I have 2 girls, ages 6 and 8. They are still very much into barbies, American Girl, etc.... and not so much into video games although they both have a DS. When they first got their DS's last spring, it was almost impossible to pry them away from the games :rotfl: :rotfl: Now, they hardly ever get played with.....

Today I was in Target and they got 3 Wii's in. I bought one spur of the moment thinking it would be a family Christmas present (I'm sure I might want to add on the Wii fit) because every place around here is always out of stock still....

For those of you with Wii's, do your kids LOVE it or does it lose it's appeal like a DS? I just don't want to make a stupid purchase when I still have a chance to bring it back if I've made a mistake....

If I am keeping it, please give me some pointers on what I need in addition to this console, 1 numchuck, and 1 remote.... We'll probably buy the Wii fit too. Are there any really good games for girls my DD"s ages??? Any recommendations???

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!! I'm Wii-ignorant I guess :confused3  :confused3

You will all love the Wii. My husband bought one on a whim, he said it was for me, he conveniently bought Guitar Hero. right, it's for me. whatever.:confused3 it came with Wii sports, which is pretty fun. I have ds8 and dd 5. They love it. We bought Mario Kart, it goes up to 4 players, so you can all play. It only comes with one wheel, you can buy extra wheels anywhere they sell the Wii. I got the Wii fit and love it! I can workout anytime I want to, and I really get a good work out! My ds even loves it. I would suggest you get at least one more controller, they're around $40. But ifyou buy Wii Play, it's a game that comes w/an extra controller that has some really fun games on it, that will eliminate any bickering over the controller. The Wii also uses a Game Cube controller, you can find those at Game Stop or vintage Stock. we have alot of fun with ours. We've had it since around July and play with it several days a week. I would suggest renting games at blockbuster before buying them. DH made the mistake of buying one w/o really looking at it and it was terrible and we were stuck w/it. You can try out lots of games that way w/o making a serious $50 commitment. We have all really enjoyed it, I think your whole family will like it and be glad you got it. :woohoo: Mario Kart and Wii Fit are pretty hard to find, so keep your eye on the Sunday ads, whoever has it listed will have at least a few in store, so check them then. good luck and enjoy your new present!:goodvibes

I was in Best Buy yesterday and they had it so I bought it. My DD12 said she wanted it, I'm not sure if my DD14 is interested or not. I figured I'd buy it and if I decide not to keep it I'll just bring it back. I got the extra controller and something to make them wireless (??). It came as a bundle with a game, too. I also got the Wii Fit since they had it. Now I need to tell DH and see if he thinks we should keep it. Or I could make it his gift, too.

Love it!!!!!! DH got it for himself and we all play it. Mario kart is a great game to play with the family. DD14 loves wii ski and DS10 loves the sport games. DH got me the fit board for mother's day (I guess that was a hint) I love the wii fit. You do get a good work out from it. Have fun and enjoy.

Ours has been used so much...we know have 2:confused3 . DD10 plays it a lot and depending on the game works up a sweat. OT-i love the fact that while she/we are playing the wii, we aren't necessarily sitting on the couch vegging, but are active.

This week Target also has their games buy2get1 free (19.99-49.99). We have the Hannah Montana game (she plays alot), HSM sing-it (original), Little League World Series (but she also plays Travel Softball), lots of different Mario games. I could go on forever...we have a ton.

I ordered the new Disney Think Fast Trivia game from Amazon because it was 39.99 (the cheapest I'd seen) for this x-mas as a family game. There is also a new Sing-it out with lots of different Disney singers/songs, and HSM3 too.

I am an Animal Crossing addict. I finished it on the x-box 360 and am almost done with the NinDS version. Animal Crossing for the wii is coming out soon and DH pre-ordered that one too.

We have extra controllers and numchucks. I would suggest picking up extra AA batteries. We go through those like there is no tomorrow.

My kids are 7 and 3. They almost never play the Wii. It is too difficult for my 3 year old and my 7 year old will only play when someone will play with him (i.e. his friends or myself). My kids are also all about the DS.

However, I enjoy playing it myself and I can assure you, even the sports game that comes with it will get plenty of play.
