We left Ohio on the 13th, stopped for the night in Valdosta, GA (great hotel will stay there next trip too!), got up for trip to Orlando after a brief stop in Ocala on the 14th. Stopped in Ocala to see if we could get a "deal" on room rate. Not a great deal, but not rack rate either - $119 for a moderate (had choice of Coronado, POR and POFQ - chose FQ).
Headed to Orlando and since it was getting to be lunchtime, we headed straight to Downtown Disney! Boys wanted McDonalds, so just had our lunch sitting outside enjoying the warm weather! Enjoyed the Lego area, the wonderful Disney stores and bought a few souvenirs (including our autograph books) to get us started! By now, it was around 2, so we headed to our hotel.
French Quarter is a lovely hotel to stay at, although dh says it isn't really like New Orleans, because it is too clean! ;-) I definitely would recommend it for those interested in a moderate - smaller than the others, with the boatride to DD, the one bus stop and one of my favorites - the beignets!! CM Bill helped us check in, and after much discussion, we decided on building 5 for the closeness to pool, bus stop and food court - we were not disappointed! After finding our room, the boys changed into swimming trunks and we headed for the pool. They loved the serpent slide and the water sprinkling from the clam shell. We relaxed for a couple of hours, then headed back to the room to shower and dress for dinner at Chef Mickey's.
We took a bus from the resort to MK and grabbed the monorail to the Contemporary for our first "ride". We checked in a few minutes before our PS (the line got longer after we checked in), had our family picture taken, saw Donald and Goofy and by this time we were being called to be seated.
CM Hope was our server, and she was nice but very busy too, with two larger groups right by us (and both were celebrating birthdays!). We enjoyed getting to see Chip, Dale, Minnie and, of course, Mickey! The food was good - I particularly had a hard time choosing between desserts, so had small bits of several!
After dinner we walked over to look at the pin trader cart and got our Chef Mickey pins! Took the monorail around to MK and hopped back on a bus to FQ. We walked through the entrance area, so we could get our refillable mugs at the food court - when we were paying at the checkout we were told that they were definitely worth getting if you were staying more than 2 days (and I totally agree!). We went down to the river and took the short boat ride to POR and back - not crowded, and so it was romantic! By now it was time to go to bed, so we headed back to our room and tried to get some sleep.
