I need help, I have tried so many products on my DD hair and nothing seems to work! She is 1/4 Palestinian and has the curliest hair, but it is such tight ringlets that it makes it impossible to comb...actually I have NEVER been able to get a comb through it, I use a special brush given to me by my stylist to use on her hair that, but still it remains tangled at the ends. I even took her to my stylist and his suggestion was to just let it grow :lmao:

I have naturally curly hair and have used all the products I use and nothing seems to help! So now seem lives in a giant pony tail that we call her "afro puff" :rotfl: At night after I condition it, if I do not put it up in a pony tail, she looks like she has one of those big afros from the 70s and the back where she has laid on it looks like the start of dreadlocks.

So I am looking for any products that have worked for you...especially for a spray in detangler. I know with time it will grow longer and the curl should become more manageable, but it is just miserable to try and keep it under control.

Some of the products I have tried and did not work:
Neutrogena Triple Moisture Moisturizing, Garnier Fructis, Redken fresh curls, Kerastase, Catwalk curls, Just for Me! 2-in-1 Conditioning Detangler

We use the Abebi's Safari Detangler from Circle of Friends http://www.cofbath.com/ . I have also been able to purchase some of these products at my local Bath and Body Works.

I just *love* :lovestruc the Circle of Friends products. They work well and smell WONDERFUL. My kids love to read the bottle, too, and learn about the cultures of each of the children.

My children are caucasian, but the middle DD has hair that gets SO tangled... this spray has saved her poor scalp more than once.

Good luck!

ntink: I have heard of ouidad, but never tried it...so I will check it out.

Sorsha: interesting products, I will check at my Bath and Body works tomorrow for the Abebi's Safari Detangler!

My sister use to use a product from a hair salon called Baby But by Paul Mitchell for my niece that has very tight curls. Our other sister works in a salon but wasn't able to get it anymore as it was a special order and it would cost so much more.

I checked online and can't seem to find it, maybe they don't make it anymore.

Now my sister just buys a cheep conditioner and coats her hair in it and then takes a comb to it in the bath. It takes a while to get all the knots out.

LOOK there you might find some ideas that helps 1 I found was not shampooing very often to wash hair with conditioner Aussie Moist shampoo an conditioner is the best I've found at any price. While I don't shampoo often I've found that the Aussie Moist shampoo does break down my tangles much more than any other shampoo I've used. Aussie products are reasonably priced too an can be bought most anywhere.

Your DD's hair prolly will have to be wet to get the tangles out if I try to do my hair when it's dry I end up with an afro always have always will doesn't matter if I use a brush, comb or pick same results.

I have tried the combing it in the bath, it does not work. I only brush her hair if it is wet, it is not worth it to try it dry. Her hair is still a solid rats nest at the ends...the only thing that works is to torture her by brushing it which she will scream and cry. Still even after brushing it the ends immediately become tangled and difficulty to brush.

I do not shampoo it everyday, we go through tons of conditioner. I have tried the Aussie and it works the same as all the other products. We did try the VO5 treatment last week and it seemed to help a tiny bit.

My DD7 had really curly hair - not ethnic but curly. We use Infusium Leave in Conditioner poured into a spray bottle. I never brush her hair dry either - I used a the leave in and a water to wet it down completely before trying to comb it. Good luck!

How much water do you dilute the Infusium Leave in Conditioner with?

I just started using the Wen hair products, I think when I wash her hair next I will try it...actually alittle scared that it will work because it cost so much!:)

I use Carol's Daughter products on my Ethiopian daughter's curly hair. It is expensive, but so worth it. The Tui Hair Smoothie is wonderful for the weekly condition and I put the hair milk on every day along with hair honey.
Good luck, it took me a whole year to find what will really work.

I have very, very thick curly hair. I'm caucasian, but my aunt likes to joke that my hair isn't. When I was little it was so painful to have brushed, I would cry and scream and my mom made me cut it all off. It was just awful and looked terrible short! Anyway, what I do now is use herbal essences for dry hair, shampoo, then load up the conditioner, put it up in a clip and leave it for 3-6 minutes while I shave and wash my legs. Then I take it down and dampen the hair with water then brush out the rats nest of tangles, then rinse out the remainder of the conditioner. It works SO well.. then I just lightly towl dry until it's damp and put a leave-in conditioner on to keep the frizz out.

It also helps to get frequent (every 4 weeks) trims. It ends so tangled at the ends because of all the end/broken ends. this also helps is grow faster.

im a hair stylist and i have super curly hair and my one twin has super tangles here lately i have used "its a 10" i really like it. its a salon product so maybe a salon near u might have it.

hey cerberus where in ohio are u? im between dayton and columbus. so maybe we could exchange info and i could get u some of my detangler to try let me know

The Ouidad products are FANTASTIC!!!

My DD has very curly/frizzy hair and the products have done wonders. I will tell you that they are NOT cheap but worth every penny. I have tried everything on her hair and these are it! For her upcoming birthday she's going to the salon in NYC for a cut and style as her gift from me. I'm using them as well -I'm part-Hispanic and have been chemically straightening my hair since I was about her age but I love how my hair looks after I use them.

I have tried so many things on my DD's hair. I think it is really trial and error. I had so many suggestions and what seemed so great for one child did not work for mine. My dd is adopted. She is AA and I am caucasian. Anyway- we finally found a great detangler called Silken Child. I buy it a beauty supply store. I also use a conditioning cream (it's really thick) as opposed to a regular conditioner. I also only wash her hair with shampoo about once/week. I "wash" it with conditioner the rest of the week.

What helps us keep the tangles out is to comb it out when it is wet. I also use a boar bristle brush to get all of the tiny strands. I use organic olive oil styling gel type stuff and pull it up in piggy tails. At night I use the detangler and comb each piggy tail out, braid it and twist it up. This keeps her from getting matted tangles overnight. In the morning I can just un-twist, take the braids out and her hair is tangle free and adorable. We have fewer tears now than we have ever had.

Good luck. It was so hard finding a system that worked for her hair.

I usually water the conditioner down with about 255 water. I buy the larger bottle and put it in my own sprayer. I use a water sprayer and the conditioner one separate. (A couple of squirts of water and one squirt of conditioner per section of hair - this is of course in the morning when her hair is dry - other wise just conditioner mix).

My son is biracial and has combination hair. I had a hard time finding products that would work, but not weigh his hair down. I finally found this line of products and they worked GREAT! It is called Curlz and the website is http://www.curls.biz/

They use all organic ingredients. My favorites were the coconut dream products.

My DD is 7 and has very thick and curly hair. The only thing that works for me, if I don't want to spend an hour combing through it in the morning, is to wash it and condition it at night, then comb through it with a leave in conditioner and braid it. When she wakes up in the morning I use a spray detangler/leave in conditioner and it works wonders! Her hair also looks much more healthy.

If I don't do that and let her get out of the bath and go right to sleep, in the morning I am beating myself in the head!!! I only use Paul Mitchell products. My DD is white and I've tried the just for me products and they did nothing for her tangled mess, Paul Mitchell is the only thing that I've had good luck with.

Wow, thanks for all the responses everyone! I had to work yesterday, so I was offline. I am reading through all your suggestions and plan to head out to the store to find a couple of them, then I will start working on the online suggestions. I am excited to try a few of these, I do not care if it is expensive if it works...lord I can not wait until her hair grows some more! When her hair is dry it is shoulder length, when wet it goes past the middle of her back :)
