Be forewarned.... I am no Del'swife.... I will just be listing the facts. But hopefully you will bear with me.
Cast of Characters:
Myself (female, age 41, first time to DL, family Disney "nut")
DH (male, age almost 39, second time to DL, but can't remember much from first trip in 1982)
DD (turning 10 at the end of July. Becoming a Disney "nut" like Mom, first time to DL)
DS (7 1/2, loves all things "Buzz Lightyear". First time to DL.)
Tuesday, July 12, 2005.... we are driving in from the Hoover Dam. We got a late start out of Las Vegas that morning, arrived at the dam later than planned and hence, left the dam later than planned. So we are cruising with traffic doing 80-85 mph for the 300+ miles to Anaheim. When I realize that there is NO WAY we are making the 6:30 PS for Goofy's Kitchen, we start making some calls to try and let them know we will be late. We keep getting transferred to Disney Dining, which closed at 5pm and it is now 5:15pm. With some persistence we finally get a real person at the DL hotel and she tells us not to worry... it's okay to be late.
We find the HoJo Anaheim despite my lack of good directions. We check in (there was no line), drag our bags up to the room (we're on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator), change into our matching outfits I had planned for the dinner, and head out at a rapid walk toward the parks, DTD, and Goofy's Kitchen.
I was most disappointed to find that there is no really good sign visible from a distance to let you know that DL is there. Sure, there are some banners hanging from the lampposts lining Harbor Blvd.... but the sign for DL is not very exciting. It was a bit of a let down (but the only one for the trip).
We showed up at Goofy's Kitchen at 7:30pm (the walk through DTD was SOOOOO long that DH was convinced I was heading us in the wrong direction) and we were taken right away. Pinocchio was out front doing photos so we had some taken with us and the kids. DD was disappointed that MM would not be her first autograph, but she quickly got over it.
We got a good table with a nice waitress. We saw Goofy, Pluto, Mulan all walking around. The kids got to do a few group dances with Goofy and Pluto.
We tried lots of different foods. DS (7 1/2) tried Peanut Butter pizza, hot dogs, cheese pizza, chicken nuggets.....like the cheese pizza best. Didn't care at all for the PB pizza (and he eats PB&J daily!)
DD (almost 10) tried the PB pizza, cheese pizza, spaghetti, fruit, corn on the cob... thought the spaghetti was best
Mom and Dad tried Prime Rib (YUMMY), mashed potatoes (good), roasted butternut squash with pearl onions and green beans (undercooked), shredded pork tamale (yuck), salad stuff (yummy), kids table... breaded shrimp (good), chicken nuggets (okay), pizza and fries (okay).
Desserts.... giant cookies, chocolate mousse, and chocolate soft serve ice cream were tried by the other three and found satisfactory.
I got adventuresome and tried Minnie's raspberry cheesecake (good), Lemon squares (good), Chip and Dales pecan bars (yummy), cinnamon roll bread pudding (OH MY GOSH GOOD), and rice krispie tower (just okay). SIDE NOTE..... I didn't finish each of these.... I shared with my family.... but I did go back for seconds on the pudding!
We had waited patiently up until dessert for characters. We had only seen Pluto up to now (and Pinocchio on the way in). We let our waitress know that we were still patiently waiting for characters. When they finally came around we got some GREAT interaction! Chip and Dale were hilarious and wrote us notes on our paper tablecloth. Dale wrote that he loved our matching outfits! And Chip grabbed me and kissed me (and made kissy noises!) All in all we saw Snow White, Chip and Dale, Pluto, Goofy, Pinocchio, Minnie. We saw Mulan in passing but she never made it to the table. (Overall opinion... food and character interaction not nearly as good as it is at Chef Mickey's, but we would probably do it again.)
We saw the fireworks at 9:30 from the hotel parking lot. Kids were tucked in by 10 pm. Alarm was set for 6 am... getting ready for our first day in DL!
