I am posting in the Families board because I know there are a lot of women here.

My question..

Have any of you experienced unexplained severe bleeding? What was the cause?

This happened to me Friday night. I went to the ER. After having blood work and exam they told me everything came back normal and to follow up with my Ob/Gyn on Monday. They ruled out miscarriage. pg test was neg.

So hear I sit..all weekend wondering what could be wrong with me. Anyone have any experiences or thoughts?

Thanks!:

Just updating.

Too make a very long story short. Ended up in the Hospital for an emergency D and C. I a lot of bleeding and needed a blood transfusion (2 bags)

I am home now, but I have no answers. Doctors don't know why this happened. They didn't see anything in there like cysts, polyps, etc. They don't know if it will happen again. They put me on hormone pills for a couple of weeks to see what happens. Also, all blood, urine and pathology came back normal.

So now I sit home and rest. I am very weak from the loss of blood.

Thanks for all the good thoughts.

I have had the same experience. Without getting too graphic...very sudden, large amounts, etc. It got so bad that I literally could not leave the house for the first day or two. My doc ordered an ultrasound. Turns out I have uterine fibroids. Now I have to take birth control pills to regulate the bleeding. I haven't had any problems since I started on the pill.

HTH

I don't have any experience (other than a miscarriage), but you said the pregnancy test was negative: did they do a urine test or check your HCG levels from a blood sample?

My thought that if it was a urine test & you were pregnant, your HCG levels may have dropped to an undetectable level in your urine.

Just a thought - hope you get some answers from your OB/GYN.

How old are you? Do you normally have problems with your periods? It would be helpful to know these things then maybe we could make suggestions.

If you normally don't have problems then this could have been a miscarriage or it could have been a ruptured cyst, a tumor or a number of other things. Maybe your doctor will be able to help you. Take care of yourself. Manytimes heavy bleeding can be controlled by vitamins, iron, exercise and improving your eating habits.

I started out with pretty normal periods but the older I got the longer and stronger they got, and I was experiencing severe pain at ovulation and period time. I ended up having a hysterectomy at 34. I was all for it because I was done having kids and they left one ovary so I didn't go into menopause. I don't know what the answer is but I think you sould hit your GYN. Have you had pain leading up to this? It could be a number of things but until you really get checked out you won't know. If this is your first major symptom it could be the warning signs of something seriously wrong or it could just be a flucky kind of thing. Go to the doctor and make sure they really run some tests to rule out any cancers or serious problems. I don't mean to scare you but so many female cancers go undetected because there aren't any outward symptoms until it's already getting bad. More then likely it's nothing major but it's better to be safe then sorry. I hope you find an answer! Good luck.

I had a cyst on my ovary rupture and had sudden bleeding because of it. I had no pain or anything else leading up to the bleeding. I was told that there is nothing they do for it and that it was not harmful, that sometimes it just happens and is rather common. It's probably best to follow-up with your doctor to be sure that everything is ok in your case. Good luck. :flower3:

My SIL had severe bleeding, but I don't know if it was while she was menstruating or not, but it was pallups. She had a minimally invasive procedure at her doctor's office and it stopped the bleeding. I could find out when she had her bleeding if you want me to.

Just wanted to wish you the best of health.
Please follow up, so often we "women" get caught up in the day to day and put ourselves last on the list. Don't let this fall thru the cracks and good luck!

I've always had unusual periods. If i'm not on the pill I can bleed if the wind blows the wrong way. Are you under a lot of stress? One time I stopped having a period for a year because of stress. i'm sure everything is fine though. Good luck

I have found the older I get the more I bleed each month. While I still only go 4-5 days, the first two days I am doing good if I can go over an hour without going to the bathroom.

If they have ruled out m/c. Possible ovarian cyst or endometriosis. Other than that I am at a loss. Good luck and feel better.

A friend on mine had this from using the implant type birth control. She was fine when she kept it in but when she had it removed because she wanted a different type she ended up in the ER hemorrhaging.

I hope everything goes ok.
