OT - Sulfer Stains

So, I thought since you Dissers tend to know everything about anything, I'd ask a cleaning question.. We use well water at our house which has a high sulfer content. It doesn't smell or anything like that, but it has stained the tub an AWFUL orangey color. The tub is cream and the stain is just so painfully obvious. I've tried bleach, scrubbing bubbles, comet.. I just don't know what else to try! It's not a ceramic, but it's that plastic-ish new type of material that goes right over the old tub. The sinks are ceramic and don't have any stains.

Any ideas?

Try going to a local hardware store and get a product called Whink or wink. It's GREAT! We had to use it when we had a house with a similar issue. Just be VERY careful and make sure you use it in a well ventilated area...........

Are you sure it is Sulfur? Sounds Like Iron...we have sulfur and iron...the iron is orange and the sulfur smells. We have an Water Softener and a filter for the sulfur..it works well. Try Lime away for the iron.

My Mom swears by Zud. She said you really have to scrub but it gets those stains out well.

We have this exact problem. The BEST product I have found for this is Iron Out. It works great on pretty much everything from the white laundry(which the iron stains badly)to household cleaning. The one thign I can tell you,tho,is to make sure there is good ventilation.

I've used Iron Out too in a previous house. Also noted the stained ring in the toilet that wouldn't come out. DH finally got a pumice stone and very carfully rubbed it out.
Long term solution to keep them from coming back is cleaning often and treating the H2o coming into your home.
Ughhh, I so remember the smell of rotten eggs
