Our 2008 grand, GRAND FLORIDIAN Christmas trip 12/6-12/14

My parents bought a house in Englewood, FL, last year. They have been asking us to come visit them...while they are there (they live there from Jan-April...and visit sporadically at other times of the year.) We came back from FL, in December...as you know, from WDW so, we really couldn't justify another big vacation so soon. This was supposed to be a bare-bones kind of trip...we would stay with them, we would drive:scared1:, we would hang out at the beach and just spend time with them since we haven't seen them since Christmas.
OK...so now the WDW part comes in...I know, to me it's just a given that when you think of FL...you think of WDW! Right?!? My original thought was..."Let's just drive through..." then I thought "Let's stop...and talk some more about DVC" then, I thought "Let's see if we can time things right...and possibly do a waterpark." Now, the gears were really starting to turn...but, staying over or doing a regular park were really out of the question...since we had just been there. And...do NOT laugh...I really didn't think I could go back to WDW if it wasn't Christmas...I really thought it would feel like something was missing!:confused3 As you will see...it didn't take long for me to get over that!!!
So, I need to go back to January now. I drop my little one off at school everyday...I see the same people everyday...all of a sudden one cold day in January, this girl, who I had never seen before, comes up to me with this reeeeeally southern accent and says "Are you Leighan?" I don't have a sordid past, or anything but, immediately I thought..."OMG, what did I do?!?":scared1: She tells me that her husband is a guy that I went to high school with...she says "he used to be a basketball player...but, he doesn't look like a basketball player, anymore...he recognized you but, he is too shy to say hello...'can he say, hello'" I thought, OF COURSE HE CAN!!! He was a pretty good friend of mine...20 years ago. I couldn't wait to say Hi...and catch up...and now I had met his wife...who was a doll, I was so excited to chit chat, the next day at school. Which is exactly what happened. I of course, had Disney on the brain, as usual...so, of course that came up! And guess what???? They just moved back here from Orlando...THEY BOTH USED TO WORK AT DISNEY!!! TALK ABOUT A SMALL WORLD!!! We stood outside on that cold January morning for two hours!!! They used to work at MGM, the GF and the WL. So, fast forward to two weeks ago...they tell me they can get me real park tickets...that hop...for NOTHING!!! It was iffy until the day before we were leaving...but, once it was confirmed...the gears in my brain were off and running again!!! If MK was closing at midnight, and we could hop there...we were not going to get in the car at closing and drive the two hours to my parents house...and of course we had to be at WDW on Saturday morning...so, the plan was now...to drive like lunatics to WDW...check in at whatever time on Friday nt/Sat AM...stay that night, get up for probably, MK or Epcot...stay over Sat nt, swim at the hotel, on Sunday and THEN continue on to my parent's house. Soooo, off I went to Mousesavers.com to check on some codes...then I got on the phone...I was armed with 3 applicable codes...I priced the GF, WL, Poly and POR...they were $1200, $1100, $1100 and $430 respectively...with my codes...they dropped to $900, $750, $750 and $290!!!! I said "I'll take POR for $290!!!" The girl on the phone was just as excited for me, as I was for myself!!! We made an ADR, which we didn't end up keeping...I'll get to that later...when I tell you that I'm no longer a fan of the mealplan or ADRs. I hung up...kept packing...I had to focus on getting the rest of the packing done...but, I had park hours to look up...and details to plan!!! I could NOT believe that we were on our way. I called my parents to let them know that we would now be arriving on Sunday, instead of Saturday. My Dad said he knew that, that would be the case...he joked that once we were at WDW that we would never get any further south...he knows me well!:lovestruc My DH was in bed, while I made all these plans...when he got up at midnight...the girls screamed "WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!!!:scared1: When he went to bed, at 5pm that night...he knew there was a possibility that we might get the tickets...but, there were no concrete plans. While we waiting for DH to get ready, the girls were not happy about the ride that lay ahead...couldn't blame them...I was not looking forward to it either. But, it certainly helped morale when I said "tonight...we'll be at Disneyworld!!!" We left the driveway at 1:16am!!!:scared1:

