OK, so I have learned that not everywhere in the country call it a Stag & Doe. A friend from Calgary said they call it a "social".

Regardless, I am looking for ideas from those that have planned one before.

1) What types of fun games, contests, etc. have you had to raise $$$ for the bride and groom?
2) Did you have raffles & door prizes? Where did you go to get the gifts?

I have started calling on the companies which I support for promotional donations to the event. Everyone from the local Hair Salon and Spa I frequest through to Hilton Hhonors. Any ideas or other suggestions for this "Stag & Doe"?

Thanks

Get a deck of playing cards (with a Joker) shuffle them and place them on a bristol board. Sell the cards ($1, $2 $5 each or whatever) writing your name on the back. Once all the cards are sold who ever signed the joker wins half the pot and the wedding couple gets the other half.

get a large jar, place a shot glass in the bottom, and fill it with water. Place it on the bar. People can drop loonies in through a hole in the top, with any successful drops winning a drink. Usually raises a couple hundred dollars.

For my brothers and sisters stag and does we had lots of prizes...many donated but some purchased...even a lazy boy chair!! Sold raffle tickets an arm length for $5 and people put one ticket in the box of whatever prizes they wanted to win...made mucho dinero!!!

Also rented a crown and anchor game from the local party supply store.

Oh yeah we also had a twoonie toss....put a bottle of alchohol in the middle of the floor and slide twoonies at it across the floor...closest wins the bottle...bride and groom keep the money

Big money maker was balloon pop.....had a bunch of prizes for the game...in each balloon was a piece of paper, some had the prize number of a corresponding prize...some were play again....put balloons on a sheet of plywood carnival style....we had a couple of large garbage bags full of replacement balloons....3 darts for $5....had a couple real good prizes on the table that were strategically placed near the bottom of the refill bags. At my sisters we made over $900 just on this game.

Hi- Take a peice of bristal board, fill up with scratch tickets, then sell tickets to win the whole board.

-Take a peice of bristal board, divide into equal squares with marker.Fill squares with random numbers. People can pick a number and cross it off. When board is full, pick a number out of a jar.Who ever has that picked number wins a prize.

These are some great ideas... KEEP 'EM coming!

How did you go about getting prizes donated? I have approached some of my local companies that I support onging, but those that I do not know well....?

For us it was mostly by people who worked for specific companies. One of my brothers friends works as a sales rep for Kraft!!! I owned a business and donated a satellite system....my sisters fil is a fantastic artist...he donated two framed paintings.

FOr my sisters, after xmas Walmart had all their gift baskets marked down like 75%....we got big beautiful bath baskets, make up baskets, coffee...etc for around $5 each.

You may be surprised once you start asking friends and family what you can come with.

Our's almost 5 years ago was a Hawiaan Lua theme. We had lai's for sale. All the single bridesmaids would sels a lai for 1.00

We had a karoke machine and you could sell someone into singing a song for like $1.00 or so, and you could buy your way out for $2.00. It made some great money.

We also had a penny sale. You can get the tickets at rental stores sometimes, we got ours from a printer. You buy so many tickets and put the little pieces in jars of items that you want to try to win ( think church bazaar) We got lots of donations from local resturants, we also talked to local car dealerships and got some swag. We also looked in clearance sections for really inexpensive things like DVD players, skrewdrivers ect.

We also had one big grand prize that we raffled off, We sold them by wing spans. $ 5 one are $10 for a wing span. We were a bit cheeky my 7 feet tall cousin and my 5 foot best friend went around selling these tickets, people would think my 7 foot cousin was the measurement of the arms length, nope... 5 foot best friend. He was just the money man. :)

We also sold Jello shooters and Jello pudding shooters with Kahlua in them for $1 a shooter, made some money.

Balloon pop, card game. Twoonie toss. They all will make lots of money.

We also had a black jack table and poker,
We went to a Stag and Doe last year and they had a Texas Hold em table and a it made some money, they would take a rake about every half hour on the table.

We found having a lower entry cost of tickets we sold a lot more than other's that have come and gone and got more people out. We also had a mini buffet that was included in the $$ they spent ahead of time. All the bridesmaids and parents chipped in for that.

Just remember to get your liquor licence. We actually had someone from the liqour control board come in to see if we had it. We did. My dad the RCMP officer was happy to show them it.

All in all, it paid for our Honeymoon and a few other things. I would actually love to have another now that its been 5 years. Everyone's married but it was a fun party, perhaps donate the money to charity or something.
