OT: what to do for the anniversary of Dh's GF's death?

I just got off the phone withDH I asked him how his day was going and he told me today is a very bad day. And he told me today was the day his grandfather died. I guess he didn't want to talk about it which is why he didn't tell me it was coming up. I wasn't with him when it happened, but I heard DH went off the deep end and ran away for a month (his grandparents are more like his parents). I'd like to do a little something for his grandmother and him. Any ideas on thoughtful things that won't bring tears?

When I read the thread title I thought you were talking about your DH"s girlfriend

I would probably not do anything for DH if it bothers him this much and doesn't want to talk about it. If grandfather is buried nearby, I'd go visit the gravesite myself and bring flowers. If you go to church, I'd sign up for flowers in grandfather's memory or ask that a mass be dedicated to him.
