Day 9 in Florida
1-1-02
Last day in Florida- we will head out this evening.

I had stayed up almost all night the night before - preparing to check out from the "townhouse" the next morning but also washing clothes, cleaning and preparing for the next day's plans also. We weren't sure what we would do because I certainly felt like we hadn't done enough WDW- but in the end the tickets made up our mind for us. We had 5 consecutive days to use on the US/IOA tickets which we'd only used 2 days and were leaving that day. So we hadn't really saved any money yet since you save after the 2nd day! And the WDW park hoppers the days are able to be used ANYTIME ever- and why waste that on a partial day? so we decided to go back to US/IOA.
No need to list everything we did there- we basically were a little more relaxed on that day only riding rides we really enjoyed (ofcourse Spiderman was top on that list- a few times LOL) and things we'd been unable to do the days before (like teranodons or whatever they are called. My son really wanted to do that but they don't have express on it and the lines were extremely long the days before- not too long that morning. That was the 2nd thing we did after spiderman ofcourse LOL) -oh and yes I had to do Hulk again- but DH didn't want to.

I did rent an ECV thing while there that day because with the blistered and tired feet, swollen knees, and even my back starting to ache (I have never had back/neck pain until after getting rearended July of 2001- but it does hurt now when I overexert myself and I guess walking nonstop for 9.5 days will do that to you. LOL) and it was okay. They only go walking speed so atleast I wasn't leaving my family constantly but I had to make my kids go behind me- then my husband with stroller.. single file (it was funny) to keep them from getting in front of me and stopping plus to get through the crowds. I didn't ride some of the rides also- I just stayed with my daughter in the stroller while the older two rode with DH on some rides. We had our most expensive meal while there-that day. Didn't bother either of us because it was our last day of vacation and we'd been pretty frugal up until that day. Plus I guess we knew we'd be eating fast food until we got home. It was delicious salad, turkey, chicken, ribs, roasted corn (yum!) and drink. We all shared and the turkey was the best. I can't remember the restaurant name though. :(

Kids had a lot of fun- but we had to head out around 4pm to get home at a decent time the next day so my husband could have a bit of downtime before returning to work on the 3rd. They were okay with this once reminded that once they got home they'd have more presents from us and we were sure Santa had visited also! :)

The drive home was not as good as the drive up there. Youngest was not in the mood to be in the carseat- even after her bedtime when she should have been asleep. Husband drove till nighttime but I never got any sleep because of the kids and so many stops/etc. -so I ended up driving all night REALLY tired. I had to do a lot of pinching, slapping myself and frequent stops to make sure I didn't get too tired. I even tried a Red Bull at a gas station because they recommended it saying the truck drivers use it all the time to stay awake. Didn't help me at all. I was really looking forward to DH taking over in the morning and I was able to sleep the last few hours until we got home. Took DH and the kids to McD's for lunch while I (ahem, santa LOL) put out all their presents under the tree and went to pick up the dog from boarding (he stayed at Pet Motel while we were gone LOL) and then they came home- opened presents -had a fun exhausting day riding new bikes, skates, etc and then we all crashed early- even me!
So tired.
Had a lot of fun... but maybe now you can see why I'm going back ...... so soon....... and alone.
LOL
I didn't get enough of WDW to suit my fancy. So WDW here I come! :)
The end.
Was it long enough for ya? :p

having fun is alot of work and I am always ready to just lay there and someone run over me.......thanks so much for sharing your vacation and your family with the trip reports board.......thanks again

God bless you Pumba, for having the tenacity and patience to actually read my reports AND not freak out that they were so long! LOL
I had actually waited so long to report our trip because I know how verbose I can be at times and as you can see now that I've done them... even when I'm TRYING not to type a real long report- it still comes out that way! LOL I can't help it. :)

I was really beat after our trip and I hope my reports don't make it sound like I am complaining about the whole thing. In rereading it -they might sound that way. But only because I was trying to only touch on certain things and not make them even LONGER by discussing every move we made every day... and making it shorter I think the "bad things" that happened stood out more. :( It really was a great trip. We all had fun and wouldn't change it for the world! Best holiday (if not comparing it with sharing it with extended family ofcourse- which we did not have that option this year anyway) ever for us!

I do feel like I need more though... but that's okay! I'm going to go again soon, solo, and catch up on everything I feel like I missed and also take things at a more relaxing pace (to a degree- I am a planner/organizer by nature! LOL But I'll be able to be more flexible because I'm alone and going during the value season will help with that also. I won't feel like I HAVE to rush there first thing in the morning or else it be extremely crowded- yanno?)

I can't wait! :) :) :)

Shelly, I read & enjoyed all your trip reports. Whew! You guys did a lot! No wonder you got blisters on your toes. We've not been to US/IoA yet, maybe next trip. My 8yr old granddaughter is scared to death of ET though. When I told her he was there she didn't want to go. I don't know why she's so scared of ET, any kind of alien though she's scared of. She's not scared of rides at all and will go on any of them. She and my DD even did that big sling shot thingy you and your husband did where you go up and up then pull the cord. She loved that!

