Our party of 5 was dh, myself, and the 3 ds 18,16 and 14. Just wanted to say I tried to please everyone and took all their suggestions in account when making the adr's. We also had the dde card which helped alot and worse ds18 got hit in the mouth with a baseball the day before the trip and had stitches in his mouth so he was a little dining challenged so to speak. My dining strategy is usually breakfast in the room and one good meal a day, usually a buffet.

4-11-06 Late lunch at ESPN. This was Yankees opening day and the ds were in their glory watching on the big screen. The game was only on in the upper right corner. We had dinger sandwhich and dingers for everyone else except myself, I was different and ordered the turkey wrap. The turkey was a little salty and I chose the fruit to go with it. Everyone else liked their meals, poor ds 18 was chopping up his food just to swallow it.

Dinner - Coral Reef - O.K. we got there a little late because we werent hungry at our adr time. The place was jam packed. No place to sit, kids all over the place, my dh freaked out when he went to the bathroom while we were waiting and some guy bought his little dd into the mens room. The one cm started giving out little plastic fish, turtles etc, just to keep the kids who were waiting more calm and quiet, aka, it was a zoo in there. Seriously looked like they overbooked. We waiting about 45 minutes for our table. Our server was Michele. Very prompt and efficient. One of the ds got the glowing ice cube drink. The bread was delicious. DS 18 could only have the lobster soup, 4 of us got that for an appetizer. Dh and ds 16 had the grilled mahi mahi. DS 16 got a little sick of the glaze on the fish at the end, ds 14 hates fish and had the kids pizza, I had the vegetarian strudel. One word - terrible. It too seemed to be smothered with terrikayi glaze inside the pastry. I was expecting something a little more colorful with the julienne vegetables, but they were all brown and sauced out etc. For dessert 2 of the ds shared the chocolate wave and said it was very good, the rest of us shared the butterscotch creme brule and it was great as well.

4/12//06 - Lunch at Flatbread Grill (MGM). This counter service was really crowded but the line moved fast. 2 had the pork sandwhich which came with chips, 2 had the chicken ceaser wrap. This was not a good bargain because it did not come with chips and was about the same price as the pork. I had the greek salad. It was not what I was expecting. It was shredded lettuce and all the vegetables were shredded in the salad too. I was getting annoyed to keep picking out all the onions. It came with 2 small pieces of pita bread. For dessert we shared a chocolate cake, very small, I did not have any. and a fruit eclair. That was very good. I think it had blueberries, strawberries and mandarin oranges on it.

Dinner - Hollywood and Vine - again a long wait and seriously overbooked. We had this issue here in nov. too. Our table was so far away from the food and right next to the window. My ds did not enjoy people peering at us while we were eating and they were waiting for their table. Our server was Bill. He was pretty much on the slow side of serving and very inconsistent service. For example when we came back to the table, our dirty plates were still there etc. We just made a pile and waited for him to eventually take them away. I wasnt too thrilled with the food this time. The turkey pot roast seemed to be lacking the turkey. The corn bread was as good as ever. I did not care for the passionfruit tarts, but the chocolate ones were good.

4/13/06 Princess Story book Dinner. This was just for dh and myself. Call us crazy but we love norwegian food and have been to norway. Let me just say its nothing like the old akershus if you have been there before for the food. Our server was Dagny. She was very laid back but cordial. I did not like that we received our entree when we were hardly done with the cold buffet. For our hot items dh ordered the cod and I ordered the lamb. Dh was disappointed that they only had 2 kinds of herring now on the buffet they used to have 5. He said the tomatoe herring was good. The pasta salad was different from before and I did not enjoy that. The bread was good. The dessert plate had rice creme, chocolate mouse cake and ligonberry tart. I liked the tart the best. The princesses came around one at a time to each table and Only once. You never saw them again. They didnt stay and mingle etc. For the money you have to pay to get your princess fix I would say stick to the breakfast or lunch that is cheaper if you dont like the food here. I dont think we will be in any rush to go back for sure. Another cm Joey came by to talk to us first. We told him we used to come before etc. He said he hated the princesses too but its the only thing that keeps the tables full and keeps them having a job, gheesh. Guess its coming down to disney dollars and cents.
More to come.

was too enjoyable this time around.

We were also there that week (4/8-4/14) and we ate at Coral Reef on the 12th. We were running a bit late and it was a bit crowded, but nothing that I wasn't expecting. Once we sat down it was very nice. We have 2 boys also, but much younger than yours (8 and 3.5) and they enjoyed watching the fish tank.

At all the restaurants we tried during the week, I think that was our longest wait. Everywhere else, we were seated within 5-10 minutes of arriving. In most cases, the food was as good as ever but of course, nothing is perfect at all times so we are switching out to some other choices for our trip in September.

I'm looking forward to reading the remainder of your dining plans to see if you had better experiences later on in the week.

Poor ds to have such an injury before a WDW trip. Hope he's recovered now.

Sorry to hear about flatbread grill. I had high hopes but it looks like the MGM counter curse is alive and well.

Continuing ....

Kringla Bakery in Norway - After everyones rave reviews on the board, I decided to get some snacks to take back to the room. The line was long and out the door, we saw this was due to the fact that the cms were talking amongst themselves and not waiting on any customers. We ordered 2 cherry danish, a sweet pretzel, a cloudberry horn and a school bread. The fruit tart looked yummy too. A lady in line was cutting in front of everyone to ask the cm what was in an open faced sandwhich. If she would have looked she would have seen it in the display case. I didnt say anything to her since it was not polite that she already cut in front of everyone else who was patiently waiting. I think she ended up leaving anyway.

