Help! :confused3

My DD who is 22 months old hasn't napped in almost a week, and she is a train wreck. Right now she is in her crib talking away.

She is usually a solid napper, 1-2 hours a day, just one afternoon nap. My ILs were here last weekend, so naps went out the door then.

Any advice or suggestions for getting her back on track? Her pediatrician says to keep her in the crib at her normal nap time. I tried to put her in my bed to sleep, but she just got out of it and walked downstairs!

The lack of naps has been causing her to go to bed about an hour earlier than she had been (she sleeps 12 hours a night). While she sleeps great at night, without her nap she has been soooo cranky.

Thanks!

Our DD did the same exact thing around 22mos. She didn't nap for a week or so, but I kept putting her down at the regular time. Then I moved the nap time forward one hour (1pm instead of 12pm), and that did the trick. Now she naps again. I don't let her nap past 3pm so as not to interfere with bedtime.

Try putting her down later and see if that works. It might take a couple of days.

My dd tried doing that for a while it was a nightmare but just a phase. I just kept putting her down at her normal time and after a few days she started napping again. I also made sure to keep her up until her normal bedtime. It was a rough few days for me with the crankiness!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

It's just good to hear that others have been there, done that.

:goodvibes

Both my boys went through phases like this. I think the key is to keep up the routine, but also change something up a little...as a PP suggested, moving nap time one hour or changing the pre-nap routine, etc. Sometimes that slight change with an otherwise steady routine gets things back in place again.

Keep at it. It is probably just a phase. Even if she is not sleeping every day, she should be able to learn that she has to have quiet rest time in her crib/bed. My two year old is talking in her crib right now, I wish she was sleeping, but at least she is being relatively quiet in there. She goes back and forth- sleeps some days, not others. My 5 year old still has a "nap" where she plays quietly in her room every afternoon. I would go insane without that time!

My 3 yr old stopped napping for awhile at around 20 months and this worked for him. We moved his nap time 1 hour and he slept like a charm. At this point, he's given up naps, but he still goes down for a rest at the same time his brother is napping. It gives him a chance to unwind and it gives me a chance to get some work done and be refreshed for the afternoon madness! I would also try and get her to stay up until her normal bedtime; I know it might be a bear, but it will probably help get her back on track.

Sorry, no advice. That is about the time Ds stopped taking naps. We tried changing the time etc. I kept forcing it and he eventually would fall asleep out of boredom, I guess, and would end up staying up until 1a.m. or 2a.m. even after a short 1 hour nap so, we gave up. I upped his bedtime then from 9pm (I know late, but I don't work outside the home) to 8pm just to get some mommy sanity time. Maybe that is an option?

GL!

All three of my kids had given up their naps by the time they were 2. My oldest stopped napping at 18 months.

Can't help

My oldest stopped taking naps at 16 months (She's now 4)
My youngest has pretty much stopped napping about a month ago (23 months old now).

All three of my kids stopped napping between 23-27 months. It made ME cranky every time for a month or so LOL I gave up fighting it and just moved bedtime earlier (7:30). I did enforce a "quiet time" in the afternoon but I didn't put them into bed.

dang.. im 34 and still love to nap..
my 6 year old.. he hasnt naped since he was 3.. but its something he did.. he would go watch tv instead of naps..
i still have not put a tv in his room. just a radio and books :lovestruc

Both my kids stopped everyday napping around age 2

We tried quiet time in front of the tv watching a movie. Depending on the day, one would sleep, both would sleep or neither would sleep.

If they had a nap, some nights it would be 11, 12, or 1 am until they went to sleep,

I quit fighting about it.

We now just go non stop from morning to night.

Good Luck getting her back on schedule.

Ack!! I have a 22 month old DS also and if he stopped napping I'd be a very unhappy momma!! I'd say keep trying and keep her in her crib for an hour. If after a week or so she still isn't napping I'd still declare a quiet time where she goes into her crib and reads, listens to music, or plays quietly. good luck and kup!

Sorry, no advice here. Every child is different. DS18 napped daily until he was 5 years old. DD8 hasn't napped since she was 13 months old (believe me, I tried EVERYTHING back then). It was quite the sad time for me; I had to give up napping then too!! :rotfl:

Thanks again everyone. I am going to try to get her back to napping, but I won't fight it if she's just done with naps. My DD4 stopped napping around 26-27 months, so I knew this was coming, I just didn't think so soon.

I appreciate the advice about quiet time. My DD4 likes to watch a movie in the afternoon, she lays on the couch and zones out in lieu of a nap. Or she has quiet time in her room w/books and her toys.
