Just read on another forum that Alitalia look to be the next airline in trouble, following XL's demise, so thought I'd pass it on just in case anyone's booked or looking to book with them. :headache:

Indeed they are - they're apparently struggling for money for fuel at the moment.

Alitalia has not doing good for a long time now, last year i booked an Alitalia flight - because it was the cheaper option from Bologna - i was told off by some friends and then kept worring all the time something bad could happened. I discovered in the last days then anyway our flight was performed by Air France and so there was no reason to worry :rolleyes1
This year i have avoided carefully to book with Alitalia, voices about it collapsing have been on and on all year long.
Today's news says the government has proposed them an agreement with less working hours and then lower salaries but this doesnt make the pilots happy of course and from tomorrow some of the workers could go home with redundancy payments.

I used to fly with Alitalia from London to Skopje (Macedonia) via Milan a few times. When I started using the airline it was good but 2 years ago my flight from London was delayed which meant that we missed the connecting flight etc etc. The staff was horrible to us and the story just goes on and on...

I've also heard they were in trouble a long time ago so this really came as no surprise...

As long as easyjet stay afloat for the next 20 days.............

I wonder about Easyjet too Torsie (it's who we are flying with in two weeks time). I can't see how they can make a profit in this economic climate :confused3

My friend works for Easyjet, and they make all their money on the extras - drinks, food, hold luggage etc......

Atalia and XL airways have both been rumoured to financial problems for a while (Atalia has been losing money for years and is being proped up by the Italian government). I wouldnt worry, and if you did get stuck over there it means a long holiday :rotfl: :rotfl:

Lol, thanks.

Easyjet will have made a lot of money since XLs collpase - charged me £700 for flights to tenerife on friday morning, and when I looked in the evening all the flights had sold out!!!

We go on tuesday, so as long as I get there and back :)

I know, its rubbish, look on the brightside your still going!! BA cancelled my return flight from Orlando two weeks before we went and I was so worried! They moved our tickets to the next day though and paid for an extra night in Pop Century and paid for our meals(plus I got money off vouchers off the next flight when I got home) so it all worked out even better :rotfl:

Oh and I've booked to come home with Easyjet in Dec from DLRP.

The Italian papers have been reporting news about Ryanair lately saying their planes fly with the lowest limit of fuel possible, so low they could hardly face a five minutes emergency if -for eg. - the landing should be somehow delayed.
I hope that's not the truth :scared1:

About Alitalia: latest news says they may sign a contract for non flying workers tonight but they still have to find an agreement about the pilots' salaries.
Mind you they are told to have salaries three times higher than other companies, plus all the staff wear designer suits and shoes and bags and that's the way they have been losing money all through the years.

I refuse to fly Ryanair unless I have no choice - I really don't agree with the ethics of the company.

As I said on another thread - I've thought XL were in trouble as much as 3 years ago when we flew with part of their company (which went bust on our holiday and as a result we had to fly back with another part of their company)...

Unfortunately, it's the economic times and I don't think it's going to get better for some time yet :scared:

hope bmi baby are ok we fly to dlp with them in 7 days. Feel sorry for all the people who have been affected by all these airlines going bust.