Anyway, thanks for sharing your trip with us....post those pictures if you can!

Oh, have fun on your solo trip!

:D Thanks for taking the time to post your report! It was a lot of fun to read. Have fun on your solo trip and try to catch Fantasmic at MGM. It's unbelievable.

I loved all eight parts of your trip report! It sounds like you all had a great time. Try to go back the next time during a slow attendance time at Disney. You'll be amazed at the difference.

Thanks for posting!

Part of the reading is experiencing the Joy/Pain that a trip to WDW and USO/IOA ensues.

As for returning, chalk another one up to that notorious bug, Amourus Disneyalia, or the Love Bug!

As for long report, I have no trouble with long reports ;)

Will forward to reading about your solo trip!

I loved reading your reports!! I did not think that they were long or complaining. I think, as someone else has said, that you will be amazed at the difference on your solo trip!! It makes a real difference to go off-peak. Fantasmic is an absolute must!! I hope that you will post a trip report of your solo trip when you get back!

Thanks everyone!
I am really looking forward to this upcoming solo trip. SOMETIMES I think... that I might be a little lonely especially at night sleeping alone and all that (for so many nights! A night or two- no biggie... but over a week! egads! LOL) but I always counter it with hey... 9 nights to sleep uninterrupted by 2yr olds waking up and deciding it's time to get up for the day at 3am and no staying up late getting things done (which I usually do things like washing clothes/dishes/etc after they go to bed).
So I think I'll be alright. :)

I'm really looking forward to doing all the many many things we missed on our last trip. And even though they aren't there to enjoy them with me... I'll know a lot more about WDW and make our next trip to WDW even better! I'll know what not to miss! :)

Thanks again for your sweet posts. I'm glad no one thought my reports were too long or too "complaining"- because I didn't mean for them to be that way! So I'm glad you didn't see them that way. We really did have a great time! And the weather was totally cooperating with us on that trip! I hope I'm as lucky this time! I really really do not like being out when it's raining. I don't know why. LOL Maybe if it rains while I'm there I'll try to get over that and just enjoy myself even though I'm drenched? (but I am bringing a poncho cover thing and a small umbrella. HAHA)

Can't wait! ...... not much longer now! :)

I just have to say one thing...
For having three children (I only have one and stress out) you did NOT complain at all!! You and your family showed how well adjusted and mellow you are by just dealing with whatever came your way. I have read way many posts about bratty toddlers and young children who did not cope well with vacation situations that arose. I am glad your family had a wonderful vacation and I am sure you will have a memorable solo trip. Thank you for sharing so much detail and rest assured, long posts are the most treasured for us WDW junkies, we love them :Pinkbounc :D
Thanks again!

P.S. "townhouses" are very popular dwellings here in southern California, in fact, we used to live in one, I know what you mean about those stairs...

by yourself in the world - You EARNED it!

As a frequent solo traveler, I can tell you there Will be a period of adjustment - both to being there alone - and to being back home with the crowd and the work again.

Enjoy!

Lullubelle- thank you. NORMALLY I AM the type to "stress out" over things... but I did not want to do that on this trip so I forced myself to be as mellow as possible. LOL
I'm also the type of person to "plan" everything out to the minute- and this time I tried not to do that also. It really is easier to have a good time if you don't plan every single minute and then stress out if it doesn't go that way. Maybe someday I'll be able to implement this in my everyday life. LOL

My kids were pretty good I think- and them being bratty was definitely a concern. LOL They are average children- sometimes they can be total brats (a little on the spoiled side at times) and then other times they are perfect little angels. It all evens out in the wash though. LOL We really didn't have any "meltdown" points in our trip at all- which is really saying something especially with my youngest. Oh there were a few times she didn't want to be in the stroller but most times we just didn't fight the issue... only a few times we really didn't have time to take 2yr old size steps through the park. LOL But she did pretty good. A little whining here and there- but all it took from me was a reminder that we were at WDW and they BETTER appreciate it and have fun... reminding them that mommy had to wait THIRTY THREE years for her first time there- so look how lucky you are to be here now at your age! (then redirect their attention to something else fun or remind them we are going to do such and such) and that was that! :) My kids can be like all kids and do the whining/etc stuff but they are pretty good about listening to reason. If things are explained to them- they chill pretty quickly. Except for the baby so far but she's coming around- she's just getting to the age to understand what we're saying when we explain why this and that- yanno? LOL
(she's 2)

Oh look at me rambling again. *sigh*

I think I will enjoy the adjustment to being solo... I do not care to even THINK about the adjustment when I get back. I'm going to pretend you didn't remind me of that. (sticking fingers in my ears LALALALALALALA)
