Today came home from school, went outside with the dog... and :scared1: snake in the garden! Yep I freaked out and had the big one! :lmao: So beware!! I thought I was safe for at least another few weeks, but they are up and moving around! As for my dog- I don't really thing he is a dog :confused3 he missed the whole thing! :sad2:

I'm sooo with you Cdn Gal ... I am TERRIFIED of them ... heck, I'm afraid of the rubber ones you buy at Dollarama!

maryliz, my kids (10 & 8) girls, take great pride on coming up behind me in the Dollarama, and putting the snakes on my shoulder!! I will actually move very quickly up the isle, as they are killing themselves laughing!!!!! Thanks to my DH for putting them up to it!!!!!!!! I look like a freak running up the isle, telling them to stop and leave me alone!
DOn't go on the boggy creek airboat rides if you don't want to see snakes, cause there was plenty of them, in the water, and sunning themselves on the marshes. YUCK

My kids have done it to me as well.....I doubt they will try it again because the last time I really made a big scene. Screaming and crying and then yelling at them.....you get the picture.

About 5 years ago I was out pulling weeds in the garden and between two plants I say what I thought was the tail of a snake. Naturally, I ran in the house screaming. My DH went out and looked where I was pointing from inside the house.....yep snake. So I say to him...'get rid of it'. He replies 'Oh leave it alone it won't hurt you'. I say 'No, no you have to get a pair of gloves on and throw it over the fence'. Mr brave then tells me that he won't do it because 'they bite'. :rotfl2:

After that incident I didn't go back outside for over 2 weeks....and still to this day look around before I touch anything. BTW, we live in the city so it's not like we live in prime snake country.

Oh, my kids know that I would absolutely hurt them beyond belief if they ever did that to me! One time I was picking the kids up at daycare ... her own kids had just bought the wooden ones from the dollar store that really look real if you wiggle them just right ... my kids were telling them how afraid i am, so their mom told them to put them away. but like most preteens, they thought it would be really funny to greet me in the driveway with them. :scared1: I screamed and ran and cried ... they had no idea just HOW freaked I would get!

Wouldn't have been that funny if my children had watched me die of a heart attack, right in front of their little eyes. :rolleyes1 The sitter felt terrible that they had done that, and I think her girls got into a LOT of trouble that night.

Every time we're at Typhoon Lagoon, I can't relax and enjoy the lazy river because of reports of snakes in the water. I'd like to say I'd remain calm, but I know that wouldn't happen ... they'd hear me all the way to Downtown Disney. ;)

You guys have just inspired me to play a practical joke on DH. We are both afraid of snakes, but him even more so.
And we have some much needed gardening to tackle this week. Hmmmmmm..... should I? :scratchin

If you do it make sure the life insurance is paid up....for both him and you. If he survives...he'll kill you.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I'll let everyone know the results. Nothing is open tomorrow so I can't pick up a snake, but Monday I am heading to the Dollarama and then look out DH ;)

Well, we spent a good part of the weekend outside in the garden and the snakes were abundant. I don't really care for them and let out a squeal whenever they are sunning and I come across them on a path. Dh is not impressed that my fear has rubbed off on my kids. The 4 of them were in their play area (has a small picket fence around the play structure to keep the dogs out) and there was a snake sunning in front of the gate. None of them could get out and they were all screaming, oldest dd was crying and dh had to lift each of them over the fence at the other end, lol.

My mom hates snake and she refuses to walk in my yard in the summer. She was ok on our deck until last year I told her there was a snake on the deck. Now, she just doesn't come to visit anymore, lol, too much wildlife around my house for her.

Can someone explain the fear in snakes???? I have been afraid of them for as long as I can remember but am not quite as bad as I used to be. There was a time when I couldn't look at them on TV or through a thick glass window at the zoo. Those I can do now and once at the zoo I even put 1 finger, for 1 second on one of those really big constrictor types. Actually, I have forced myself to do a few scarey things in the last few years....ToT last September (and I even went back for round 2).

