OT - need advice from fellow Nikkon users. I know you're out there:)

I have a Nikkon D40 and absolutely LOVE it but I want to get a bigger and better lense that will give me more of a zoom. I also want to be able to take good nite time shots. Anybody have any recommendations? I don't even know where to start! Thanks

I'd ask on the photography board. They seem to know everything there.

I just have the 2 basic lenses so can't help you out.

Definitely ask on the photography board. There are a lot of talented people on there. I was just looking for the same thing. I wanted an 18-200 lense so that I didn't have to switch lenses, but I didn't want to pay $800 for a Nikon lens. I got some good info on that board. Ended up going with a Sigma with Digital image stabilization. $400 on amazon. I have only had it for a week, but used it at my son's t-ball games over the weekend and was able to get some great shots from it. I'm sure the Nikon lens is better, but I'm happy with this one for now.

One tip - really do your research and if you can get your hands on the lens you decide on before buying it, check it out physically. This lens is much heavier and larger than I expected it to be. I have the D50. I know the D40 camera body is smaller than the D50 and I read some reviews on a lens (can't remember which one, but it may have been the Sigma) stating that it is a little large for the D40 and can get in the way of the flash.
