My youngest has developed a big time case of stranger anxiety. If anyone new even attempts to look or talk to him he starts crying and reaching for me. My older two never really went through this so I am perplexed. We will be at DW in May (so he will be about 10 months) will this have passed by then typically? I'm afraid he's going to be overwhelmed by the people and characters. Anyone else have any experiences with this at the world.
Ideas, tips, etc...?

TIA

It is very common for kids at that age to act that way. My daughter didn't want anyone but Mommy for almost a year! Now she is so independent it cracks us up (she is 2)! Don't fret about it. It is just something they go through. Some kids more so than others. You will have a great time. :thumbsup2

My third also has stranger anxiety while my first two never did! He is now 16 months and starting to get better - will tolerate grandparents if I am around! I read somewhere that it usually gets better around 18 months! I've been told to leave him for small amounts of time and gradually get longer. He will now stay with a friend of mine for a couple of hours while I volunteer in my first grader's class. I think he is fascinated with her three year old, and he comes to our house every other week. We are also going to Disney in May. I am doubting he will let a single character interact with him! Good luck!

Totally normal and nothing to worry about! It may pass before the trip but if it dosen't don't worry. Chances are he will feel safe in the stroller and if he is very "shy" consider using a sling or snugli (a good idea for lines when you can't take the stroller anyway). The characters are very good at reading kids and if he is at all apprehensive about meeting them they will totally back off and take it at his speed.

My nephew was totally freaked out at chuck e cheese and also at the chicken at chick filet but the characters at WDW took it so slow that he warmed up to them in just one character meal.

Have a wonderful trip.

Thanks for the positive replies! I guess I was just a little unnerved because the older two absolutely had no fear of anyone (which I guess is not the greatest thing either these days).

Thanks again!
