Hi All ~ Let's inspire people to donate time, things, money!

What is your favourite charity?

Here my top donations!

1. Sick Kids
2. Heart & Stroke
3. Goodwill
4. Ronald McDonald House
5. Sally Ann
6. Red Cross
7. Terry Fox

Blessings, Sandra

Stephen Lewis Foundation

Goodwill

Heart and Stroke society

Here are mine:

1. Churches-we support 2 different churches
2. Canadian Cancer Society via many ways including Terry Fox
3. Heart and Stroke
4. Save a Family Plan
5. Amabile Youth Singers (choir that my girls are involved with)
4. and apparently 2 of 3 in post-secondary feel that I am their charitable donor (maybe that should be number 1, since that's where most of my money goes!)

(there are more, but I'd have to check my Quicken to remember :rotfl: )

My main charity is Canadian Cancer Society.
I also give time (and food) to the Food Bank and United Way.

We donate money to the United Way because it is a blanket organization and they help a variety of organizations. We also donate money to Stars Air Ambulance....god forbid we ever need to use it! We also donate time, money and goods to the Salvation Army.

Some people here already know that I dedicate a lot of my time and energy to the Hospital for Sick Kids. :)

Do you have some Disney soaps/shampoos left over from your recent stay at a Disney destination and want to help? Ask me how. :thumbsup2

My favourite charity is Make a Wish Foundation. Reason being is I know that my money goes to something very important to me; fullfilling the dream of an ill child. Did you know that the number one dream request of children for Make a Wish is trips to DL and WDW? Make a Wish has been providing 'Years of a Million Dreams' loooong before Disney has. :goodvibes

United Way.

They support so many charitable organizations.

They also make it super easy for me to donate as I work for the federal government and during their campaign (September - October) you can sign up for a payroll deduction so my charitable donation is taken care of for the year and I don't really notice it because I never actually have the money in my hand.

We just sponsored a little girl from India. Her birth date happens to be our anniversary.
We saw World Vision at the mall. Felt amazing about doing it. Hope we can make a difference in her life.

We give to The Boys and Girls club ( specifically to the one I went to when I was a kid , the east kawanis boys and girls club in Hamilton)
Canadian Cancer assistance program
MAC aids program( VIVA GLAM) ( ok, so I buy the lipstick that all proceeds go to AIDS research but really it is still charity) Also I have bought a lot of the Red line from the Gap and am awaiting the arrival of my Red converse Chuck Taylors..

We give to the charities that benefit kids like my daughter...
Safehaven - A respite provider for children with severe & multiple disabilities
Easter Seals - helps with equip. costs and camp programs for disabled kids
A World of DReams - A wish foundation that grants even non-verbal kids dreams.

Can't give to Sick Kids as we are sueing them for the disabilities that my oldest daughter incurred awaiting medical attention in their ER waiting room...... life long dependency on others, non-verbal, and non-mobile permanently....

My mom also has a FOSTER CHILD through WORLD VISION....

My main charity is Canadian Cancer Society.
I also give time (and food) to the Food Bank and United Way.

We are the same way. There have been so many times this year when we gave to the Cancer Society - a shame but a need.

Autism Society (Time)
United Way (Money)
The Lung Association (Time)

I'd like to give to our local animal shelter, but I can't afford to give any more money, and because I am a p/t university student (I work full time), I don't have much time left with everything else going on. Quality over quantity I guess :thumbsup2

Ours are: Credit Valley Hospital (it's our local hospital, my dad was treated for cancer there and all 3 of my girls were born there); Heart and Stroke (my dad had a heart attack and my MIL and BIL, who was only 32, both died of strokes), Cancer Society (my dad died with cancer) and Goodwill.

1. Sick Kids Hospital - Saved our son's life!
2. Children's Wish - Gave our son his dream to go to Disney!
3. Camp Trillium - Camp for children & families dealing with childhood cancer!
4. Heart & stroke foundation
5. Royal Victoria Hospital - Cancer Care Centre Campaign

I am a volunteer with Dreams Take Flight. Every year we take 200+ disadvantaged kids to Disney World for the day. It is mostly Air Canada employees that donate their time to raise all the money etc. We work with all kinds of other charities to select the children.

Last year I had the privillage to go on the trip as a group leader. Wow, can't really describe the expereince it was very moving. These kids are so amazing and many have such a hard lfe.

I have been to the park many times but this was a very different Disney expereince.

Went home and hugged my own kid and cried myself to sleep.

My 2 boys were both born at Credit Valley too.
Wondering if anyone who helped World Vision has ever written to their foster child and got a reply back?

We just sponsored a little girl from India. Her birth date happens to be our anniversary.
We saw World Vision at the mall. Felt amazing about doing it. Hope we can make a difference in her life.

I have also sponsored a little girl from India. She is 5 years old and I have gotten a couple letters from her.
I also have donated to the Humane Society, Make a Wish Foundation and am volunteering at a senior's home.

Hugs

Donated a lot in the last few years to Princess Margaret Hospital through the Weekend to End Breast Cancer because my mom is a survivor. Also Canadian Cancer Society. Dh donates to United Way through his paycheques at work. We also donate food to the Food Bank almost every grocery trip (the prepackaged bags from the grocery store that you can buy).

I'm also on the charities committee at work and I get a lot of satisfaction from that. We concentrate a lot on Camp Bucko (burn camp for kids in Ontario) and in the past have also done a lot with Camp Oochigeas (the only cancer camp in Ontario where kids can go and still have their chemo treatments at camp). This year our charity of focus will be Children's Wish Foundation and locally Grand River Hospital Cancer Clinic in Kitchener.

We're not doing a firefighter calendar this year (we try every other year) and the proceeds usually get split between local charities. It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun.

Wow!! I love this post!! It is so important to "spread the wealth" around...be it by donation of money or donation of time!!

We give to our church weekly; we sponsor five children on a monthly basis....India, Libya, Ecudor & 2 in DR....two with Compassion Canada & three with World Vision & yes, we have heard from all five through the years!!; we also support various other organizations through the year like Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Foundation & Terry Fox. I also volunteer with our church & my son's school & I sit on the board at our local Food Bank!

I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging.....I'm not!!! We are very blessed & feel very priviledged to share that blessing with others!!

In no particular order...
BC Cancer Society, Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cancer
Diabetes
BC Childrens Hospital
United Way through payroll deduction
