My home resort is SSR and my use year starts in Sept. Can another member with a different home resort make a ressie for me at their home resort and then transfer it over to my name once it's the 9 month booking window for me??

EX: I want to stay at VWL but I've found it hard to get in their by the time I can call. Can a DVC member with VWL being their home resort book for me?

A little confusion here that I'm sure we can clear up.

Yes, another member can use their points to book a reservation for you at their home resort using the home resort booking advantage at 11 months.

No, you cannot transfer that reservation to charge your points and "release" the other members points back to them. Basically, to do that they cancel the other reservation and you can only book if there is availability and no wait list. At a busy time of the year such as you describe, you will no doubt run into a wait list. Besides, since it works the way I described it, there really is no point in having someone make a reservation in your name since you will never be able to use it (unless you rent the points from that member or arrange a "trade" of reservations that is mutually acceptable).

By the way, it is not a 9 month booking window for non-resort owners. It is a 7 month booking window that dates open up to owners at all DVC resorts. Just want to make sure you understand the guidelines.

Booking at VWL can be tough at certain times of the year as it's the smallest DVC resort. That's one of the reasons we bought there. Good luck with future efforts in booking...as long as you aren't looking at the busiest DVC times of the year, you'll probably enjoy quite a bit of success of booking other DVC resorts at the 7 month window.

Yes, another member can make a reservation for you at their home resort using their 11 month home resort priority booking window. That member would be using their points to make that reservation and would have Member Services put the reservations in your name from the beginning.

It would not be "transferred" to you at 7 months (the non-home resort booking window is 7 months out, not 9 months).

To compensate the owner who made the reservation for you, I believe most owners would want you to transfer an equal amount of SSR points into their account to make up for the points they used to make the reservation for you. Or have you book them a reservation at SSR using the same amount of points during your home resort priority window.

Not that I want to open up the issue, but with the transfer rule being enforced by DVC now (1 per year) I'm thinking transactions like this will be harder to come by.

And, just to stir things up even more, I believe it will be harder for SSR owners to "trade" their points with owners of the smaller resorts. JMO!

The other option is to rent points from a member who owns at the VWL. Let's not even go there! ;)

It will be difficult for members who don't own VWL to get reservations at certain times of the year. The same is true for BWV and BCV.

You said, "by the time I can call." Does that mean you are calling the exact day the 7 month window opens? And calling each day after that to try and make your reservation day-by-day? Or are you trying to make the reservation later...at say...3 months for example, because that's when you can call? Or were you referring to the DVC booking window of 7 months for non-owners as the limitation on the time you can call?

WOW! This is confusing! I had a brain fart and forgot that it was a 7 month window. I'm beginning to think that I need to save some $$$ and buy a VWL resale someday.

thanks for all the advice!!
