Hi Mom's and Dad's!

I was thinking of taking my 2 1/2 year old to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular this year. Has anyone else done it this young? I know I've seen little babies there, but can't recall toddlers off hand.

If I do take him, I'd most likely make it an all day trip (we're on LI so we'd take the train) so is there a place to leave a stroller (I have a city mini so it folds up small and I could probably just have it at our seats with us)?

I was thinking this show because I know it moves quickly with lots of different stuff rather than one drawn out thing that he'd have to pay attention to.

Any opinions or other stuff I should know about taking a toddler?

Thanks!

This is jmo but I think 2 1/2 is too young. I also live on LI and we frequently go to NYC especially around the holidays. We took our older 2 kids 2 years ago to see the Christmas Spetacular, they were 4 1/2 and almost 6 at the time. I am considering taking all 3 kids this year (youngest is 3 1/2) because my mom's chorus is singing at the beginning of the show.

I believe they have places to keep your stroller.

I though it was odd that there were so many babies and toddlers when we went :confused3

When our kids were that age we would do the holiday trip and see the tree, FAO, Santa at Macy's etc.. that alone was enough to wear them out, LOL!

Good Luck with your decision.

I'm on Long Island too and wanted to take my 3 year old but my hubby says she is too young. When we go to the movies, she doesn't stay in the seat so she most likely won't sit through this either.

We went last year and my youngest was 2 years, 8 months. He loved the show and actually sat through almost the entire thing. Near the end there were a few empty seats next to my DH and he was just standing up in front of them, I think if they were full he just would have stayed in DH's lap. There was no one directly behind us so it was not bothering anyone. The show is awesome. My other kids ages 6 and 7 already asked if we can go again this year. We went to a 10 or 11 am show so I think that helped as my DS was still napping at the time so any later & he would've been cranky.

You definitely won't be able to have a stroller at your seats, but they will have a place to store it during the show.

That said, though, I think 2 is way too young. I'd wait at least 2 years.

Well...I go almost every year, and I have seen kids that young.I have also had the show basically ruined by kids that young jumping on the seats, over the seats and screaming their heads off.It has happened maybe a handful of times compared to the number of times I have gone. You know your child best.I will say it is very expensive, and a child that age may be enthralled, or may not be.I still have not taken my daughter and she is 6 ( I am this year for the first time), I wanted her to enjoy it and remember it and up until last year she was a little fidgety and too talkative.I didn't want to ruin the experience for anyone else.

Last year was the first year we took our youngest and he was 7. Imo 2 is way too young. And I don't want to sound mean or anything, but I'd be very upset if I paid all that money and had the show ruined because a child was too young to sit still and be quiet.

I agree- whenever I've seen a toddler there, after a number or two, the parents are usually walking out into the lobby with them. My kids were 5 and 7 when we first went and that seemed to work out well.

I think that is too young. It can be a long time between getting to the music hall, getting seated adn the show actually beginning. Then there is the show. I think my DGD was 6 and she was old enough, but I would have hesitated to take her before she turned 4.

I think 2&1/2 is too young, especially if he's never been to any type of theater performance before. Just the darkness & the volume can scare a lot of young kids.

I'd probably wait a year or two, and in the meantime take him to some inexpensive children's theater productions as "practice." You'll find out how he reacts to the experience of theater in general, and he'll learn how to behave in a theater.
