A friend has an RCI timeshare week he's not planning to use, and has offered it to us. :) We want to go 1st week of August somewhere that is within 12 hr driving distance from Maine. We're bringing our 7 and 4 yr old. Any recommendations on specific family oriented resorts? A catch is that we must take the vacation within 45 days of booking. Not sure if this will limit us tremendously. We're undecided on area - upstate NY, near beach area in NJ, Pennsylvania either Poconos or Hershey Park, Outer Banks??

We own two timeshares with RCI and during the summer it is extremely difficult to get a place that is in a high tourist area. We are not the type to plan way in advance, but whenever we have called for things like Poconos, Rhode Island, Williamsburg, Lake George...they tell us that for summer travel we need to book a year in advance. Not trying to deter you, but just be warned its not so easy to do a last minute summer trip.

Your friend should have a huge catalog of the places you can choose. The catalog shows a photo of the resort and the amenities it has available. I don't have mine in front of me, but they have the book broken down by state and/or country and there must be about 10 resort listings on each page and the catalog is probably around 300-400 pages. You've got a lot to choose from. Not sure what I'd recommend. Did you try going on www.rci.com? You won't be able to do a member log in, but I think you will still be able to peruse the resort listings. Be prepared to have 2nd, 3rd and even 4th choices when you call and the reps will tell you right away if what you picked is already booked up or not.

Good Luck! :thumbsup2