I probably haven't mentioned that I have become a huge Facebook addict...a la my friend and his wife from WDW. I posted the whole way down the coast..."Leighan is in NY," "Leighan is in Virginia," "Leighan is passing South of the Border." I had lots of friends writing in and lots of conversations going...it made the commute much more tolerable...I was also able to fill in DH on all the plans. We decided that we would meet my friends' friend...who had the tickets, at AK...then we would spend the morning at Epcot and do MK til closing...at midnight. We would have a busy, busy day...but, it would not wasted...and we would have ALLLLL day Sunday to rest and relax by the pool, at POR.
Photo_041709_025.jpg

We were way ahead of schedule...we were in Maryland by 9am...through VA by noon...once we were in GA by late-afternoon, I knew that we'd not only make it to WDW by a reasonable time...but, with potentially enough time to walk around POR, get some dinner, and even a swim! We crossed into FL, around 6pm!!! It was sunny, warm...lots of palm trees...I couldn't believe that we made it as fast as we did!!!
DSC08329.jpg

Once we got to I4, I turned on the camera to take pictures of the Disney signs...two hours later...I FINALLY saw them! I way underjudged how long the commute down I4 would take us. But, then there they were the signs for WDW!!!:woohoo: This is something you don't get to do when you fly...capture all of the WDW traffic signs...nice to have!!! But, now that I have them...I'm good to never see them again...hope we'll be flying from now on!!!
DSC08332.jpg

We entered WDW...of course it was dark so, there was no chance of taking that coveted picture...but, I was soooo ok with that. We drove through the gates...and it was like going to heaven!!!:cloud9: The Disney busses had new purple balloons on the windows. I kept repeating "I can't believe we're here!!!" We pulled into POR...gave the man at the gate our names...he opened the gate and said "Welcome home" OMG!!! Do you have goosebumps?!?:rotfl: I did...I love the sound of that!!! So, we pulled up at the entrance...I got out and smelled the POR smell...I can't describe it but, I love the smell...GF, has it's own, too. I walked in checked us in...I did notice that there was no giant tree or any garland...but, I found that I was ok! Phew!!! We were in building #16...knew exactly where it was because we have stayed in #18, and #15...I was psyched because I loved that location. So, we drove around to our building...unpacked some stuff...and made our way over the bridge, passed the waterwheel and to main building for dinner. We had clam chowder for dinner...outside at the marina. It was a beautiful, balmy night!!! Erin and I decided to run inside to the gift shop, while my DH and other DDs went for a swim. Erin immediately went for the charm bracelet...which she had asked for in December...and I had said no, then. I told her I'd think about it...as with all the charms she had added...that it would cost over $40!!! So, we walked back to the room...she wanted to swim. So, we took a quick dip in the pool...and then headed in to watch some Stacy and go to bed!!!
DSC08339.jpg

We woke up on Saturday morning to a beautiful, sunny day!!! We met our friends' friend...got into AK with no problems...it seemed to good to be true!!! The tickets that we were getting from her, I thought were $79 a peice...while in line, I noticed that with the PH option...they were $125 a peice. Did I also mention that I had two tickets left from 2001...that I thought had a day or two left on them...they checked those at AK...and they did!!! So, we were parkhopping for the day for $0!!!
DSC08342.jpg

We strolled through AK...over to EE...the line was 40 minutes...fp were good for after 12:40 so, we decided to go with our original plan to go to Epcot and finish the day at MK. Of course, I needed a picture with the Tree of Life. AK is really beautiful...the more time I spend there, the more I love it!!! But, we had to be really careful with how we spent our time...if we planned to get everything in.
DSC08345.jpg

So, off we drove to Epcot...I must say...WDW with a car is soooooooo much easier than on the busses! We drove right into Epcot...parked close enough to not have to worry about the tram. I was holding my breath that my PH tickets, wouldn't hop...but, we went right through...we were in!!!!
DSC08347.jpg

