to Disney!

I think you can count out your family of four having two full rows to yourselves, even if you do family boarding or purchase EBCI. You would have to either sit in the aisle and middle seats and hope nobody takes the windows (which someone will do to keep from getting a middle seat) or sit in the window and aisle and hope nobody takes the middle (if they do you will have to move someone into the middle seat and give them the window unless you want another person sitting between you and your kid)

I don't think this is a connecting flight with previous city boarding first. I am looking at a flight from PHL to MCO that connects in PVD on a sat in june. This flight leaves PHL at 6:55am so i thought maybe your situation. But no. The flight # do not match up and neither do they for nearby airports (laGuardia or Manchester). I think this is a true nonstop with an empty plane in PVD.

Overbooking.. I wouldn't worry. People will get off the plane when SW starts playing "let's make a deal" (I see people get off for $50, I hold out for $100 an hour of delay but...)

No, you won't be sitting in row by yourself. But that's VERY rare now anyway on any airline
