SO I have this bee in my bonnet to buy DD a little tie dye dress :hippie: for the summer. Does anyone know where to get a quality hand-dyed tie dye dress for little girls? I'd much rather buy from a fellow mom than a big corporation. I've tried google but I'm either getting pricey boutiques and wholesalers. I know there are other mama's out there that do this as a hobby or small business... I just can't find any!

Anyone know of somewhere I can find something like this? :cloud9:

Thanks!!

I'm sorry I don't have any names of people or businesses that do them, but I know I've seen them at craft fairs and festivals where there are vendors many times. Maybe check out a local craft festival?

You can make them yourself and it's a pretty fun thing to do with a few friends! We made mickey head shirts/skirts and all kinds of things before our last trip, there's a thread on how to do it here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1210609

If you use good quality dye (Dharma Trading Co.) and follow the directions, you can get really great tie dye! Here are some of ours...

Ohhh you did an awesome job!! I've seen that thread a few times and thought, nawwww mine would probably end up crappy. Yours rock! Maybe I will try it. Did you have fun doing it? Was it super messy, or was it manageable?
Thanks for the pics!! :)

Oh I wish we had more of those around here. I looooove craft fairs/festivals. Great idea! :)

board keeps timing out when I try to reply!

It was messy and more work than we thought, but it was SO worth it and we still wear our shirts all the time. Since we did it with friends, it made it more enjoyable. It took a few hours all together and then you have to put them in ziplocks and let them sit for about 24 hours. The anticipation is a killer, waiting to see what they will look like! The attention we got at the parks was amazing, people walking up asking us where we bought the shirts, etc. and being amazed that we did it ourselves.

The mickey heads took some prep b/c you have to baste stitch around a mickey head you have drawn onto the shirt with floss and pull it tight, but they came out really great. I think it was because we used the good dye and followed ALL the directions (used Urea, etc.) when some people just use the dye and don't follow each step.

We will be doing it again for this upcoming trip, but I have to talk my teen boys, my husband, AND my father-in-law into wearing them! NOT an easy feat!

It keeps timing out on me also. Maybe that's my sign to put the computer down.

I think I might give it a try when the weather warms up. It definitely looks like an outdoor activity!

That's so cool-- your whole family wearing them! You can do it! :)

Hi friend,
If you travel up the turnpike to the pocono's and get off exit I 89 East, to the Blakeslee corners, there is a great tie dye shop. I use to buy for dd there. Candle shop too if I remember. It is next to the Bike shop.
There are great attractions in the area too.

Oh!! Is it Tie Dye Dave's, or is it the one near Friendlys? (Living Dyes??) I grew up in Scranton, and my mom and I frequented the Tannersville outlets and nearby stores. We're actually going up to the Great Wolf in early April, I'm going to check it out.

Thanks for the reminder :)

DB & DSIL had a tie-dye wedding - she made all the dresses and shirts - including her wedding dress  (this was in 2003 BTW). She continues to make lots of shirts, etc. Has made a set for my kids. She says whatever you do buy high quality dye and supplies, but actually recommends Hanes Tagless 100% cotton Ts for the actual shirts; the kind you buy in three packs for to use as undershirts. She buys all her supplies from Dharma Trading (dharmatrading.com) I have to say the colors have the nicest lasting quality of any shirts I have ever seen. The ones she made for my kids have color that's close to the original and they were made 4 years ago.

Have you tried www.etsy.com? There are tons of artisans there, I'm sure you can find one who makes cool tie dyes.

I just did! I didn't think of etsy for things like tie dye... I always think jewelry. I did find a cute one, but I'm a little apprehensive because she said the 2T runs really short. I don't want DD's tooshie hanging out. (Hmm.. but I could put some rumba panties underneath over her diaper, that could be cute..) It's $20, which isn't bad, but I usually don't spend $20 on one single piece of clothing for her since she grows like a lil weed. :lmao:

Ohhh that's so neat. I love to hear of "offbeat" weddings. Big :thumbsup2 in my book!

Hm... Hanes Tagless tees, that's easy enough. Dharma Trading Co seems to be really reputable as far as their dyes. I'm going to give it a shot-- I might buy one first though, just in case I screw up! :rotfl:

Very cool. Thank you!

I am not sure of the name, I don't even know if that area has a Friendly's :confused3 It has been 6 years since I was up there. It is off I 80 in Blakesly cornors, before the tannersville exit. Which resort is the Great wolve lodge? Split Rock ? I have a 10% code....

This shop is right on 115 where Rt 209 crosses. There is a strip mall there I think that has flea markets. It is road On the way to the race track at Long Pond.
Have fun!

Hmm... that's neither of the shops I was thinking of! I'll have to take a ride down there when we go. I was thinking of the Friendly's in Tannersville. Ohh! I know exactly where that is now that I look at a map. Cool. I'm going to check it out.

Thanks for the code for Split Rock, but dang! it's expensive even with a code. Heh, I remember miniature golfing there as a teenager. I've wanted to go and just check out their waterpark, but we've just never made it up there. We've done Great Wolf twice so far, and we like it, and we got a good deal on the room. Sometimes that place gets ridiculously expensive! I can't believe the rates for Easter weekend, I think it's like $469 a night!!:scared1: Oh, and Great Wolf is right off of 611, right after the Scotrun exit off of 80, a sneeze away from the Scotrun Diner, and the Ham and Eggs in the Pan place. (Can you tell I drive using landmarks?)