I kept repeating "I just can't believe this" "I can't believe we're here!!!" I drove the family crazy!!! The Cinderella garden, is what you see when you walk through the gates...with all of my short term planning...I didn't even realize that we were there during the Flower and Garden Festival...it was beautiful!!! It didn't take long to notice that the park was very different than at Christmas but, this made up for that...it was so pretty!!! As you walked around the sides, you saw Snow White and the rest of the princesses. We ran over to the land to get fp for Soarin...come back time was after 12:50...once we got those...I felt like we could take a deep breath and enjoy the day...whatever we did from that point was extra!!! We walked over to Testtrack...the standby line said 40 minutes...we were on in less than 20. We love that ride!!!
DSC08349.jpg
DSC08350.jpg

On our way over to the Ellen ride...we passed the mist tents...something we never used while there in December. It was really hot in the sun...would never complain about that, though. While we were there in Dec 08, there were nights that it was 40 degrees or colder!
DSC08354.jpg

UP NEXT: The Ellen ride, lunch at the Rose and Crown, World Showcase...

Leighan!!! You're home!! :banana:I just breezed through your update!! You sound like you had a FANTASTIC time!!:lovestruc I love your excitement through your writing.....your other "friend" from Plymouth filled me in.....maybe next time I'll be able to join you? LOL!!;) I can't see any of your pictures for some reason....maybe later? I'm off to take the boys to see "Earth" by Disney now...I'll check in later on!! Have a good day!! Btw, I'm addicted to Facebook, too!! Maybe you can be my friend there too? LOL!!

Yes, we're back...nice to be home!!! We brought the sun and the 80s home with us!!! Think of it as my souvenier!:rotfl: I just signed on and off...because when this whole report was done...I couldn't see the pictures either!:scared1: I can see all but, one now...which is a good sign...but, I'm afraid to do another post. This one took over an hour...don't know if I want to try another one...and find out there is a problem...hmmm...what to do?!?
Hope you have fun at Earth! I'll PM you about FB!:thumbsup2

We made our way over to Ellen's Energy Adventure...Erin cannot just walk down the sidewalk...she needs to walk on every bench, curb, stonewall that she sees on her way
DSC08355.jpg
Photo_041809_003.jpg

We love the Ellen ride...Ellen is so funny...you are not supposed to take flash pictures in there but, I noticed that my phone camera worked rather well, and it has no flash...so, I finally got some Ellen pics!:thumbsup2 Love Ellen and Stupid Judy!
Photo_041809_008.jpg

As we made our way over to the World Showcase for lunch...we noticed this fountain...set to music...the water sounded like fireworks! Not sure if this is new or something we never noticed in the past...it was nice because the mist would blow out and depending on where you stood, you could get misted or soaked! There were many places strategically located throughout the park to get misted or soaked...something that became very important as the day went on...it got pretty hot...something we had never worried about on prior December trips.
DSC08357.jpg
DSC08359.jpg

This bridge was so pretty...the new Celebration decorations adorned all the lightposts. For the flower and garden festival there were beautiful flower arrangments floating in the water.
DSC08361.jpg

We considered walking over to France for lunch but, then decided that if we could get seating on the patio at the Rose and Crown that we would eat there. We couldn't pass up the R&C...as we approached it, it smelled so good!!! We asked if there was anything available...we were told maybe 10 minutes but, they couldn't gaurantee seating on the patio. It was such a beautiful day...I did not want to pass up eating outside. I then noticed empty tables next to the R&C...they are public seating, in the shade. So, we ran around the corner to the counter service fish and chips place...which was exactly what we were looking for, anyways!!! So, we got 4 orders of fish and chips (Erin shared with everyone,) took it to the patio seating...our beeper went off in the meantime so, we cancelled that ADR...as well as the one I had made on Thursday night at Tony's Town Square...and had a beautiful lunch, in the shade, overlooking the lagoon. A little secret...I'm passing along to all of you...after we left there, I tried to figure out where there was other public seating...there is tons of it, I just always assumed any of the tables and chairs were affliated with the restaurants...and they're NOT.:thumbsup2
DSC08372.jpg

Our plan from that point on was to go to Canada and see their movie...use our fp's for Soarin...and do Nemo's ride...and then make our way around World Showcase and have coffee and dessert in France. We had a 13 minute wait for the movie in Canada so, we browsed in the gift shop, got Erin the mask to color and add tags from all the nations, took some pictures of "Niagara Falls" it was not running in December, so, we took a few pictures of that and of the gardens.
DSC08380.jpg
DSC08385.jpg