Mexico - DH got us a slushy drink to share. It was fruity and tropical tasting. He said it was the only non alcoholic thing they offered.

Lunch - I forgot we picked up lunch at Captain Cooks at the Polynesian. This was the day of my aunts funeral and I didnt feel like going to the parks in the morning. I really just wanted to grab cold food but the refrigerators were bare so we ordered chicken sandwhiches, pork sandwhiches and chicken fingers. Grapes and pineapple cup. We bought our own sodas from the room. As soon as we paid for our food they restocked the refrigerators, go figure, just our luck. We took the food out on the pontoon boat we rented for an hour.

4/14/06 - Crystal Palace dinner. Good as usual. Our server was Michael. Prompt and efficient. The soup was chicken corn chowder with bacon and potatoes and it was great. The salads were fresh and good. DS 18 was eating alot of cold shrimp since it was easy for him to chew. We did not care for the red velvet cheesecake.

4/15/06 - Dinner at Kona Cafe. After seeing Sea Spray's (Debbies) pictures of that terriyaki steak we just had to go there. For appetizers I had the crab cake and shared with one of the ds. Really small servings for the price. 2 others had the kona chowder and that was delicious. DH and I had the terriyaki filet with mashed potatoes and broccoli. So good. DS 14 had a double burger they made from the kids menu for him, ds 16 and ds 18 had the coconut almond chicken. The chicken breasts were really small, not large enough for 2 hungry teens. It came with a salad which they both did not care for the dressing on, but it has fresh strawberries which they loved. Also our meal started with a round loaf of bread and garlic oil dipping sauce. Lets just say we had 3 loaves of bread. It was delicious. For dessert the 2 ds orderd the kiddie kones which they devoured, one ds had the cheesecake which he said was just o.k. and dh and I shared the banana creme brule, very good. Our server was malia. She was nice and kept apologizing for how busy she was. THe place was really crowded too but we were seated very promptly.

4/16/06 - Easter Dinner at the Garden Grill. This was a first for us. Briefly saw another diser (sorry I will have to look up your screen name). Our server was Raquel and she was fantastic. That was an understatement. Our ds all loved her. We did not care for the ceaser salad. The food was served on a big platter. That consisted of the flank steak, turkey with cranberries on top, fried catfish, the potatoe casserolle and the fresh vegetables, green beans, carrots and yellow squash. I didnt even have to ask for the chicken strips or mac and cheese. She just brought them out. Also we had 2 servings of the bread. That honey orange butter or whatever flavor it is was so good. We all loved it. I didnt think we would like the catfish and can you believe we ended up ordering extra of it. The dessert plate was good too. The ds asked for extra of that too. The characters came around too. I thought it was bizzare at one point we were posing for a picture and the revolving restraunt was out by the land and someone standing there just snaps a picture of mickey but he was with dh and I. Oh well. I am sure she will edit that to just have her own mickey etc. We would come back here.

4/17/06 - Breakfast at Ohana, Lilo and Stitch. We never do breakfast but stitch is ds 14 favorite character and he asked for this. Our server was Daniela I think or something close to it. She was nice but inconsistent. She disappeared alot. Our seat was not that great. Right next to the huge log pile they use for the firepit. Oh well, we were mostly there for the food. Almost everyone hated the eggs and later we had tummy trouble and we traced it back to those who ate the least eggs got the least sick. Nothing too bad but it was annoying. Little ds 14 was the smartest, he ate the least eggs because he said, "they were nasty". The fruit was good as were the mickey waffles, we dont care for breakfast potatoes, the bacon was cooked o.k. but I like it much more crispy. We did get refills on some stuff, but then our server never brought the syrup and more butter so the waffles got cold etc. I dont think we would come back here. Its a waste of money. I hope ds is happy with his fill of stitch.

Dinner at Rainforest at the AK. Glad we had an adr because we saw lots of people waiting for a table. With temps of 90, everyone wanted to sit down in the nice a/c I guess. Again ds 14 asked for this place as its one of his favorites. DS 18 had the barbeque pizza. Its getting easier for him to chew and he said some of his stiches are lose and starting to fall out. Ds 14 had a bacon cheeseburger, ds 16 had the crab cakes, dh had the snapper and I had the coconut shrimp. All was good. Our server was Lori and she was just fantastic. The ds ordered a volcano for dessert. I wasnt feeling well by this time. Ds 18 also had the drink that glowed in the cool lighted cup. Good souvenier for him.

All in all we had good dining experiences and the dde 20% discount really helped. We just couldnt use it on the blackout day - easter.

Hi,

What time was your dinner at Coral Reef? We've got an ADR for 7:20 on 5/7/06. I noticed they close @ 8:00 so I'm wondering if we will feel rushed. :)

:rotfl2: ok, this line really made me laugh.

The entire time I was reading your reviews I was thinking that you must have hated every meal. In all the reviews I've read on these boards, yours seemed to be the most dissatisfied overall (other than the endless anti-disney dining comments by majortom).

I'm glad you weren't as dissatisfied as it seemed. :)

My Coral Reef reservation was for lunch, not dinner; however, it was during Spring Break and everyplace was a madhouse. I was still seated at the exact time of my ADR. In fact, I was seated promptly at every restaurant, despite the huge crowds. Maybe I was just lucky, but I was really impressed with the reservation system.

I see that the crowd impacted on your enjoyment of the meals. What a shame. Try WDW restaurants off peak next time if you can :grouphug: Thanks for posting your review.

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering about the stich breakfast as DD is starting that phase now.

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for sharing.

Thanks for your reviews. We're planning on Coral Reef on our upcoming trip for the first time and I didn't know if there would be something that my teens would eat. Thanks again.
