Cast: Me, DH, DS 16, DD 14.
Sunday, January 1: Stayed at POFQ and ate first CS at Earl of Sandwich in DD. It was just okay, not really what I expected (weird bread), but what do you expect for the price.
Monday: CS at Pinnochio's. We all liked the food and I loved the antipasto salad; it was loaded with meat and cheese. The sandwiches there are filling and good as well. TS was at O'Hanas. At check-in we requested a table in the main area (with the fire pit), so of course we were seated on the OTHER side of the restaurant where you couldn't see anything. At least the food was good and very plentiful. I didn't care for the wings but the family loved them. The shrimp were great and very easy to peel. I liked all the meats except the sausage, but DS and DH liked it. The dipping sauces were pretty good. The dessert was soooo good; a real treat! Our waiter was not very attentive, I guess because the place was pretty busy. The bill was around $165 so he got a hefty tip. We didn't leave any extra tip for him, nor for any other servers on our trip, as none of the service we received was out of the ordinary.
Tuesday: CS at Electric Umbrella. The foodcourt in the Land at Epcot was mobbed, and DS wanted a burger, so we went there. The burgers were actually pretty good, as was DH's roast beef sub. TS at Le Cellier, by far the best meal of the trip. Everyone is right ... their food is superb. DH had the New York Strip, DS had the salmon (he asked for potatoes instead of the vegies but didn't get them), DD had the BEST and TASTIEST prime rib ever, and I got an amazingly tender maple glazed filet. The breadsticks were warm and heavenly. I liked the sourdough ones more than the pretzel. I had to try the cheese soup and am glad I did because is was soooo good! Kind of like a cheesy potato soup with a hint of beer. DD loved her shrimp cocktail, DH had the tomato stack, and DS had a spicy tenderloin skewer which he enjoyed. For dessert DH had a wonderful maple creme brulee, DD had an amazingly moist whiskey chocolate cake, and DS and I both had the kids' chocolate "moose." Our waiter "Mo" seemed too busy that night and we had to flag him down for beverage refills and also the check, which was $200.
Wednesday: CS at the ever trusty Flame Tree BBQ at AK. DH and I got the half BBQ chicken, which came with slaw, beans and corn. The chicken is moist and delicious. DS got the ribs which he very much enjoyed. DD loved her pork sandwich as well. You get a lot of food at Flame Tree and it's always good. TS was out of pocket at Rainforest Cafe and was a disappointment. You definitely pay for the atmosphere at this place. The food was WAAAY overpriced for the quality. I can't even remember what we got, but it's not worth mentioning anyway. Had the volcano for dessert and even it wasn't as good as before.
Thursday: Let me start off by saying that, aside from Brown Derby, MGM has the worst food at any Disney park. We had the unfortunate experience of using our CS at ABC Commissary. DH had some sort of spicy beef dish and DD had an oriental noodle dish. Neither resembled the picture on the menu. Poor DD had to search for the noodles in her bowl. I ended up sharing my very dry fish and chips with her. DD's burger seemed to have sat under a heat lamp for several hours. Horrible. TS was at Sci-Fi. You're absolutely paying for the atmosphere at this place. DS and DD had the baby back ribs, which they pronounced chewy and bland. DH had a mediocre chicken caesar salad. I got the so-called steak, which was tough and awful tasting, and came with some sort of sliced potato which was undercooked and plain nasty. The chintzy salad came with a bleu cheese vinagrette ... let me tell you that bleu cheese shouldn't come in vinagrette form. When I thought that we could have used that TS at Canada (or Chefs de France or anywhere else at Epcot), I just wanted to cry. Warning: If you want to try out the Sci-Fi, just order a milkshake or a burger ... nothing more!!!
Friday: TS for lunch at Liberty Tree. Their food is wonderful; it almost made up for the day before. I had a great salad and the rest had clam chowder. They also have warm, delicious rolls but you have to ask for them. I wouldn't have known about them but for seeing them at the table beside us. DH and I had the excellent tender pot roast, which comes on top of mashed potatoes and was covered with those crunchy onion rings. DS had a huge bacon cheeseburger and fries, and DD got a wonderful Colony salad which was filled with chicken, cheese, apples and pecans. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert! TS (2 of them) was at Hoop-Dee-Doo. You're paying for the show but the food was pretty good. Plenty of salad, loaves of bread with honey butter, corn on the cob, fried chicken, baked beans, and pork ribs which really weren't the greatest, but hey, who cared. I had read that you can order beer, wine or sangria, so I ordered a glass of sangria. Well the sangria IS the wine, with an orange slice on top, and was way too strong tasting for me. So soda from then on. Dessert was a very good strawberry shortcake. We had made our reservation for this about a month before the trip, and were surprised to have a table practically in the middle of the floor. We even got the spotlight on us when asked where we were, and one of the female performers pinched DS's cheeks! All in all lots of fun.
Saturday: CS at Electric Umbrella again, because the marathon was going on and we couldn't find a way to cross over the roped-off area to the Land pavilion. We would have eaten our CS's in World Showcase, but they're all outdoor seating and it was cold that day. The food was still good at El. Umbrella, though. TS was at Teppanyaki. Unfortunately our cook didn't perform any tricks or put on a show in any way; just joked around a little with DS and DD. He cooked all the food on our side of the grill, too ... I suppose for their benefit. We didn't really care for the appetizers, but the food was very good and plentiful. I got steak and scallops, DH got chicken and shrimp, DS got steak and shrimp, and DD got large shrimp. We had bowls of sticky rice and some sauteed bean sprouts, noodles, onions and mushrooms as well. We all passed on dessert (Japan isn't big on desserts) and had dessert later at France's bakery.
Sunday: Our last day and I had to try the beignets at POFQ before leaving so I got three. They were delicious ... light but chewy and covered with powdered sugar. Sooooo good! I used up our remaining snack credits (12) with micky mouse rice krispy treats to bring home. We had four CS credits remaining so headed over to Pepper Market at CSR for lunch. We had stayed there previously and knew how good the food is there. And it still is!!! This is by far the best bang for your buck at a CS restaurant. DD had Fettucini Alfredo with chicken, DS got a bacon cheeseburger with fries, I had beef fajitas which came with beans and rice, and DH got a chicken quesadillas platter. Plenty of sour cream, salsa, jalapenas, etc. on a condiments table.
Had a choice of cookies or muffins for dessert, so got those to take home. The food at Pepper Market is soooo good. You can even get an $18 ribeye if you want! Our bill there was $70 ... for lunch!
Well that's about it. Just one thing, when paying with your dining card (which is your room key), you always get a receipt to sign. Make sure and check the remaining credits you have left on the receipt. At our first snack stop (Sleepy Hollow in MK) for two drinks, the server rang up 22 credits used instead of 2. We didn't notice til later and had to get it straightened out at our front desk. So keep your receipts for proof! Any questions, just ask.
