I got us ressies for Canada for lunch on our anniversary... but I wish there was something more that I could do.
We got engaged on top of Wilderness Lodge last year during Wishes. Minus the rings I think I spent about 400$ for the two nights and dining. It was my goal to stay there again this year, but there's not enough money for it.

I'm just at a lost as what to do to make it a better day. Birthdays sucked, I won't touch Valentines Day with a ten foot pole, Christmas was miserable... I think our last good holiday/special day was Halloween, and this year I wasn't able to get reservations for the Fort in time... so far nothing looks good.

I know Kari's fine with our plans so far, but I'm always the good one at creating huge surprises and special moments. I guess I'm dissapointed in myself more than her.

I hate to sound cliche but really it is the thought that counts.

I remember a very long time ago that that my father was unemployed and there were five kids in the family. For Valentine's Day he bought my mother one of those Russell Stover boxes of chocolates that held four pieces of candy. She was so touched she cried. She also saved the box. It was not heart shaped, just a regular square box.

Years later when she wanted a new wedding ring, my father found that candy box in her dresser drawer and gave her the ring in the same box.

I'm sure you are the one more disappointed but really in this economy everyone knows that special surprises have to take a back seat to the necessities.

I think it's sweet that you want to give your beloved romantic moments, and celebrate the important dates in your lives. But let me tell you, as a girl and as a romantic, that it's not the grand financial gestures that make my pulse race. My wife is so thoughtful of my needs and my heart -- and she's a poet. She can put her heart into a poem.... would I rather have a $1000 romantic spa retreat for the two of us or one of her poems? Hm, let me think!!

I'm feeling kinda mushy at the moment, so bear with me ... let me just say that if your sweetie is anything like me, you revealing your heart to her will mean MUCH more than a pricey weekend at the World. And that's coming from a die-hard Disney fanatic.

p.s. Happy Anniversary!!!

I know it's the thought that counts, but I can't think of anything to do to make it special.

The actual engagement and such was all helped by WL managers. He even provided us with two free cakes (one white, one chocolate) and two bottles of non alcoholic apple cider. Since I planned it with friends to be there, he let us all chit chat and such on the 7th floor afterwards with desert.
One year for her birthday, we ate at Coral Reef. What made it special was the day before I talked with the manager and arranged to have her presents at the table when we sat down. The fun part was wrapping them all just outside the restuarant because I had to go through security with the "open" packages. I also had a cake made at Carvel with Flounder on it and brought it in with me. They stored it in thier freezer till lunch was over and put a chocolate banner across the top that said happy birthday and candles. We only ate the 1/2 of cake without flounder on it and stored the rest in our freezer for well over a year cause she couldn't bring herself to eat flounder or throw it away. We have a photopass picture of a half eaten flounder cake...
For my birthday, she got me a mickey cake... well full mickey cakes have to be ordered 48hrs in advance and are like 50$... so she went to the bakery at the Boardwalk, bought a small round cake, and then put an individual mickey head shaped cake on top of that to make me my "mickey cake". Bought a couple of balloons, I love the latex mickey balloons, so she wrote happy birthday on the clear mylar part of the balloon for me.

It's not necessarily about money... it just helps in following through with ideas. I just don't know how to make it special. Even eating at Coral Reef, we both had kids meals, and the ice cream cake was only like 15$. We're only getting kids meals when we go to le celliers on tuesday because you can still get the cheddar cheese soup cup as a side. :)

She also has her boxers in a bunch over me going to visit my aunt for a week. I'm not looking forward to it, but I agreed to go. My aunt has this non stop persitant thing of "you could look for a job out here, you could come live with us, you could move to texas"... and kari's the jealous and scared type to think I'd might actually go live out there. So all I've heard from her is I'm going to miss you and you're not going to leave me forever, right?

Thank you for sharing that story of your Mom and Dad. It was beautiful.

My husband and I have been married for 25 years; Young and poor, we bought $5 wedding rings and had pizza and Chinese food to celebrate.

I cherish that ring and wear it still.

We have had Anniversaries where we could afford to get away for a weekend and Anniversaries when a chicken dinner by candlelight was the best we could do. My memories of the small celebrations are just as vivid and important as the grand ones.

There are loads of special, romantic things to do at WDW without paying a dime.

For instance, if Wishes has special meaning to you... go watch the fireworks from the beach at the Polynesian. They pipe the music in, its a great view, and doesnt cost a dime!

Hi SandrA

If your anniversary is before the end of August, how about a romantic remaking of your special day watching Wishes at the MK, and attending the Wishes Dessert Party. It is about $18 an adult.

Here is a review of it on the DIS:

I find chocolate and desserts to be very romantic. I am hoping someone will treat you to DISNEY DOLLARS to celebrate your special occassion.

Well I was able to reclaim myself.

So Tuesday, the 28th, we spent the day at Epcot, and ate at Canada. I booked it like a month ago, so I've been making sure there would be enough to cover the bill (only 25$). And let me tell you, we were stuffed for nearly the entire day.
Well even though Wishes is supposed to be the special moment... to her it's actually the EWP. Because we watched it on the beach before going to the rooftop, and then she got to watch it again from the rooftop as it played in back of the Contemporary (I think this was a bigger highlight than anything else that happened up there... I know she's a bit wierd).
So we watched Illuminations, hopped onto the monorail over to the contemp to watch the EWP. It's supposed to go off at 10:15, just after Wishes. Well we got off the monorail and I ran to the 4th floor balcony because the Scorcerer Apprentice part is my favorite part, but I missed it by a minute and it was at "let me see thy face"... Well we watched to the end and she missed the beginning of the EWP. She would not shut up about it for the whole monorail ride back to Epcot to the car.

So I told her tonight, the 29th (our actual date), when she gets off work at 9:15 to head straight to the Contemp and we could watch the WHOLE EWP. Well I was waiting on the convention floor (since there's steps out to the back from that floor), and I asked the lady at the California Grill check in if you could see the EWP from the rooftop. I figured we could eat there next year so she could see both. She's like yeah you can, would you like to go watch Wishes and the EWP?? At that point Kari shows up out of no where and just as confused by this as I am. So we got to go to the roof top of the contemp. I guess they wanted to hurry up the EWP cause of the rain, but they tried playing it before wishes and ended up overlapping. Since the music of Wishes is piped in, you couldn't hear the EWP. So we watched Wishes and then she got to watch the EWP play in front of the magic kingdom. Not to mention we were up there early enough to hear it play in front of WL and Fort Wilderness. So she got her fix of the EWP, and we watched wishes in it's entirety.

I'm guessing since it was raining and sorta miserable out tonight, they weren't too concerned about it being crowded up there on the balcony. A lot of people were actually let into the side private room to watch wishes from the inside. It was really really cool being up that high.
So I made it special without even meaning to. ^.^ But I think next year I'll still try to get ressies for up top.
