I know there are often lots of threads about DC and I have been reading them and using all your hints and advice for our quick trip there next week. :cool1:

Normally I would have had everything booked for weeks now...but with the shutdown possibility, I waited to book the hotel but have been RESEARCHING and looking. I really wanted to try to keep the hotel to about $100 or less since we are trying to do this very budget, and that is HARD to find in DC I have found. I tried pricelining a few different areas with no success for what I was willing to pay for an unknown hotel. We are going Thurs, Fri and Sat nights which tend to be less expensive in DC...but was still having trouble. Finally, last night I found something I am VERY pleased with.

It is the Washington Marriott Wardman Park. Travelzoo has a deal right now for $99 a night...but when I clicked through to the hotel's own website - there were other package deals listed. For only $10 more, there was a deal with self parking INCLUDED. Normally costs $25 a night. Tripadvisor has mostly very positive reviews (I always expect a couple bad ones) and most of the negatives sited are that it's too big of a hotel, which I can handle. There is a metro stop right around the corner and is walking distance to the zoo, which we plan on going to anyway. The package also includes kids eating free - so we likely will take advantage of the breakfast buffet once since we can get them for free.

Anyway, just thought I'd share in case anyone else was having a tough time finding ANYTHING 3 star or above that would be at or around $100 with parking included in that and a good location. $109 was the best I could do.

Only negative is that the pool is only seasonal....I was hoping to find a heated or indoor one - but we LIKELY wouldn't have had much time for it anyway - so no big deal.

The Wardman is a great hotel. Can't beat walking to the Zoo and the close Metro stop. If you like middle eastern food, check out Lebanese Taverna http://www.lebanesetaverna.com/restaurants/dc/ It is basically across the street from the hotel.

The hotel is pretty big but I love the convenience of the Metro and Zoo. I am planning on staying there again. Next to the Taverna I believe there are a few other restaurants. We ate at Les Petit Plats for a nice lunch and then walked to the zoo. Have fun! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the restaurant suggestions guys! I think we will be very happy with this and I think it is just as good as any of the Priceline deals I MIGHT have gotten - but with this one I KNOW I've got a great hotel.

Cleveland Park is also a great place to eat...about a 10-15 minute walk north on Connecticut Avenue from the Marriott Wardman Park(or the next metro stop).

There's a new restaurant in Cleveland Park that getting great reviews and is appropriate for this board: a budget steakhouse: Medium Rare.

If you're looking for restaurant suggestions, let me know. I lived in Cleveland Park for 14 years before I moved a few neighborhoods over last fall.

Great location! My organization holds a conference in the hotel every year. It's hard to beat the metro access. Please just note that since it's one of those large, city hotels, everything inside the hotel is very expensive ($4 for a cup of tea!). There's a 7/11 across from the zoo for the same little items you'll find in the hotel's gift shop, and plenty of restaurants that will be a better deal than the hotel.

I also live locally. You'll have plenty to do in three days, but let me know if you need any local travel tips.

THANK YOU we are going Sat through Tuesday and I just booked that hotel. You saved me hours or searching because I wanted the same thing a hotel for around 100.00, they didn't give me the option for parking.

I have stayed at that hotel before it's nice.

Going to the White House Egg Roll....can't wait!