I'm not a huge fan of the circle vision films, until I saw that Martin Short was starring in Canada's. We love him...especially as Franc, in Father of the Bride. That was pretty good...makes you want to go to Canada!
Photo_041809_019.jpg

More pretty flower pictures...there were photo boxes floating in the water. I was hoping to find something to read about what they were exactly...but, I didn't. They were really pretty, though.
DSC08389.jpg

We did the Nemo ride...and then walked all through the aquarium...this was a very photogenic turtle! He was "posing" for everyone. I love this spot for a picture...saw this in someone else's TR...needed to have my own.
DSC08401.jpg
DSC08404.jpg

Love this picture of the monorail...especially because it's the pink one...the Mickey head balloons were on all the monorail and bus windows...Kristen, a little change since we were there! Very cute!
DSC08405.jpg

Pluto is one of our favorites...he had a very cute garden!:lovestruc
DSC08407.jpg

UP NEXT: Will be World Showcase...got a little ahead of myself last time.

I am a very chronological person...this is part of the reason why this TR is taking me so long to finish...everything MUST be in chronological order!:rotfl: This picture was taken as we were leaving Canada(which was before Soarin and Nemo)...I thought it was a great shot of the crowd...and a nice view of the Lagoon. I just like it!:thumbsup2
DSC08408.jpg

By the time we walked over to the World Showcase it was getting reeeeally hot. The idea was to get to France for dessert. We started in Mexico...which if you start on the left side of the lagoon...is almost completely opposite from France...but, the kids didn't know that! They do now... I thought it would be nice to stroll through the countries...but, I thought there was much more shade than there was...it was getting hotter, the more we walked. Erin has started these masks three times...so, I thought it would be nice if she actually got tags from ALL the countries this time. Mexico and Norway went fine...by China we were all starting to drag...but, we kept going! By the time we reached America everyone was complaining...by this time I wanted to finish my...I mean, Erin's mask!;) So, into every country we walked...did a little browsing and got our tag...by Germany, we were all so hot, that we were now just searching for the tags so, we could move on. We finally got to France...we were all hot and tired...I was not feeling much like pastry and coffee...more like something cold and wet...not much to pick from if that's what you're aiming for in France. But, we did just fine...I got a Napolean, Erin got what I called a canoli...that would have been correct if we were in Italy...not sure what they call it in France. We also got chocolate mousse and cheesecake. DH and I got frozen cappuccinos...Courtney and Alli got Powerade, and Erin got what else...chocolate milk. It was quite relaxing...nice to "refuel." The table we chose was right next to one of the Kim Possible targets...there were about 25 kids who walked up next to our table...pressed their cell phone thingy...screamed Fromage...and then walked away. My girls thought they'd like to try that but, then decided they were too hot. Once they had their sugar fix however, they were like brand new kids...running, and skipping and bouncing...literally off the walls! We still had a long night ahead of us...so, I was relieved to see that!
DSC08424.jpg
DSC08429.jpg

The crowds looked a little heavier as we made our way through England...again. But, it was very pleasant...still hot but, more shade on that side. It was time for us to get going...we wanted to get back to the room...cool off and get to MK
DSC08434.jpg

I wish I had uploaded some of the pictures of my hot, sweaty children standing in China...as if they were being tortured by the heat. Here they were bouncing around and could hardly stand still for this picture...but, at least they look like they are having fun!:thumbsup2 I think I already mentioned the garden in England but, in case I didn't...I love the garden in England...it is so pretty!
DSC08435.jpg

As we were heading out of Epcot...we came across the Mickey the Sorcerer garden...that was one of my favorites...so, cute!!! We thought we might do Spaceship Earth but, the line was out the door...so we continued on...couldn't wait to get to MK!!!

NEXT UP: Magic Kingdom!!!

Just caught up on your TR. I was drawn in because we are going approx that same week this year! Your youngest looked like she had a GREAT time at BBB...what a special treat for her! The Small World story was too funny! Good thing you still made it to CRT!

