I just received a 25.00 check from IPSOS Reid Corporation based out of Vancouver, Canada. I vaguely remember doing a very long survey/focus group for a company that could have been them. But my memory of it is very hazy because it must have been at least 6 months ago...maybe longer. I am just wondering if I should toss the check or what. I don't want to cash it only to have my bank account ripped off.
What would you do?
Thanks

Never heard of the place.. perhaps try to run the Bank Routing number in google and see if the bank matches the bank on the check at the very least?

Ipsos is a legit survey site. I've been a member for years. Here is their website. http://www.i-say.com/default.aspx They award points that you can cash in. If you didn't cash in your rewards, I'd contact them. You can use the contact link at the bottom of the page.

Ipsos Reid is the second largest survey/market research company in the world. Ipsos is French, Angus Reid was Canadian before being bought out. Their research is cited on a very regular basis by international media outlets around the world, and companies around the world use their survey results.

I hardly think that you need to worry about the legitimacy of such a major international firm.

It's not the company she is worried about but the check, right? I'd be curious too if I received a check from a place I could vaguely remember doing something for months beforehand. :)

Good for you OP for being cautious! I work in a bank, the amount of scams going around right now are just absurd. :(

Thank goodness! I posted the same question here in the rewards board w/ no replies. I'm glad to see someone else got one! The only thing I could think was that one of the daily surveys I do was diverted (like they sometimes do) to an Ipsos. I know I've done surveys from them b/c I recognized the logo, but am not an actual member. I know I've had to put in my name and address on a few surveys through sr or cd on the greenfield daily surveys, so I'm guessing it was one of them.

ETA: Just remembered I did a survey some time ago, where they sent you a facial product to test, from some company w/ apothicary in the name, and I was supposed to receive additional compensation after completing the follow up survey. Wonder if that is it. Did you do anything like that?

Thanks for the replies. I am more worried about the actual check than the company. I have received many emails that look like they are a legit company only to have one letter off. And a check for a million dollars looks like a scam but 25.00 could be believed.

I just googles the bank routing number (thanks for that suggestion). It is from HSBC Seattle and my bank states HSBC Vancouver. I think I will go to the IPSOS's website and contact them. Even if everything is legit I still worry about cashing it. Can someon give me any safety precautions?
Thanks

Mine has an address in Vancouver, but says US Funds HSBC Seattle WA towards the top of the check, in the middle.

That is exactly what I have. The check almost seems to be in payroll format. I do know that my bank will cash checks (and verify any banks) without any of my personal information attached.
