Other parents of Wheelchair bound kids - does this happen to you?

Yes, this happens to us (DS is 10 y.o. and has CP and is to-die-for cute) a LOT! And I often feel awkward about it. It's rarely money -- more usually gifts. My habit has been to allow my DS to accept the gift nicely.

The time I was MOST touched by this was when we were late for the Electric Light Parade and a family moved back from the front to allow us to get in front of them so that DS could see the parace. I stood there with tears in my eyes, so tremendously moved that people could be so kind.

I've had cab drivers and skycaps refuse a tip from me, saying that I need it more than they do. Well, that's a kind gesture, but unnecessary. I have RA, but between dh and myself we bring in around $200k per year, so we really don't need charity. Like other posters, I just pass the gift on to a charity.
