Hi everyone,

I'm looking for opinions here. Has anyone here ever stayed at this specific resort on Mackinac Island?? We received an email offer for a family package and are considering it. I did a brief search on reviews and the few I read were not very favorable: tiny rooms, no A/C, etc.

The resort's website looks beautiful, but the reviews make me very hesitant. If you haven't stayed at this resort, is there one you would recommend on Mackinac Island? We are a family of 4: myself, DH, DS8 & DD6.

Thanks for your help!

How long do you plan on spending in the area? I don't know that I would stay on the island. There are cheaper places to stay off the island - St. Ignace, Mackinaw City... and then ferry over for a day. I think a day trip to the island is plenty - take a tour or 2, bike around the island. In Mackinaw City there is a water park, in the UP you can drive to Whitefish Pointe, see the Soo Locks. There is a neat place called Oswalds Bears you can visit. Lots to do and see.

I haven't stayed at Mission Pointe, but no a/c is the norm on MI. Its so chilly up there you won't need it.

Thanks for the feedback. We're probably looking at 2-3 days in the area, then heading over to Harbor Springs to visit friends. We're definitely in the very beginnings of planning this little trip.

I've stayed at Mission Point twice, both for group outings. Based on my experiences, I would not recommend this hotel.

With your children's ages, you might look at the Lakeview Hotel which has an indoor pool or better yet, look at Main Street Inn and Suites.

I've stayed there twice, once on a school trip shortly after they opened and once for my cousin's wedding 2 years ago. I don't remember having any trouble the first trip (I was 13 and away from my parents, it was heaven :lmao:), but was not impressed on the most recent one. The reviews you read are right. The rooms are pretty small (I've stayed in a larger room in NYC) and get crowded quick. Trying to get 3 people ready for a wedding in there was near impossible. It's true that it's chilly on the island, even in summer, but I have trouble existing without a/c due to allergies and it does get warm inside. It's pretty spread out as well. It took us probably 10 minutes to get from our room to the main building and pool, about 20 to get down to the water. It's also kind of old/musty feeling. Lastly, we had a problem with the beds... when you sat on the mattress you went right through it. Most uncomfortable bed I've been on in my life, wish I would've brought a cot.

Overall, not impressed. Probably would've stayed elsewhere if not for not having a choice/convince.

We stayed at the Clarion Hotel in Mackinaw City 2 years ago and it was very nice and reasonable. It was a suite room and plenty of room. We also had access to the indoor waterpark at the Comfort Suites but my kids liked the regular pool at the Clarion better. The only problem we had while there was the bat that camped out for a little while by our room and once it flew I freaked cause it flew at me. Never did see it again after that. We also had a great view of the Lake.

We then took the ferry over to the Island and had a great time walking the Island. I grew up in Michigan and this was always my favorite trip so i have made it so my kids have the opportunity to go as well.
