OT ~ What is the best Iphone 4 case to buy?

So here's the story....

We are considering upgrading to a smart phone and getting the Iphone 4. We need a good case for it and are not sure what to buy?

The guy at verizon made me feel like I had to buy what they sell and if I didn't and dropped it I would most likely brake it cause they are made of glass. He made it sound like they have the superior cases and we should get them through them. they are also $50 a piece!

Because we know nothing about this tech stuff we need your help!!!

We need one that would protect it well as my dh works in a machine shop.

So, can you help?

I would not buy the overpriced cases at the cell phone store.

The iPhone 4 is indeed made of glass and will break if you drop it. However, I have dropped mine plenty and it hasn't broken lol.

The Lifeproof cases and Otterbox Defender cases consistently get good reviews.

Neither are cheap, but if you shop around the internet you should be able to find a decent deal.

I agree with the PP, lifeproof and otterbox are probably the most well known and have worked for us. You can get them much cheaper on Amazon than at the store.

I love my Otterbox Commuter case. It's protective without being too bulky. And yes, I have dropped the phone with the case on and it did not break.

ETA: You should MAKE SURE that you get the right case for your phone. The iPhone changed in design between the 4 and the 4s so a iPhone 4s case won't fit a iPhone 4 and visa versa.

Same here. I have the Otterbox Commuter and really like it.

My DS has the Otterbox Defender on his iphone and I swear that thing weighs 5 lbs!

Agree with this. Got my Otterbox on Amazon and saved over 25.00!!! I love mine and feel much safer with the case on. My husband and I got our phones at the same time but he didn't want a case. 9 days later, he dropped it on the floor and shattered the screen. No insurance so he's back to his old phone. Get a case for sure!

Search back in threads on the Dis a few weeks; there are companies out there who will repair the screen for MUCH less than Apple will.



OP I like my lifeproof, and now that the 4 is so "old" the prices are coming down. I paid $80 just back a few months ago, and now they are in the $40 range.

Just FYI- I would order the case from amazon directly, not one of the marketplace sellers. There have been reports of fake otterbox and lifeproof cases being sold on Amazon's marketplace. Those shipped directly from Amazon are good, though.

If you buy an iPhone, I would also buy the otter box defender case for it too,
Without it, it will eventually be dropped and break. The defender case is what I suggest. These are most durable, have screen protector, and offer the most protection.
Just be careful of WHERE you buy otter box cases from online. Cuz, most of them. Including those for sale on EBay and Amaxon are not the real thing. Oh, they look like the real thing, and they will be represented like the real thing, but most are not.
We bought 5 iPhones just a few weeks ago, we also bought 5 otter box defender cases. The otter boxes are expensive, but we figured it was well worth the price if it protects, and saves our phones from damage!!
I bought 1 otter box online, when it came, I realized it was a fake,
There are ways to tell if they are not real. Do a google search.
Would suggest just buying them from Verizon, or best buy. And, defender, nt commuter. Defender offers much better protection. Trust me, the defender is extremely tough!!! They tested these, by using a phone inside a defender case as a hockey puck! The phone was perfect when done!
