Can anyone give me some advice on appropriate First Communion gifts, ones that are non-religious? I was thinking maybe a gift card to a book store?? Any other ideas? Thanks!

Kids love walmart gift cards...my kids go crazy everytime they get them as gifts. They can go to the store and pick out whatever they want... this time of year the kiddo you are giving it to can go pick out something fun to play with outdoors :)

I think books or a gift card to a bookstore is a great idea. My son had his first communion last weekend and he got several books (and we gave him a gift card to the bookstore.) He loves to read.

My daughter got a gift card to a book store for her first communion last year. I would also suggest gift cards to a local store, even a toy store if necessary. Is it for a girl or a boy? Do you want to give a gift that will end up holding sentimental value? If so, I would suggest a nice necklace for a girl.

I think that's a great idea!

99% give cash, check, or savings bonds. Around here, only close family gives actual gifts (MIL gave my dd a St. Catherine medal yesterday - unfortunately, that's what I gave her also).

Thanks for the great replies! The gift is for a boy. I think I'll do the bookstore gift card then, thanks! :)
