I am not an RCI member but a relative is. She is going to purchase an extra vacation for us (with my credit card info.) .
My ? : Can she purchase the guest certificate for me (using my credit card info) months AFTER buying the extra vacation?

The reason why I am asking is because she is going to purchase for me (with my credit card info) the 5 year guest certificate (149 US$). The extra vacation would not take place until December 2007 and I am hoping to not have to buy the 5 year guest certificate until closer to trip time in order to get as much use out of it as possible. If I was to buy it now it would expire in the spring in five years time. I would like to buy it in the fall so it would be valid for five years expiring in the fall.

I hope this makes sense.

Any info. would be really appreciated.

Thank you
Also posted on TUG but want to purchase extra vacation today so in need of a quick anser.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, Suzy...?:goodvibes

I'm reading:
a) she's (well, you) are buying an EV today
b) can she/you buy a guest certificate, in your name as well.

My first answer would be yes.
(There's an option when you go through to purchase the GC to use someone else's cc.)

They're 2 separate things, AFAIK:)
Maybe someone else will know differently...you also want to check on the 1 in4/5 rule...I'm still not sure if the member can go to a resort, ie OLCC HGVC or Sheraton, and then a guest go the next year..

Let us know what you find out:)

Sorry for not being clear:
What I meant was that can my relative purchase an EV (for Decemebr 2007) for me today but not purchase the guest certificate until a couple months before check-in?

We want to buy the 5 year guest certificate and are hoping on not buying it until shortly before check-in in order to be able to use the 5 year (blanket type) guest certificate for as many vacations as possible.

ex. if we were to buy the 5 year guest certificate now, it would expire in the spring 5 years from now. If we were to have our relative purchase it for us in the fall 2007, it would not expire until the fall 5 years from now.

I hope this makes sense. Sorry my first post was hard to read.

I just don't want to buy the EV today (without buying a guest certificate) and then in the fall try to add a guest certificate to it and then have RCI say "sorry, you had to have bought the guest certificate at the same time as when you purchased the EV"

You can buy a single GC anytime. The Guest Pass thing works a little differently; you can make a reservation in the name of anyone on the Guest Pass without needing to buy a single GC. I *think* you can buy the GP later (just like the GC), and then transfer the name of the reservation from her to you, but don't know for sure.

To know for sure, you should probably ask Madge on TUG's "Ask RCI" board.
