Hello!

I was wondering if anyone had some good ideas for snacks for a Kindergarden class of 25. They want us to attempt to stay away from sweets, but they are accepted. Each week has a theme, and we have to try to stay in that area, and of course...my son's week is the theme of "presidents"....how on earth to do I come up with 25 budget-friendly "presidential" treats? eek!:scared1:

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated!!

Ronald Reagan's rice may be cost effective, and healthful - serve in individual cups. Betty Ford's blueberry banana bread - you wouldn't have to follow the recipe exactly, but make your own - I don't think anyone will call you on it :) John Kennedy's waffles could be cut into strips and served w/ syrup for dipping... just a few thoughts but it's a neat website!

How about grapes or pretzel sticks in individual snack bags and putting stickers on the bags. You should be able to find American flags or something related to President's Day this time of year. Good luck!

My first thought was cherries for George Washington, don't know where you'd find them this time of year. Maybe something cherry flavored. My second thought was broccoli in honor of the elder George Bush. Somehow I don't think that would go over very well.

:rotfl: I can see me bringing in a bucket of Broccoli....my son would eat it, but I can imagine what the rest of the class would do...perhaps it may excuse me from bringing snacks for the rest of the year..

I would go with a red, white & blue theme.

I like this idea:
Dip Pretzel Rods half way in white chocolate (or coat with white frosting). Then, before the chocolate sets, roll the pretzel rod in red and blue sprinkles. Presto, you have edible sparklers.

OR

Red, white, and blue yogurt cups.
They need vanilla yogurt, strawberries, and blueberries. Give each child a cup of vanilla yogurt and have them mix in strawberries and blueberries and enjoy. Watch out for allergies.

OR

Take a large washed and dried strawberry and hold it by the stem. Dip the strawberry half way in melted white chocolate. Then quickly dip in blue sprinkles for a delicious patriotic treat!!

OR
4th of July Jell-O Treats. materials: clear plastic cups, strawberry or raspberry Jell-O, blueberry Jell-O, Cool-Whip.

Make each package of Jell-O separately, according to directions. To set, pour into 9"x13" cake pans. When firmly set, cut Jell-O into 1/2" to 1" cubes. Let children scoop a layer of blue Jell-O into their cup, then a spoonful of cool-whip, followed by a layer of red Jell-O. Top with additional cool-whip.

Have fun!

Presidential theme? I know you said they don't want sweets but Ronald Regan always had a jar of Jelly Belly's on his desk. :) The JB factory is down the road from our house, we stop by for the tour sometimes, they have giant pictures made of JB's, one of them is Ronald Regan. :)

I like the yogurt cup ideas...could do vanilla yogurt and layer in blueberrys and raspberries. I would like to bake, but the oven is on the fritz and won't be fixed until a week or so, as the repairman has to wait for a part.

The websites suggested are great too..I'll pass them along to other parents who are stuck with the president's week.
