Wasn't sure where to post this, so here it is! :D

I won a Bid on SkyAuction for a week in Vegas (7 nights at the Carriage House, studio w/ kitchenette for $280 total), so now I have to start planning it! Luckily, I have a year to do so. :)

I know about CheapoVegas.com and lasvegasadvisor.com. Any others (good ones, not just people talking about gambling) you can recommend? I'm more interested in saving $$, shows, food and non-gambling things to do there. I went back in 97 I think. I was only there for about 24 hrs, so I didn't get to do much other than a little slot play, eat and sleep.

TIA!

Can I hijack this thread and ask if anyone knows of a New York City discussion board like this?

Thanks!

Have a great time in Vegas. It's one of my favorite places to visit. I got married there in fact. Unfortunately I don't know of any boards, not to say there probably isn't a few!

Hi!

Feel free to PM me or post any Vegas questions and I'd be happy to help you out. I predict this thread will be moved to the community board, and I'm sure you'll get tons of responses.

If you want advice from a resident about things to do, let me know some details: dates, rental car?, budget!

Patti, Can you reccomend a hotel that is nice but not too expensive that is in a good location on the strip? We have not been for 11 years:eek: and are thinking of going in Sept. I know things have changed a lot in that time. We will spend time in the room;) and would like to have a nice resturant on the property. Any suggestions? Thanks!:teeth:

HI. We have reservations to go to Vegas for my hubby's 40th Birthday in September. Got tix with points and right now have a one day deposit on three nights at the Tropicana. I am looking for good rates for the strip.

a good site for information and reviews is a2zlasvegas.com. I also went on the big resort web sites and signed up to be notified by email when specials become available. There is a special right now for the Venitian and a good one for the Hilton, just not our dates.

Have a great trip. We love Vegas.

We stayed at the Flamingo in May for $55 a nite great location, pool & we found the staff very nice. WWW.parkplace.com is the web site for them plus Paris & Ceasars.

Wow that's a great rate for the Flamingo. They quoted me 144 night with AAA. We are staying sept 24,25,26 (fri sat sun) so the weekend is a problem with the rates. I'm on the prowl for better rates.

We stay everywhere in Vegas free because my DH plays big $ when we go to Vegas (Vegas is DH's "Disney"), but when we didn't want to spend the $$ on a room when we first started going (which we have been going yearly for more than 8 years now) we would stay at the Imperial Palace and call and ask for Casino Marketing and the players rate. It was like $25-$35 a night for a hotel that is clean & decent and right in the center of the strip across from Caesars. It is a perfect location as is the Flamingo mentioned above. I would recommend not going any further than the Stardust on the strip, the end where Stratosphere and Sahara are are kinda yucky imho. But center strip you have the Mirage, Caesars, Bellagio, Flamingo, Paris, Ballys, Venetian and Harrahs, all right there. We would usually take a bus or cab down to the other end by Mandalay Bay and do those casinos a few nights and sometimes walked back (casino hopping all the way back). I get to go to Disney each year if DH gets his Vegas trip, and while I ONLY play horses when we go, I am not much of a gambler, but i love the Mirage and that is where we usually stay.

Hi. My hubby and I have been to Las Vegas about 5 times. We love it! I also love luxury. I know you can get good deals on hotels on strip, but you can't beat $99 for the Venetian; centerally located, beautiful, top of the line everything with excellent shopping, dining, etc. And to think...$99/night. I bid it on priceline...it's the only 5* priceline negotiates with so you get free rebids. Venetian is also offering a special of $129 on weeknights through their web specials. Also, try hotwire! I go to www. biddingfortravel.com to check out what others have won bids at for Las Vegas.

Our 1st trip we did imperial palace...efficient, but far from luxurious. We paid $65/ night for this. We don't go unless I get venetian for $99

Thanks Princessmania! I found the $129 rate for nights that might work for us. When you go to the website put in your dates even if they don't pop up as part of the special. Most of the weekdays mid Sept. came up at the $129 rate even though it only listed 2 or 3.:D I wanted Thursday to Sunday but Sunday to Wednesday seem to be much less per night and the flight is less too.

Has anyone ever renewed their wedding vows in Vegas? I think that might be fun!:teeth:

Hello all you Vegas lovers!!!!!

1. Priceline 5* for the Venetian is a GREAT tip. Try it for sure at $99.

2. Consider venturing off of the Strip if you have a "serious" gambler with you. Slots are looser and dealers more free with advice at off-Strip properties (table minimums are MUCH lower, too). If you need suggestions, let me know. (I work at a locals casino).

3. Harrah's is an "economy" choice in a central location.

4. Try Excalibur or Tropicana for the least expensive option in a great area.

5. All of the hotels/casinos have great restaurants to choose from, and most have added a type of food-court/counter-service location for quick nibbles.

6. Renewing vows is a GREAT idea in Vegas. Shop around for a nice package. I know most of the chapels---ask me or somebody knowledgeable before you choose an independent chapel. Quality varies W-I-D-E-L-Y-!!!! Any of the larger casino chapels will be nice. (I worked at TI Wedding Chapel for a couple of years.)

Anything else, let me know!

it was basically my first trip. I had been once more than 20 years ago at about age 14 so EVERYTHING was different. I found a message board that I got alot of good info from. It is www.travel2vegas.com. Have fun!

I'm just back from Vegas, too. We stayed waaaaay off-strip--Sam's Town--but had a rental car, so it wasn't that big of a deal. We visited the strip a few times, as well as Fremont Street and the Green Valley Ranch Resort (which is featured on Discovery's American Casino).

If you are going to have a car, you may want to consider an off-strip location if price is a consideration. Our room at Sam's Town was cheap-cheap---the rate was $34 some nights, $29 others, and $75 for fri/sat nights. Very clean rooms and comfortable beds, newly renovated rooms. Also an inexpensive but good 24 hour cafe. As someone else mentioned, the gambling is generally much better off the strip.

I've also stayed at the Riviera (blah...past its prime, in need of renovation), the Venetian (lovely), the new Aladdin (also very lovely), Bally's (very large but average appearance rooms, can get a good view of the Bellagio fountains), and Sam's Town. The only one I wouldn't stay at again is the Riv, although the gambling there is cheaper than elsewhere on the strip.

Not sure if that helps at all....I don't know of any non-gambling message boards re: Vegas.

Pattie, Is there a wedding chapel you reccomend? It will just be DH and I, no guests, and I do not want the whole fancy big wedding thing. I just wanted to hear DH say those words again.:D The big hotels seem more suited to having guests, but I don't really need Elvis there nor do I want to drive through. The Little White Chapel looks ok? Thanks:D