How exciting, an impromptu visit to WDW! I'm looking forward to more updates soon. :goodvibes

Apparently, there must have been issues with photobucket before...all of my pictures are here now...which is why I have continued on...also, I am sick. Not horrific or anything...sinus infection or allergies...I've never had either so, I don't what is wrong with me. Just don't feel like doing anything, other than updating this long overdue TR...so, I'll just continue...while I have the time and I have clearance from the family that mom is ill! So, continuing on.........

We jumped in the car and were back at POR in 6 minutes...that would never happen on a bus...maybe a monorail?!? I really enjoyed having a car available. We all got changed...stuck our feet in the pool...had some snacks...and we were off....
On the busses or the monorail...I never got this shot...

Photo_041809_026.jpg

We walked through the gates...and while it did seem strange that there was no giant Christmas tree...or garland...there were hydrangeas in place of the tree and I got this picture of the girls with the Roy Disney/Minnie statue...something I had just read about but, had never noticed with the tree in that location...I love this picture!!! Hydrangeas are my favorite...such a nice way to begin our evening in MK! :cloud9:
DSC08441.jpg

As we walked toward Frontierland...I had Erin stop and pose...I love this whole area of MK...Liberty Square. Bobby was testing me...he thought it was crazy that we had just been to WDW in Disney and we were now back again...he really didn't have an argument however, given that everything was free! My defense was and always is..."there are sooooo many things that we still haven't seen or done!" One of them is the Liberty Belle, Tom Sawyer's Island...so, we stopped to take a picture...and planned to jump on the boat...on our way out of Frontierland...
DSC08447.jpg

Our plan was to start with Big Thunder Mountain...we went to get fp's and while they had them...the ride was down. So, we took a chance and got some...hoping it would open back up. We got in line for Splash Mtn, instead. It was probably about 30 minutes...but, it was a beautiful night...we were in the queue when the outside lights came on...I think Splash Mtn is my most favorite ride! It is just so cute! Courtney posing in front of all the trees with all the little lanterns...they actually warranted taking a picture of just the lanterns and the bird house. Once we got onto the ride...and went down the first LITTLE drop we got completely soaked!!! After the big drop...we almost had to leave and/or buy new clothes...we were beyond soaked...we were dripping...that had NEVER happened to us before in December. I have heard that they change the "soak" level by the weather or the season...I believe that now!!! As we walked out of Frontierland...The Liberty Belle was closed...as well as Tom Sawyer's Island! Those will just have to wait til next time! We did Haunted Mansion next...love that ride!!! We got stuck for about 10 minutes overlooking the bday scene...that was kind of cool...to check out all the details...we saw all kinds of things we usually miss. Then we went over to Adventureland...did POC and the JC...both favorites...at this point I don't think there is anything that is NOT a favorite! We were on our way over to Main St. and suddenly there IT was!!!! DoleWhips...we had never tried one, we were on our way to dinner...we were really not hot anymore because we were all soaking wet but, we had to try one!!! So, the five of us split one...wow...delish!!!! We looked like I don't know what...5 poeple with 5 spoons...eating one Dolewhip.
DSC08448.jpg
DSC08452.jpg

So, off we walked to Main St...our goal was the bakery for ham and cheese croissants! We got there just in time...Spectromagic was just ending...the crowds were all walking toward the castle for Wishes...and we were crossing Main St. Luckily we got into the door of the bakery and I think the entire crowd followed us in. The line was out the door within seconds! However, the croissants that we had waited hours for are only sold during breakfast!!! Now what do we do for dinner?!? More pastry!!! I got a cheese danish, Bobby got an apple turnover, Courtney and Alli had something chocolatety, and Erin had the king of all things sweet...the cinnamon bun!!! She ate almost the WHOLE thing! We were all so jealous of her, while she was eating it...of course, we all thought we'd get her leftovers...nope, not a chance...that thing was bigger than her and she ate it all!!!
Photo_041809_031.jpg

