Congratulations! A thrid grade student from your school is one of the 24 finalists in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo's School Art Progaram, and you have the power to help the student and your school win fantastic prizes.

From March 3 to April 3, the top 24 Elementary School entries will be posted at http://www.ReliantPowerZone.com.

We encourage you and your faculty and staff to direct students, parents and friends to visit the web site to see the outstanding finalists and to vote for their favorites.

The artists of the three pieces with the most votes after April 3 will each receive $1,000 of art supplies for his or her school, a $500 gift certificate, and a Power of Art plaque.

The artwork from the student at your school is titled "To Thee Texas" and numbered 8780.

WOW! I did vote for your school, since you asked, but if I were really choosing - I don't think I could. Some of that was just unbelievable. Do you know if the work was all done at school (ie, no way a parent "helped")? That cowboy in the sunset that said it was a 1st grader blew me away.

They are done at school, K-6th grade. I'm not sure what the exact rules are though, if they can go home and then back or not. That was a private school and the in our area the private schools do way more in the art department than the public. A friend of mine's son has 45 minutes of art daily, our kids get 20 minutes twice a month. But I don't know. I have to admit, that was pretty incredible for a 1st grader.
