OT Ipad

A lot of people are expecting an announcement soon. If i'm not mistaken, the original was announced in January/February of last year. I would consider waiting a little while longer.

Same goes for iPhones at this time too. All of those people who are getting their Verizon iPhones now may be sorry they didn't wait a little longer too.

I might buck the trend here but I say if you like the current iPad and it does everything you need then go for it.

I mean, they're always be a 'next big thing' around the corner. If you keep waiting you'll end up waiting forever.

I love my iPad and won't by jealous or champing to buy another one once the iPad2 comes out.

I would agree, if you're not in a hurry it probably makes sense to wait. As there have many leaks, images of the possible iPad2 case, etc., it seems April is pretty likely for the release. Of course, there will be 3, 4, and 5 down the road, but at least you'll have the latest and greatest for a few months!

I got an iPad for Christmas because I really was anxious to start using it (I travel a TON and it is so amazing to have all of my books, movies, games, etc in one small package), and I wasn't that interested in the expected camera addition. There is some speculation that the next one will be lighter -- definitely a plus, this guy is hefty!

I'm sure you'll love it, whatever you decide!

I do agree with your suggestion to a point. However, the price of the current iPad could drop if and when a new version is release. Look at what happened to the price of the iPhone 3GS.

The Wall Street Journal usually has legit rumors that you can hang your hat on, last week they announced that manufacturing has begun on the new iPad, the first iPad was released to the public in April - so every indication will be a Feb/March announcement with an April release date.

As far as waiting vs. buying now; the new iPad will reportedly have an updated screen with retina display; I've had both a 3GS and a 4G iPhone - the updated reinta display on that was night and day. Worth the wait in my opinion.

The biggest appeal of the iPad2 for me, would be the new Retina display. Supposed to be gorgeous.

But, honestly? I adore my iPad. I got it in May, and it saved my vacation because I was able to backup all my vacation photos to it. (Memory card went bad the last day of the cruise!) So I'll never regret purchasing the original.

But if you're not in a hurry, I say wait, also. You can compare the 2 Gens, and if the new bells & whistles are something you want, go for it! If they aren't, then you'll probably be able to get a Gen 1 iPad for a whole lot less than you'd pay for it today.

Sayhello

I'm waiting till iPad 2.0. Not that I think there's anything wrong with the current version. I just am not in a hurry to get one so I'll wait.

I'm expecting that April will be when the new ones show up too.

Ditto to this! And since I have a birthday in April, I'm really hoping this timetable turns out to be accurate.

The other thing about waiting is that you might be able to get a better deal on the current version right before the new one is released.