Our plan...now that we had refueled again...I should get a "Mom of the year Award"...two meals in a row of pastry! Our plan was to go do Space Mtn...just Bobby, Courtney and Alli...Erin and I would to do the TTA, and then whatever else we could find to do. We started with TTA...is there a rumor that it closed down that night?!? Is is going to be renovated...or is that it?!?:scared1: I love that ride! I know...what a shocker!?! Then we did COP...love that too...we chose to sit in the very front row and try to notice as many things as we could that we had never noticed before. That is pretty amazing...the way the stage and everything behind those curtains rotate...we could also see the people in the auditorium next to us...every time we moved. I just find it amazing that one man is responsible for all of WDW...COP was really his idea alone...just amazing!!! There were new tvs set up outside COP...talking about this ride but, we didn't have to wait long enough to watch them...oh well...next time!:thumbsup2
DSC08455.jpg

We headed off to Toontown...Erin walked through Minnie's house...there was no one else in there...she got to touch and sit on and try out...everything!!! By herself...it was empty! She loves tea parties and the gazebo the most...but, I know it won't be long before she outgrows all of that. She informed me while we were walking through...that she can't wear her Sleeping Beauty shirt to school anymore because "first graders don't like princesses anymore" So, she is now a closet princess. Right after that, my sweet little girl took off running out of Minnie's house...I saw her round the corner and run into Mickey's house...I ran half way through...couldn't find her...came back out the front...ran up and down the street...starting to panic! I went back into Mickey's house...calling her name...no answer! I was almost completely panicked that I couldn't find her. As I came running through Mickey's garage...screaming her name...she popped out and said "BOO!!!" She was hiding in Mickey's garage!!! So, I took her by the hand...we walked out of Toontown and over to a bench...outside of Space Mtn...where we had a nice chat about getting lost!
DSC08461.jpg

As we're sitting there...I'm thinking Space Mtn was only 40 minutes...it's been almost an hour...so, we are now on the hunt for the rest of the family. We found each other almost 45 minutes later...as they got in line, the wait for Space Mtn went from 40 minutes to 80 minutes! So, we RAN back across the park to Big Thunder Mtn...it was back up and running...we jumped into the FP line...and we all rode that! It is hard to stay mad when you're screaming on a rollercoaster! But, it was now 11:45pm...the park was closing...we had a great time! It was a beautiful day, we got this unexpected suprize...for FREE...so, other than some family dysfunction at the end of the night...after the getting lost discussion with Erin, I had the "where was your cell phone?!? discussion" with Bobby and the girls...we only have three cellphones between us!?!:confused3 We made our way toward Main St...listening to "When You Wish Upon a Star." I felt sooooo lucky...to have this great, unexpected little trip.
DSC08463.jpg

I took this picture because I wanted to capture the decor...that wasn't Christmas...I have just never seen MK at any other time of year...that I remember anyways, 1989 and 2001 were the other times we there at "not Christmas" and I don't remember what anything looked like then. I didn't realize when I took this picture that I had captured the clock...striking midnight...our 1-day tickets were now expired...we were leaving MK...felt a little like Cinderella when everything turns back into reality at midnight. Weird...kind of corny...I know! But, it was strange when I noticed it and there was Disney music in the background...so, I thought I'd share my true thoughts.:wizard:
DSC08464.jpg

We jumped on the resort monorail...just to take a quick stroll through the GF. We strolled through the lobby, out around the pool, out onto the beach...and then back on the monorail, and to the car. Can't wait to get back there!!! Not sure when that will be?!?:cloud9:
DSC08465.jpg

My view from the hammock...
DSC08466.jpg

UP NEXT: Swimming at POR...a little bit of the rest of Florida...did you know that there IS more to FL than just WDW?!?:rotfl:

Love all the F&G pictures from Epcot - it looks so pretty! I guess I'm going to have to add a spring trip in the future as well :thumbsup2

I LOVE the TTA and CoP too! I think the TTA is going to be closed off and on during the Space Mtn renovation that is supposed to last until late in the year - I'm just hoping they are both up and running by the time we go in December.

It sounds like your unexpected trip to Disney turned out great!

