OT: Is watching same movie over and over normal for a toddler?

My toddlers definitely fixate on movies. DD is all about Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, while DS is all about Cars and Mickey's Christmas Carol. I have two the same age, so we have to take turns. My two usually watch the movie for about 30 minutes, then do other things while it is on, but want to replay the movie when it ends.

DS was a late talker, but his first words were "bare tessies."

We wore out 3 VHS copies of the Jungle Book before the obsession wore off.

Definitely a very normal toddler!! :goodvibes
My littlest one just loves the wiggles and our dvds run pretty much from morning till night - even when it seems like she's not watching them, she still wants them on.

Hi! I am a little worried. My 2 year old son likes to watch the same movie over and over again. He gets very upset when it ends and keeps wanting to watch the same movie. The particular movie seems to vary by day but for the past 2 days it has been Pocahontas. He is a very energetic toddler who doesn't stop moving all day long and he is very social but he just wants to keep watching his movies over and over and over even when I suggest we go outside and play or some other activity. What do you think?:confused3

my son is like 20months...it was finding nemo everyday...well I can't find nemo dvd so now its LION king...my son is always active playing jujmping climbing..so this is a treat for me...the one time we can relax together...so I put it on for bedtime and we both fall asleep to it...I don't think you should worry.

my friends kid at 4 was IN LOVE with blues brothers, watched it every night like a bedtime story.

I, as a young lad, was obsessed with Connie Chung. I watched her news broadcast every day at 3 years old. I do love the asian ladies :)

Kids need repetition, it's structure.

My oldest son loved to watch Conan O'Brian .... I hope that does not mean he will have a thing for large headed irish men someday! :lmao: He used to chant "Conan, Conan, Conan!" and try to stay up late to see it nightly.

most kids do this- it is normal- my kids went through phases- Toy Story, then Wizard of OZ,then star wars... then they outgrow it and leave us parents knowing every line and the kids no longer care.....:lmao:

I went through the same movie over over over over and over too! It was Dora though. I thought I would go bonkers! That's where she learned how to say, "Vamanos Daddy!" It was hysterical! DD also did it Frosty. She actually wore out the Frosty DVD which I did think it could happen.

Yup - toddlers are extra rigid as per their normal development. They get fixated on certain things as it's predictable and safe for them. They don't yet understand that when something ends, it can continue on at a later time, so they continue the cycle over and over. Despite this, you should limit the amount of TV the baby is watching - spending hours upon hours watching Disney movies, although enjoyable, is not the best of activities for a child that young. I would definitely start setting viewing limits now too, as this will be easier for him to handle. As well, make sure that if you start the movie, you can finish the movie in its entirety, as this will also trouble your babe.

Tiger :)