I don't get it.....I'm not afraid of any other creatures :confused3 Well...I don't like mice/rats :rolleyes1

For anyone who is religious, didn't Satan present himself to Eve as a snake in the garden of Eden? Trying to remember from my childhood.

Plus they are slimy and long and slithery and come on people they have FANGS!!!:scared1:

For all of you who have snakes in their yards and gardens, one question????

WHat kind of snakes are they?????

UGH!!!! I hate them!!! The kids in my class had alot of fun this past Thursday putting snakes on my chair, computer etc. for April fools. And... you would think that I would know since I was expecting it, but ohhh no! I would scream and jump and the kids would laugh as was the class next door. :confused3 Kids- what do you do?? :)
I think that my fear started when we lived on Stoney Lake- north of Peterborough. Our yard growing up had tons of snakes- in the hedge from the water, in the wood pile etc., It was awful. But then the longer we lived there the less frequent we saw them. But I remember one time when we were swimming and my mom called us and told us to get out of the water b/c of a water snake. While we were up on the dock this other massive snake- huge- thicker than my fist came up. Our neighbour killed it with an ax, put it back in the water (remember this was in 1980's- before we thought about the environment :hippie:) and I remember it coming back towards us- after it was cut in half! We were all freaking out and so was our neighbour as nobody had ever seen anything like this before. It was one of the incidents that contributed to my fear of snakes. I also remember us driving along and a huge snake crossed the road- it was so big that it covered the whole length of the road!!! Man...county living!!! How did I ever survive :confused3
This past weekend we saw 2 snakes, both garter snakes. My DH got rid if them- how I don`t know and I didn`t ask! :rolleyes1
Another reason why I don`t like snakes is because in church there were alway these pictures everywhere with Mary crushing the snakes (devil`s) head. I feel kind of bad for the snakes really, it`s not their fault! :hippie: I just hate them! :)

Ok..that's a legit fear.

My friend has built a house on the property that was been her parents cottage since 1950. Two summers ago we were visitiing and the dog found a snake skin. My friend said in her life they never saw a snake there until that summer. She also if afraid. Well, didn't we see movement in the bushes right beside the lake. So me hero DH goes down with a shovel.....and yep....sneaky snake in the bushes. My friend says to him that he must chop it into a million pieces because if you don't they can still move around. The reason had something to do with this occuring before sunset :confused3 Anyway he did as he was told. Since then my protector has rid the earth of several more on a few trips up to visit my friend.

My friends saying....that I have since adopted....'the only good snake, is a dead snake'

Yeah, I have heard about that too- something about sunset?? :confused3 I haven't heard about that in a number of years. Hmm, can't remember what that was all about. OK another story. Friends we know bought a cottage out on lake, and at night you could hear snakes in the walls. Unfortunately for them, they were Black Rat Snakes, which are endangered. There were in their cupboards, in the attic, everywhere!!! They ended up setting traps and had them removed from the property. But honestly, I couldn't go into the cottage or anywhere near that. I'm bad, I know it. :rolleyes1 I even jump at the sight of a snake in a book!! The kids always laugh at me, but they scare the %$#$@ out of me! :sad2:

Snakes in the WALLS??? Cupboards??? I'd be dead from a heart attack. I'm now afraid of the nightmare I'm gonna have tonight. :scared1:

:lmao:

Yep- apparently it is very common in cottage country here. :confused3 I wouldn't be able to be in the cottage at all if that was the case.

OK- another story- In Rockport, at the Catholic church, there is a black rat snake that lives under the steps. So after church on Sunday people will often come out and there will be this big old snake waiting for them! I was there recently for a funeral and I was having the big one, being worried that I would see it. :scared1: Luckily for me I didn't. But I can honesty tell you that I used to go there in the summer, but b/c of the snake I don't go there anymore at all! :rolleyes1