I loved your in-between whirlwind trip report! It does show how much fun you can have even if you don't have months to plan! (but I do enjoy all those months of planning)

LOVED your quick trip, you guys sound like you had a great time and really made the most of your time there!! Also, how awesome that you got free tickets!!!:thumbsup2 I'm so jealous you got to go back so soon and it looks like a such a wonderful trip with the girls, they look SO happy in all the pics and like they were really enjoying the magic again!!! And I was made mention in the quick TR, too!! ;) The monorails looks so cute all decorated...I can't wait to see them in person!!! Thanks for sharing, can't wait to hear the rest....there really is more to do in Florida other than Disney?!! I don't believe it....lol!!:rotfl:

great updates and pics.

Looks liek a fantastic trip so far.

tinkerbellsmum We did have a fantastic time!!! Great to have a surprize like that!!!

Khertz: I know you will have a great time...Christmas is so beautiful!!! Thanks for joining in!!!

Soonergirl I can now attest that WDW is great any time of year!!! Phew...I was nervous! Epcot was sooooo beautiful...loved all the gardens. I think we may have done TTA on the last night it was open...unknowingly!?! Hope they are back up and running by your trip!

Whogirlsmom Yes, an impromptu trip was very exciting...but, secretly, I really did miss all the planning...and countdown...and hoopla that goes with all the planning. I made one ADR...which we didn't even keep but, that was even a thrill!:rotfl:

tinkgurl Thank you for your kind words...and thanks for joining!!!

Kristen You will love the monorails and busses...the Mickey-head balloons are a cute touch. Yes, there really is more to do in FL...did you check out the Gasparilla Inn...Punta Cana is not in Mexico...it's in the Dominican Republic...LOL! Oops:confused3 I had another friend talk about that today...she loved it, too...so, now I'm up to three friends who have loved it. Another friend mentioned the Hilton in Jamaica. Lots of options!

scottyny Yes, it was a fantastic trip!!! We had a great time!

After a 21 hour...nonstop drive...and 3 parks in one day...we were ready for some rest and relaxation. We started the day, with breakfast at the Riverside Mill...for our favorite Mickey waffles!!!:lovestruc Then the plan was to spend aaall day lounging at the pool. Which we were quite good at. I just loved taking in POR...it even has a distinct smell...:cloud9:

Around 3pm, we decided that it was time to leave...we made our way toward the main building to change and then head off south to my parents. I probably have 100 pictures in this same spot but, I love it so much...I had to take just one more.
DSC08498.jpg

After Erin and I changed we had to make one last stop at the giftshop...she had wanted a charm bracelet when we were there in December...I was thinking she had enough STUFF from Disney. But, as soon as we got there on Friday nt...she asked for it again...and then all day Saturday...pleading...saying that she'd use her own money!:worship: I finally gave in when were ready to leave...she had picked out $40 worth of charms...so, I told her that if she paid for the bracelet and one charm...that I'd buy her two more...so, in order to decide...she did eeny meeny miny mo...
DSC08500.jpg

I was sad to leave Disney again...but, somehow I've learned to get over that...we are destined to go back...there is nowhere else I'd rather go...so, the question is not "if, we'll go back" it's "when we'll go back." The current plan is December 2010...but, I just got a PIN in my email...good through 2/18/09...so, if it is possible(according to the pocketbook)...I'm hoping we can go back from Thanksgiving day through the first Friday in December...I'll give you the details on that...once I have a chance to call. This is serious business...needs my full attention...no distractions...that has yet to happen!!!

Next up: Another side of FL! Who knew there was more to FL than WDW?!?:confused3

After a two hour drive southwest...we arrived in Englewood. My parents have a cute little house, in a community where they have met lots of new friends. It was so nice to see how much they love it...they were so obviously happy there!!! We made a quick change and headed to the beach for sunset...had wine, cheese, crackers, strawberries on the beach while the sun was setting. It was a beautiful night. Then we headed back to their house for my dad's cheeseburgers on the grill...aahhh...loved my dad's cheeseburgers more than ever...probably because we hadn't seen them for 4 months. The next day, we spent our day shopping with my mom; my DH played golf with my dad and we went out for a great Italian meal at Mama's Italian Restaurant. YUMMO!!! Best fettuccini I've ever had!!! It was an overcast, muggy day...so, I figured we'd get all the shopping out of the way...so, that we could spend the rest of the week at the beach. This was the entrance to Englewood Beach. Beautiful blue water, white sand...the girls played for hours in the water.

