Our family tagged along with DH to a convention in NYC a few years ago. We stayed at the Park Central (
www.parkcentralny.com). It's catty-corner to Carnegie Hall, three blocks from Central Park, a half-block from a subway station, and no more than a 10-minute walk to Times Square. The Hard Rock Cafe was around the corner, and a Pick-a-Bagel place was right next door for quick, healthy, inexpensive food.
I can't say the accommodations were fantastic, but to be fair, the hotel was in the middle of a renovation and we got one of the pre-renovation rooms. To put it another way, the hotel room would probably cost $85-$90 a night anywhere in the middle of the country.

However, the location was PERFECT for us. I have no idea what price range it was, because we were getting convention rates anyway.
Good luck with whatever you decide. Have a WONDERFUL trip!!!!!
