Our DirecTV box seems to no longer like remotes--or HD...what gives?

The remotes are charged, everything is all good--but our box just doesn't care to do what our remote is telling it and we have no idea why. This is both the regular remote that came with it (fresh batteries) and our rechargeable universal remote. Nada.


Also--it seems to have dropped all HD channels.

We've done a hard reset (little blue button) and it didn't do squat.


Any ideas?

Call Directv and complain.

Sometimes our will stop working and we unplug it for about 30 seconds then plug it back in. Usually works.

What worked on ours from a tech -

Hold in the power button until the system restarts (less than a minute) and the system worked fine. Easy fix

We have an HDDvr and had a similar problem.Turned out to be a hard drive issue.I got with the DTV tech and went over every possible fix over the phone.He decided it was toast and sent out another.We have the protection plan so it was very easy.

It was just before the 2008 Daytona 500,and being a race fan,the HD was important.Unbelievably,they overnighted a new dvr to us.

Call them up if you've done all you can.There certainly could be an issue with the unit.

If you don't have the protection plan, you might want to consider repair instead of replacement (especially if the problem is just the hard drive). I know for TiVo there are several companies offering repair services; I suspect there are some for DirecTV as well...

Does your box have a data card-similar to a memory card in a digital camera? Try removing that, waiting 30 seconds and replacing. That helps sometimes. I would call Direct TV if it doesn't, they can do a reset remotely. It could be that your box is bad too and they might need to replace that.