I used SPF8 on myself and came home with a very...VERY light tan. The girls used SPF50...they came home fried, with tie-dye looking sunburns.:confused3 So, on day three we went back to the beach but, we all huddled underneath one little umbrella...it was beautiful but, we didn't spend too much time there because noone wanted to leave the shade of the umbrella.

On day 4, we went to the Englewood community pool...I wish my town had a community pool. It was beautiful!!! Lots of chairs...giant umbrellas...pool toys...lap lanes. We spent a little while there...and took off for the rest of the day to Boca Grande. WOW!!! Is all I can say...such a beautiful place!!!
Everyone was following a manatee down the shore...this was my attempt at capturing a picture...pretty poor...I know!

We ate at a great restaurant that night called The StumpPass Grille. I loved it!!! It was outside seating, under a tiki hut roof...there were people there in barefeet, with their dogs lounging under the tables...it was very, very low key!!! At 7:55pm everyone grabbed their drinks and ran out to the dock to watch the sunset...they are huge on the west coast apparently.

More StumpPass Grille...

My Mom and the girls and I all got matching sweatshirts...my Dad said we looked like Easter eggs.

On Friday, we started our trek back home...we planned to leave around noon and stop at DTD, have a late lunch at the Earl of Sandwich, do a little shopping...and then drive until we had to stop...I was hoping to at least NC...we drove all the way straight through to Boston!:scared1: I thought my DH was crazy...and at certain points going through NY and CT I think he realized that it was not a very good idea, too. But, by the time we were that far north...it was early morning...too late to check into a hotel...so, we drove all the way home...

Going through the gates...again! I have never gotten a very good picture of the gates...so, I accomplished that!

12 Days of Christmas at DTD...Erin loved the Sleeping Beauty tree...and I loved the Tinkerbell tree...

Next up: December 2008 continues!!! What will I do with my coveted PIN?!?

Ahhhh, your beach pictures look heavenly! Such a beautiful place.

I can't believe you drove straight through going home! :scared1:

Hi Leighan!!
Great beach pics and I love the way that Stump Pass Grille sounds...what a neat place to eat!! You got some great pics of the girls on the beach and I love the Easter egg sweatshirts, too, cute!!:lovestruc

So Erin got her bracelet after all! What kind of charms did she pick out? Does she wear it every day?

And inquiring minds want to know.....did you call about your PIN!?!! LOL!!:rotfl:

We were whisked into the restaurant...Cinderella was waiting. The girls got to chat...princess to princess!princess: Lots of Christmas decorations...of course, it was beautiful. It was nice to finally be inside the castle...so mysterious...

129166.jpg

...the castle did not disappointed...it was just as grand and magnificient on the inside as you would expect it to be from looking at it from the outside...very regal. We were led up the winding staircase to the dining room...

129169.jpg

I could sort of see how the reservations were done...we were led to our table...the only 5 seats left in the place...the "show" had already started...the waitress came right over, as we were sitting to take our order...we hadn't even sat. So, while we made it for our ADR...we were really being rushed along to catch up with everyone else for that seating. There were only 3 selections to pick from...not a huge variety. Our two older girls were considered adults...so, between the 4 adults...we had three huge sandwiches...that were just ok...and pasta with veggies...which again was ok. Erin had the kids chicken with chocolate milk...which was basically the same as any other chicken and chocolate milk. However, once we were caught up with everyone else...the girls did a wish thing...with the fairy Godmother and made wishes with their "wands?" "wishsticks?" I don't know the proper terminology.
129172.jpg

The girls were very excited to be in the castle...up until then we had just stared at it from outside...it was like being behind the scenes. For, Erin...she really felt like she was ready to pack her bags and move right in! She really thinks her address should be 1 Main St. USA...and that her everyday attire should be a gown and a tiara.:cutie:
129175.jpg

The princesses were all making their way around...there was only one that Erin was really waiting for...OMG!!! There she is!!! Wait...come back...
129176.jpg

Lunch arrived...

But, so did the princesses...at our table...all of them...

Up next: ALL the princesses...
