Our best meal this trip was at Flame Tree BBQ...who knew?!

Got back last weekend from our trip. We ate at a lot of good places (and some not so good). But, interestingly, we all agreed that our best meal was at Flame Tree BBQ in the Animal Kingdom. The quality/taste was great and it was more worth the cost than some of our other meals. This is what we did:

1) Mara at AKL. We had dinner here on our arrival night and one other night during our trip. The meals were fine, no complaints (very good couscous!). As our resort quick service, this rated very good in our books. We ate breakfast every day here. Mickey Waffles were yummy. Some days we got them with strawberries and cream. That took me back to our prior visit at WL and Roaring Forks. My only complaint with breakfast was that on some mornings, they quickly ran out of some of the pastries and yogurt parfaits. Those were never replenished while we were in the restaurant. That was a minor inconvenience for my husband who doesn't normally eat the eggs, bacon, etc. My daughter also got tired of the grapes that you get with every kids meal. We got to the point that we just turned them down instead of wasting them.
2) Flame Tree BBQ at AK. Like I said before, speedy service, great quality food and a good value relatively speaking.
3) Boma - The food itself was good quality, and we had tons of food, but I don't think they had the same variety of choices as when we visited in 2012. For the money, we felt a little let down. We would still come here again, but I wanted more variety for my buck.
4) 50's PT Cafe at HS. We ate lunch here. We had eaten dinner here on our visit in 2012. This time it seemed that the portions were much, much smaller. My husband commented that he needed another meal after we left. Taste was only so-so as well. Big disappointment in my book this time.
5) Sci Fi Drive In at HS. We ate dinner here and were much more pleased than we were at 50's PT. Food portions were more substantial than at 50's PT and the food itself was tastier. We would visit again.
6) Be Our Guest in MK. We had lunch here. Ok, so I really, really wanted to like this experience, but again, it was a big letdown. The food was ok, but not worth the hype it gets. I guess I'm glad we did it once, but it will certainly not be high on the repeat list for us.
7) Biergarten in Germany at EPCOT. We had dinner here. The food and entertainment was good. My 9yr old did have sort of a hard time finding food that she would eat, but she didn't starve. What put a damper on our visit was that the family that was seated at our table had some issues. We were a group of 3, they were a group of 5, with a couple of small children that were very tired and cranky. The kids spent the whole time crying or throwing silverware on the floor, while the parents spent most of their time yelling at the kids or getting up from the table, even leaving my family alone with their kids for a portion of time. I realize this is in no way a fault of the restaurant, but it made for a less than magical dinner. I would eat there again, but understand that because of the community seating, you may end up with an awkward evening.
8) Liberty Inn at America Pavilion in EPCOT. Service was quick, food was good. Not the best, not the worst. Good choice for lunch if you are not into the more exotic foods at EPCOT.
9) Columbia Harbor House in MK. We ate lunch here on our last day. We love being able to sit upstairs where it is less crowded and quieter. It's a good break from the crowds of MK. We like the food here and portions and price are good for lunch. One of the better choices in MK.

I agree with BOG, glad we did it for the experience but food was just bland and blahh..

agree the lunch food is very blah unless you get the braised pork......dinner is another story....last time had the lamb and it was to die for....

My family will travel with my sister's family in early June. We're on the DDP. From your list, we will do 50's Prime Time Cafe for lunch and Biergarten for dinner too. I'm kind of glad if the portions are not too big for 50's PTC, because most of us are not big eaters. We'd love to save room for dessert. I'm sorry Biergarten wasn't that magical for you. I hope we'll have a better experience. As for BOG, we will do dinner there. I've heard mixed reviews regarding dinner, mostly good, so that's promising. I decided on dinner, because of those reviews, and the fact that we would love to meet the Beast!

I'm not surprised you liked Flame Tree BBQ so much! We loved it too when we were there during our one and only trip back in 2011! I keep hearing lots of good comments about Flame Tree BBQ, so we will make it a point to go there again on our AK day!

I agree about Flame Tree, we had great service, great food and a nice place to sit and eat! We were there also this month.

Good to know about Flame Tree BBQ, have never eaten there and might have to check it out on our next trip.

Sci Fi is also on our to do list for our next trip, so glad you had a good experience there!

We also like Liberty Inn and Columbia Harbor House. Simple, but it works for our kids.

How weird about the family in Biergarten though! Sometimes Disney just doesn't bring out the best in people.

Yeah, I did feel bad for them. I really think it just must have been a long, tiring day and it was just meltdown time. I think most of us parents have been in similar situations.

We love eating at Flame Tree BBQ too! For people afraid of birds this might not be the place to eat. Large birds walk around looking for food and they can get aggressive.

I am excited to try Flame Tree on our next trip!

Just an FYI, you can sub the kids meal grapes for something else. It varies by location, but there's usually a list of things like carrots, cookie, yogurt, applesauce, fries, jello, etc.

Great report! We love Sci-Fi, a must-do for us every time!

I think Flame Tree is some of the best food at AK, so I completely agree! We went to BOG for a lunch last trip, and although I enjoyed the ambiance, the food was just "meh". Looking forward to a family dinner at O'Hana and a Character Breakfast at Crystal Palace hopefully for our December trip!

Flame Tree has always been one of my favorites. I've eaten there my last three trips! This is high praise given the fact that I HATE BIRDS and they always try to attack me there.

I have never had the onion rings though and will be trying those for the first time this trip.

I also love Flame Tree and believe it is one of the best CS spots in WDW.

Last time I was there, the man eating at the table beside me decided to get up and leave his meal behind to go back to get more napkins and goodies. He asked in passing if I would watch his food. Yikes! The birds swarmed right up to the table & I had to yell for him to come back to rescue his food b/c I was def not going beak to beak with those critters.

ps the onion rings are excellent. I subbed out my dessert for the rings and had no regrets. Yummy.
