We were at Cedar Point when the blackout hit. Luckily we had just left the hotel elevator and were on a shuttle bus to the marina when we noticed one, then another, and another and another roller coaster all stuck!
The Millenium Force was stuck almost at the top of the first hill. Literally the first car was just about at the top. The Dragster did not get stuck. We found out later that most of the roller coasters have backup generators to get the stranded cars back to the station. However we did see people walking down the Raptor and the Gemini. Also those on the Space Spiral were stuck up there almost an hour.
At the Hotel Breakers, where we were staying, they offered refunds but the traffic to get off the peninsula was gridlocked so we stayed put. Cedar Point was also taking names and addresses to give possible park ticket refunds.
The pluses of the blackout--Cedar Point once again became a bathing beach resort. The beach was PACKED. The boys got to play mini-golf for free. The hotel handed out Krispy Kremes, muffins, then bagels for free. We got waffle cones for $2 each. Ice water was free.
The power came back on around 8 pm to a loud cheer from the crowd and stayed on! No problems with the water.
We heard the next morning that the restaurants were packed once they reopened about 9 pm.
We luckily had some food with us and ate sandwiches for dinner. We went out for breakfast and all ate quite a bit!
It was an exciting vacation to say the least. But I'd rather not have that kind of excitement again.
Edited to accomodate the DIS Censors.....Thanks Towncrier for helping me with my spelling.
