Hi, my DS and I are making a quick trip to visit Columbia and NYU tomorrow. Just looking at driving directions and parking.

We are going to Columbia first (2960 Broadway) and plan to arrive at about 9 am for a 10 am appointment. We should finish up about 12:30 and then move on to NYU (50 W. 4th St.) for a 2:30 appt.

My questions are: would you recommend coming in via the George Washington Bridge or the Lincoln tunnel at that time of day (coming from Philadelphia area)? Also, is it worth it to park near Columbia and then again near NYU, or is it easier to just take a cab back-and-forth and leave the car (in a parking garage) near Columbia all day?

Have any idea about cab fare from Columbia to NYU (or link me to a site where I can find out)?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Just asked my DH. He worked in the city for years. He recommends the GW bridge coming in and suggests you leave the car and take the subway. It is a long cab ride. I am sure if you ask at Columbia they will direct you to the correct subway.

Thanks Maureenmac! Will definitely go via the GW bridge and check out the subway. Thanks again!

Any chance of you guys catching amtrack to NYC? Just be warned to be at Columbia at 9 am you are in the middle of rush hour, In Uptown Manhattan. It's going to be ugly.

Hi eliza61, yeah, I know our timing is bad :-0 We're planning on leaving early and will probably spend a lot of time sitting in traffic. Didn't really think about Amtrak before, but that is a good suggestion too. Thanks for your help :)

I would not drive in the city parking is a you know waht lol I would take the bus to the city or subway it chepper than a prking ticket or the red light camera for blocking the box trust me lol

Hi Tony NY,

Thanks for your suggestions too! As you can see by the date, we made it there-and-back yesterday. Had a nice visit. Thanks to everyone for the help!
