OT: What Special things do you do with your small kids on New Years Eve??

I know, we don't go out NYE so I was thinking we would do something special at home. We bought party poppers, hats, and snacks..and we will watch the ball drop. Oh and i got "fancy" glasses and sparkling cider.LOL I think dd will get a kick out of that. But i was just curious what others did.

My kids are 5 and 7, and would never make it to midnight! But we do order a special dinner, which we enjoy by candlelight in the dining room (as opposed to our usual suppers in the breakfast nook), on the good china.

After dinner, we play boardgames of their choosing (usually it's something they got for Christmas), and have a nice dessert. We listen to music and just spend time enjoying each other's company. We let the kids stay up until about 9-ish.

Nothing wild or raucous, but the kids enjoy it, and it still gets them to bed at a reasonable hour, and leaves some time for DH and me to have some time together as well.

Happy New Year!

My best New Years Eve memories are of all the years my brother and sister and I stayed up until midnight playing Monopoly with my parents. It was our tradition from the time we were very little until we were old enough to have parties of our own to go to. We would get lots of snacks, play Monopoly, and then, just before midnight, we'd turn on the TV and watch the ball drop. I've had lots of "different" kinds of fun on lots of different New Year's Eve's in the years since then, but those still stand out as the very best in my memory.

This year we're having a part at our house. Nothing wild, just a few good old friends we don't get too see all that often anymore. Our little guy will be there and several of the others will have their kids, so they can all play together. I have absolutely no doubt that our 3 year old will last until midnight. He's a total night owl and has closed down several of the Disney Halloween and Christmas parties and late night EMHs. He's really excited about wearing his party hat and blowing his horn at midnight!

We do a party with friends with kids also. We get to cook out and chat, while the kids play. If the kids are doing well, we stay through the ball-drop. If not, we pack up and go home. They always get very excited about this party.

With our youngest (9, 8 and 6) we go to a restaurant that does a "kids New Years Eve package". Its really cute. They have noisemakers on the tables, hats and blowers, the kids get "fake champagne" in champagne glasses and they do a New Years countdown every hour! By the time the dinner is over the kids really believe they've seen the new year come in and are ready for bed!

My little guy just turned 4 but we let him stay up on special occasions. I got us New Year hats & horns & plastic champagne glasses. Also I bought him sparkling grape cider that's non-alcoholic. I also got some sparklers & some fireworks that I know he'll love & hopefully he'll stay up for some of the New Year's shows & I make a special meal. It's just me my DH & DS & lots of music !

:dance3:

a little late to be posting this, but you could probably find it on sale now since it's after Christmas...we started a tradition of building a gingerbread house (from a pre-baked kit) on New Year's Eve. We've done that since DS was 2 (he's now 5). It's a special thing that we only do on New Year's Eve. He really enjoys it.

Last year when he was 4, we had family visiting and we had a bunch of Hawaiian leius (sp???), hats and noisemakers as well as champagne for the grownups and sparkling grape juice for the kids and anyone else who prefers it. He had a ball running around yelling Happy New Year and blowing the noisemaker and throwing streamers in our front yard (at 8 pm).

We always do the blowers and party hats. We have sparkling grape juice. Dinner is sometimes a pizza but in the last few years the kids have started wanting finger foods....we do a "buffet'. We usually play games and or watch videos and part of New Year's Rocking Eve!

We do much of the same as the other posters. We also bought some silly string. Tonight we are having a movie nightpopcorn:: . DD4 picked Mermaidia and Cars. We are also making our pizzas and ice cream sundaes. There is no way that DD4 and DD17months will make it to midnight so we won't even try!

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!

Put them to bed at 9:30, neither could care less about NYE, as we do a party to watch the Rose Parade tommorrow. Usually cook a breakfast strada and baked french toast, some bacon, fruit salad & homemade cin. rolls. Crack open more bubbly to make Mimosas for the grown ups.

DH then handles the "football" food for dinner, shrimp, wings & subs(his contribution to the feeding of the masses during the festive season).
